Still with family and still pretty busy, but I've managed to squeeze in some gaming here and there. I resumed the Secret of Mana remake on Vita, and now I'm in the Pure Land. There's not much left, but my progress is gonna slow to a crawl here because I'm grinding enemies in Pure Land for their rare drops, since Pure Land is inaccessible after completed and the enemies don't show up elsewhere. I'm hoping to platinum the game with this file.

I also started playing The Jungle Book on SNES. I prefer Capcom's Disney games over Virgin's, but it's not too bad. Probably the worst thing about it is that there isn't even passwords, let alone a battery. It'd be more acceptable for an earlier release, but by mid 1994, practically every new SNES release had one or the other. I think there is a code for a stage select, though, so I may start using that if I get sick of repeating the early stages.

I'm playing Resident Evil 7. What's weird is that I didn't remember the game was in first person view until just now when thinking about something to say about it. That says a lot for the smooth transition to a different perspective, the fact I didn't even notice much.

It's pretty awesome, but I honestly had a very rough start. The game has no manual and no tutorial (that I recall). Not a good decision considering how it's completely different from previous Resident Evil games.

I also played one game of Sine Mora EX. I have it for the XBOX ONE, but I wish that I purchased it for the Switch, as I only have three Switch games and it really lends itself to handheld play.

I'll probably go back to Drakengard and complete it soon, but I'm not looking forward to it. I wanted to go back and experience the Drakengard series since I'm such a huge fan of the Nier games. The first Drakengard game was just SUCH a boring slog, and which such terrible controls.

My son wanted to play a co-op game, but didn't want to continue with Secret of Mana. Diablo on PS1 came to mind, so we fired that up. I put a lot of time into Diablo back in the day on PC. The PS1 port is admirable, but just doesn't cut it. So I got the PC version going on two Win10 machines. Then I thought, hey, why not Hellfire, too, I sure like fast town walk. Which led to some unofficial patches, etc, and all the way to the full blown The Hell HD mod. So that's what I'm playing. Doubt I'll get sucked in beyond a single playthrough. May get me to try Diablo III again, though. I was excited for that but only ever played 1 or 2 maps.

I keep getting Diablo PC discs at flea markets opened used...Some have installation codes-or whatever that long sticker code is in the cases lol.. ,does these games still need these codes to be used ,or free online somewhere..The reason why I ask is I get them cheap but if not reusable maybe I should not pick them up at all..

I think you are likely talking about Diablo II. Diablo 1 did not have a Battlenet code. Now, for D2 you can register it on Battlenet using that code, and I think then even download it to play easily on Windows 10. I'm assuming that requires that the code isn't used, though. This is just what I've picked up while trying to get D1 working. I haven't actually logged into battlenet in years; my account has likely been deleted by now.

I'm back home, and now I'm focused on tying up some of my gaming loose ends, since I've got too many games I haven't finished where I'm close to the end. I got one of the three missable rare drops in Secret of Mana on Vita, and I did some decent magic grinding in the process. I also got back into Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC. I finished Saito's route, got a couple more bad endings, cleared the OT3 route, haha (though I think there may be a longer version of it I haven't done?), and got all three progress percentages over 80%.

Aussie2B

I was right, there seems to be a lot more OT3 content in Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC. I'm not sure if I'm on an extended path to a bad ending or what. The previous ending wasn't regarded as a bad ending. Maybe there're just alternate endings. On that note, I don't know if there are alternate endings for Miki and Saito's individual routes either. I get the feeling that everything in this game is determined just by which branches you pick, rather than keeping a hidden affection value, but who knows. Anyway, I also got back into Harvest Moon 64 on N64. I'm about halfway through the final season, so there really isn't much left. I don't think there's much of value I can accomplish before the ending, seeing as there are a bunch of things you have to do earlier in the game or you lose your chance, so I just gotta hammer through the remaining days.

I was right, the longer OT3 path in Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome for PC led to a bad ending, even though the response that led to the shorter one seemed like it was going to trigger a bad ending. I'm still wondering where the heck a few of the other bad endings occur, considering I've seemed to try nearly every possible option at this point, minus the unlocked side stories. There's even a CG in the prologue movie I've never come across, which is weird, since usually CGs shown in trailers show up early and are easy to get.

As for Harvest Moon 64, I think I'm on Day 20 of the third spring? I've been using a wiki to find more recipes, since I've got some of practically every crop growing in my greenhouse. But there's no way I'll collect them all, considering a few people have already left the village permanently and others respond to items you can only forage from the mountains during summer, fall, or winter.

I also played a tiny bit of online multiplayer in Koi-Koi Japan on Steam.

As I posted in the Beaten in 2018 topic, I beat Harvest Moon 64 a while ago, and since then, I've barely played anything because I've been so busy. But now I'm caught up on work and getting back to a number of games. Last night I started up The Jungle Book via SNES emulation and played from stage 1 to stage 7 just to refresh my memory of the game. I got my actual SNES set up, so I'll get back to playing the real deal soon. On my Vita, I got one more of the Pure Land rare drops in Secret of Mana, so it shouldn't be long before I can leave the area. And I got back to Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC and started the after stories. I'm really wondering where the heck around 15% of the game is still hiding.

Aussie2B
07-10-2018, 11:01 AM
In Secret of Mana on Vita, I got all three drops I needed from Pure Land and finished the area. Then I tediously landed at each location one by one with Flammie until I got the trophy for landing everywhere with Flammie. Now I'm finally ready to head into the final area.

I'm surprised at just how long the after stories in Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC are. It's a little annoying that I can't save in them, but the game does keep track of what's been read or not, so I can just exit and use the skip feature to quickly get back to where I left off. I also now understand why some of my CG sets were incomplete, but it's kinda cheap how the after stories reuse CGs from the main game, minus some slight variants exclusive to the after stories. Anyway, Miki's percentage is over 90% now, with Saito and the main story closing in on 90%.

I hit the Gateway Arcade ,the same guy from last season playing the 60-1 multicade ..I think he goes there daily..
Both pinball machine, the walking dead and iron man in terrible condition not playing right with issues."SAD"

boardwalk mall is making a new arcade that looks again to be just more ticket redemption ..I didn't go in but took pictures as they had a chain up and no one was in there except workings setting stuff up.Still if this place has any older games then I will go there..
Now with 'Remember When Pinball Palace & Retro Arcade" not being there anymore I'm looking for places down the shore/boardwalk with old games especially drivers ..

I took a poke over to find RANDYLAND and Remember When Pinball Palace & Retro Arcades new location Not opened yet...

Then we went to Keansburg that has better arcades then Wildwood ,I had more enjoyment there in a few hours then for days in wildwood..

Started playing Diablo 3 the yesterday. I was surprised to find that my battle.net account still exists, as well as the 3 D3 characters I made. I only played one of them for about 15 hours apparently. I don't remember the game at all, in fact, I think I misremember it, because I thought you wound up in a desert town pretty quickly, and that doesn't seem to be the case now? This all spawned from playing co-op D1 with my son (really a D1 mod). Fun so far, but I doubt I'll put the 100s of hours in it that I did in D2.

I've been focusing on finishing off Secret of Mana on Vita. I've been in the Mana Fortress a good while now. Some of the rare drops were a huge pain, but now all I need is one last Axe Orb. I also finished grinding all my magic up to level 8. Hopefully I won't have to grind with the weapons. I assume the trophy relates to just having all the orbs and having the weapons forged to their max level, rather than the individual weapon levels each character has. I also still have a backlog of inn cutscenes I'm slowly working my way through, since I honestly didn't need to rest often through much of the game, seeing as characters have their HP and MP restored upon leveling up.

I'm still playing Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC too, though. I'm going through Miki's after stories, so his percentage is over 95% now, but the other two haven't changed much.

Like I posted in the Beaten in 2018 topic, I finished off Secret of Mana, getting my second ever platinum trophy, and then I started and finished Home on my Vita as well. After beating Home, I ran through the game again and got all of its trophies too, but like some other indies I've played, it doesn't have a platinum trophy to begin with. It's pretty hilarious how you can walk past like 90% of the game. I bet my replay didn't take more than maybe 15 minutes. Literally all you have to do to beat the game, besides walk to the destination, is press a switch to unlock a door, solve a "puzzle" that simply involves turning off a number of valves, solve a similar "puzzle" by turning on a few switches (or picking up a keycard for an alternate route), and then picking up 4 or 5 other required items. That's it. Everything else is just there to flesh out the story. Anyway, I also tried out a couple recent Vita acquisitions: Army Corps of Hell and Sly Cooper Collection. The former is basically Pikmin if it were a lot shallower gameplay-wise and had an aesthetic that's less appealing in every way. The latter is a nice pickup, since I never bought any of the Sly games for PS2. The only bummer is that the third game isn't on the card, and the download code already expired a couple years ago. It's basically a "collection" of only two games.

Besides Vita, I got a spare top loader I plan to sell, so I tested out a few NES games I plan to sell along with it. I think I'll also pull out a couple Famicom games I haven't tried since acquiring. It'd be easier to just play them on this top loader than the one I'm keeping, which is practically like new and packed up in its box. I got a couple original NES models, which is what we do most of our NES gaming on, but my converter has never worked well with those (it doesn't even have a ribbon to pull the thing out).

It's been nice to have the time lately to get through a whole stack of games that have been waiting to be cleaned and tested for upwards of probably a couple years. I briefly played the Famicom games Kinnikuman: Muscle Tag Match and Mississippi Satsujin Jiken. Then I hooked up my Japanese PS2 and tried out my Tail Concerto demo, Ore no Ryouri, Gokujou Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack, and Burger Burger. I couldn't actually play Parodius since it wasn't recognizing all my button presses for some reason. I don't know if that Dual Shock 2 needs a cleaning or if there's some compatibility issue. The game loaded up fine, though, so I'll figure that out another day. I have no shortage of PS1 Dual Shocks and non-analog controllers I could use with it in the future. I got pretty into Ore no Ryouri once I started figuring out how to properly prepare each food and drink. I could see myself playing through the whole game now if I weren't already in the middle of a bunch of games. After that, I set up my Genesis 3. I know the model gets a bad rap, but now that I own a Mega Drive game, it's quite handy to have a Genesis I can pop Mega Drive games into without any modification and play without issue unless the game has regional lockout built into the cart. So I played the Japanese version of Junction, and then I tried out a couple US games: Stimpy's Invention and Terminator 2. Now the only games I have left to clean, test, and shelve are three PC-FX games, but I'm not even going to worry about those until I organize the whole closet that my PC-FX is buried in right now.

Though I put my Japanese PS2 away, I left the cables in place and swapped in my PS1. I pulled out Ridge Racer Type 4 and the NeGcon just for fun and briefly toyed around with that. I don't use a lot of specialty controllers, but I've always loved that one. Then I popped in Tail Concerto. It's one of my favorite games, and I've been meaning to give it another replay for a while now. I think the last time I replayed it was just before Solatorobo came out in Japan? And that was plenty long ago at this point (long ago enough that I should be thinking about replaying Solatorobo too, but it's a significantly longer game, which makes me less inclined to replay, even with as much as I love it). I think I have about 3 hours on the clock, and I'm up to the secret base, which is the hardest area to complete outside of the final area. Though, they're challenging in different ways because the final area is best completed by being very patient and taking it slow, while this area has a time limit that forces you to rush. But the game isn't particularly difficult overall, and I can usually get through it without losing a single life at this point (though I still like to collect all the 1-up whistles). So I should have the game beat in a couple more hours or so (always takes me around 5).

I am still playing Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on PC, though. I'm working on Saito's after stories now. I'm not sure if his percentage is over 90% yet, but the main story's is, and Miki is over 95%.

I finally finished off Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome for PC 100%. I finished the after stories and found two more bad endings on my own (by focusing wholly on one character until the point that seems to lock you in on a route and siding with the other guy then), but at 99% with Saito and 98% on the other two and three more bad endings left, I caved and looked up how to get them. One of them requires running at every opportunity possible, but I could've sworn running the first time led directly to a bad ending before. Maybe it's only on the second go that the new options appear. The other two endings come from focusing on a character minus when you decide if the clothes or filming location needs work, and the deviation doesn't come until very close to the end. What's weird is that Miki's felt like a "normal" ending, since it was still fairly upbeat and romantic, while Saito's just felt like a regular bad ending. Well, anyway, I'm a little sad to be totally done with it, but now I can finally get to something else for my during-breakfast PC visual novel playing.

I played some more Jungle Book on SNES, finally beating the 7th stage after learning the trick to King Louie. However, the 8th stage is super annoying and took a lot of practice and trial and error, only to discover I gotta fight King Louie again, except without any tricks this time. The sloppy, imprecise controls are really getting aggravating.

Lastly, I swapped my old memory card back into my Vita and started up Code: Realize again for the first time since 2015. I'd like to tell myself it's in preparation of the second fandisc coming out in English, but realistically, I don't see myself not only finishing this 100% but also the first fandisc by then. But I do really like this first game and want to get through all three eventually.

As I said in the Beaten in 2018 topic, I finally beat The Jungle Book on SNES, so that's another one knocked out. I'll probably start up another SNES game soon.

Since I got Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome finished off, I returned to Nightshade on PC for the first time in over a year, and it's a nice change of pace playing a visual novel with a more serious tone, with a more interesting overarching plot, and much better art. I barely touched Nightshade when it first came out, only clearing the prologue before a bunch of other visual novels came out and took my attention away from it. I'm on Chapter 2 now, and the game seems to be setting up the introduction of the last remaining love interest who has yet to make an appearance. Also, I gotta say, whenever Goemon Ishikawa is on screen, or when they're talking about him, I can't help but think of Konami's Goemon series, which makes things a little awkward considering Goemon is a flirty bishounen in this game, haha.

Indeed, my condolences, Daryll.

I'm still playing Nightshade on PC, and I'm currently on Chapter 3. I wasn't targeting anyone in particular, but I ended up on Choujirou's route.

I also started something of an experiment by resuming my file in Breath of Fire on my GBA SP. It had been over four years since I dropped it, and I don't think I've ever tried to resume a game in the middle after that long of a hiatus, let alone an RPG. I was playing it during a tumultuous time in my life, so that was a big factor in why I stopped playing. It was also starting to overstay its welcome with how long it was and the endless random battles. I had remembered all this time that I stopped when I needed to get a tonic to cure Nina's amnesia, but making the tonic involved finding four ingredients. I only had one already and no idea where to find the others. It was effectively a worldwide scavenger hunt, without the benefit of an airship. The clues the game gives are barely helpful at all, and the abbreviated item names make it that much more difficult (how am I supposed to know that a "P. Fish" is a poisonous fish or that a "C. Nut" is a coconut?) Of course, picking the game up after four years doesn't help either, as I've pretty well forgotten what's where and what any NPC has ever said. I have the issue of Nintendo Power that has a decent world map, though (better than the unlabeled in-game map), and I fully admit to using a FAQ pretty liberally. I got the items I needed, recovered Nina, and then used her new flying ability to collect a lot of optional stuff on the world map, though this will surely not be a "perfect file". Since I stopped playing near the end of the game, I don't think I'll have too much trouble doing the last few things to finish it off. It'll be nice if I can finally check this off as beaten.

I beat Breath of Fire on GBA, getting both the good and bad endings (turns out the dragon form required for the good ending was greyed out not because I missed my chance to use it the first time but because it counts as fusing with the entire party, thus Karn can't already be fused with anybody). I was about to put my GBA SP away after that, but then I came down with a cold (I can't even remember the last time I got sick in August) and wanted something to play on my GBA while resting in bed. It would've been a good time to start up Final Fantasy Legend III, but considering I just polished off an RPG, even if most of my playing of it was years ago, I wanted something with more action. Since it was within easy reach, I decided to start up Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. I've cleared 25% of it so far, and it's been an interesting experience. I'm used to Kirby games being pretty straightforward, but this is a lot like a Metroid game with the nonlinear exploration. The map is a bit hard to make sense of, so I find myself wandering a lot. And even though I looked up the manual online and read through it, I'm still struggling to figure out which powers break through different types of blocks and how to get the AI-controlled Kirby clones to do what I want. I'm having fun with it, though, and it's nice to play through a Kirby for the first time since, I dunno, several years ago when I played Kirby 64?

I'm still playing Nightshade on PC too, and I'm up to Chapter 6 in Choujirou's route. I have no idea how many chapters a route has in this game, but it seems like the plot is really starting to pick up. Not that it wasn't already interesting before this.

My progress in Nightshade on PC has slowed, so even though I've played it more, I'm still in Chapter 6 of Choujirou's route.

I've mostly just been focusing on Kirby & the Amazing Mirror on my GBA SP. I'm up to 90%, and my progress here has slowed too because it's pretty time-consuming chasing down the last few treasures and rooms I've missed. What's frustrating is that the maps you're shown before you find the actual maps for each area are pretty useless, yet the actual maps are sometimes ridiculously well hidden themselves. Like, imagine doing a Zelda dungeon and the very last thing you find in it is the map, after you've already been to every room and found all the other treasures. Kinda defeats the purpose of a map, outside of confirming "Yep, got everything". Of the nine areas, there are three where it basically went like that for me. I still haven't figured out how to get the map in one of them, even after checking an online map telling me what room it's in. I also wish the treasures were a little more interesting. There are maps, life bar increases, paint to change Kirby's color, and music/effects for the sound test. That's it, minus the generic treasures of lives and food. This game is clearly based on The Great Cave Offensive in Kirby Super Star, which I'd probably say is my favorite of the games in Kirby Super Star, and I'll give this game credit for the treasures actually serving a practical use. But I liked how each treasure in The Great Cave Offensive was unique, and a lot were fun references to other Nintendo games. It's not as exciting here when it's like "Oh, another can of paint I'm not going to bother using anyway".

I finished off Kirby & the Amazing Mirror on my GBA SP, doing everything except clearing the boss rush mode, but I still wanted something on a handheld to play. I don't feel like switching back to my primary memory card for my Vita just yet, and since I mainly want to use this small card for digital PS1/PSP games, I decided to finally start The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. I normally have no interest in PSOne Classic releases because I already have a big PS1 collection, and I always prefer to own a game physically when possible. But PS1 copies of Tron Bonne are so ridiculously expensive that I settled for the PSOne Classic release. Right away, I feel like I don't particularly like playing PS1 games on Vita. I have no problem playing digital PSP games on my Vita, since it's a similar form factor, but I feel like a game designed for a Dual Shock controller just doesn't work on Vita. Using the touchscreens for R2/L2 is meh at best, and the controls all around just never feel natural to me and end up making my hands hurt after a bit. So it's a bit of a shame that my experience with this game is a little gimped, but I'll still gladly put up with this versus spending $200 on a PS1 copy. I'm also a bit perplexed by the game itself. I don't even know what genre I'd say it falls in. It kind of feels like a hodgepodge of mini-games or something. Time on the ship feels like a Servbot-raising simulation, and I've so far done timed missions somewhat similar to the action in Mega Man Legends and others that are kind of like Sokoban puzzles. But all that aside, I'm really enjoying spending time in this world with these characters again. It also makes me wonder what it'd be like if Tail Concerto got a similar game from the perspective of the Black Cats Gang.

As for Nightshade on PC, I'm still chipping away at it, now on Chapter 7 in Choujirou's route.

I've barely had time for gaming this past month. I haven't touched Nightshade on PC since clearing Choujirou's route, not even to get his other ending (at least I assume there's an alternate ending). I'm squeezing in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita when I can. I expected it to be a quick one, but with only sporadic short bursts of playing, it's getting stretched out. I've cleared all of the puzzle levels and two each of the action and RPG stages, but I've yet to touch the free mode. Sometimes I haven't had time for a stage, so I'd just turn it on for some servbot training. I very briefly tried out Punch Line on Vita, and I did the same with Wave Race and Densetsu no Starfy 2 on my Game Boy Advance SP. I think that about covers everything I've played since early September.

Still little time for gaming, but I did clear a tiny bit more in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita. I finished the third RPG stage, and with that, I also hit one million zenny and got a fairly lengthy cutscene (for this game, at least). I also tried out a handful of Limited Run Games releases that finally arrived: Super Hydorah, Va-11 Hall-A, Xenon Valkyrie+, and 2064: Read Only Memories. I still haven't tested most of the imports I've picked up recently, but I did pop in Phantasy Star Nova.

I hate to say it, but I'm starting to come to the conclusion that The Misadventures of Tron Bonne is pretty overrated. I don't think it would get nearly as much praise if it weren't rare and expensive on PS1 and if it weren't a part of the Mega Man Legends sub-series. I love both Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2, and I had been looking forward to this spin-off for a long time, saving it for when I really wanted to treat myself. I wasn't expecting it to play like the main games, but I was hoping to enjoy it on a similar level. One of the things I love about the MML games is the world and its characters, with Tron Bonne and her servbots being among my favorites. And I am enjoying the graphics, story, and voice acting of this game, but gameplay-wise, it's a jack of all trades, doing nothing that well. Some games can combines multiple modes that aren't exceptional and end up being greater than the sum of their parts, like ActRaiser, but it ain't working here.

I think the worst thing about the game is how it's so piss-poor at explaining anything. I've read the manual, cleared the opening tutorial, pressed O to see menu descriptions, appraised items, everything the game has to offer, and the whole game has still basically been a matter of doing things blindly, trying to figure out how and why I'm supposed to do things. Scouting still feels random, the first training game is basically impossible until you figure out you can take out two targets at a time, and the second training game is practically impossible on the highest difficulty level unless you repeatedly pause to "cheat". The action stages aren't clear about what can and can't be destroyed, and it's annoying how some enemies just keep regenerating endlessly, while also sometimes moving so fast and/or being so high up that you just have to tediously run and spin the camera wildly to avoid taking hits and hope you land a hit of your own now and then. The character interaction in the RPG stages was fun, but they were otherwise bland and plodding. And I hate how they're in first-person. And the puzzles stages, ugh. I've had enough of Sokoban-style gameplay in Boxxle, and at least Boxxle had the decency to save your progress after each level. You gotta clear three in a row here, with each getting harder than the last. When a new area opened up with more puzzles, I tried to tackle the first set, thinking it'd be quick at level 1, but after around an hour of playing, I had to just quit and go to bed, throwing away all the time I spent figuring out and solving the first two in the set. I didn't even know you could use the Beacon Bomb in the puzzle stages until I started this set. The servbot was basically useless in the first puzzle area. So I adjusted to using the forklift to take the crates of goods, but on the third puzzle of the set, I was just going nuts with it, saying "this is impossible" to myself as I tried over and over. And after I skimmed an FAQ, I think the way I was trying to do it was impossible. It turns out you can use the Beacon Bomb even while holding a crate yourself. I know some would just blame me for not experimenting more, but geez, is it too much to ask for this game to explain anything important? There's even a "hints" option in the puzzle stages, which would be the perfect time to point out stuff like that, but instead it gives completely worthless, obvious info (telling me to lift 4 steel crates and 1 wooden box when I already know I get only 5 lifts, and wooden boxes are always there for a reason). Anyway, given that I have precious little gaming time lately, it was a pretty damn frustrating experience. It felt like a total waste, between the lack of making any progress in the game and the repeated attempts very quickly becoming a chore that wasn't any fun. I don't mind a challenge, but I don't want challenge to come from bad design or inadequate teaching of a game's mechanics. I really expected better of this game, but the whole thing feels half-baked.

Still chipping away at The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita. I suspect I'm nearly at the end now. I've hit over two million zenny, so I can pay back the interest. A new option opened up in my menu on the ship, and the strategist Servbot is talking as if I've got the final battle ahead of me. I'm gonna hold off on that, since I still have one last set of puzzles to do, and I still haven't even touched the Free mode. Plus I still have more Servbot training to do, as tedious as it may be.

I started the Free stage in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita, and this mission is pretty fun. It's like a combination of the RPG stages and action stages. It feels like one big Mega Man Legends dungeon, albeit with a bigger, clunkier player character. I'm finding a whole bunch of unique items, so I've been able to improve the robot. I suspect these ruins aren't going to last me very long, though. I explored everything accessible without the bazooka first, then went back in and explored as much as a I could before my Vita ran out of juice. It might only take one more trip in. I also trained all my Servbots such that the only ones whose attack meters aren't maxed are the ones with the longest meters. The training game difficulty levels basically go from easy, to moderately tough, to insane, so I don't look forward to trying to beat the games on the hardest difficulty. I'm trying to use Attack Cubes as much as possible to skip that.

I finished the Nakkai Ruins in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita. Though, I ended up looking up how to beat the boss because I was fighting it forever without doing any damage and blowing through E. Tanks. Yet another instance where the game gives you no hints whatsoever about what to do, so you're expected to just play blindly and figure things out by chance. I had been targeting everywhere with the Beacon Bomb, but I hadn't tried spamming it toward the nostrils. Anyway, I made another trip in because I missed the Ancient Pistol, but now I think I'm done with that dungeon, outside of possibly going in and out to grind for items via Scouting. I also did speed training until only the Servbots with the largest bars aren't maxed out. Now all that's left before the final part is the last set of annoying puzzles and deciding on how I want to max out the remaining Servbots.

As I said in the Beaten in 2018 topic, I finished The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita, so now I'm not quite sure what to get into next, especially when I've got all these repair projects going on too. I considered Musynx on Vita, since I received that not long ago from Limited Run Games, and it's supposedly pretty short (to platinum, I guess). But I'd still consider myself a relative newbie to rhythm games, and this game's idea of "easy" is bonkers to me. I think I'm gonna need some more experience with this genre under my belt before I can get into this game seriously. So instead I just played a little more Code: Realize.

I'm still in between games, while I have my Colecovision's guts sprawled out all over the place, and I'm doing a lot of reorganizing of my game stuff too. I played some more Code: Realize on my Vita and cleared the sixth chapter. I'm admittedly a little lost, though, since I did the majority of my playing of this back in like 2015. I also tried out Death Mark. The prologue was intriguing, but I think I'll save it for a later day.

Basically everything from my prior post is still going on, so I'm still playing Code: Realize on my Vita too. I finished the seventh chapter, which I believe places me now in the final common route chapter. I'm not sure who the protagonist will get paired with, but I'm guessing it'll be Impey. I also hooked up my Wii so I could finally try out Wave Race: Blue Storm, which I received way back in August for my birthday. I think I'll keep the Wii hooked up for now. Maybe I'll play through one of our WiiWare games. I know once the Wii Shop Channel is gone, I'll permanently lose access to the manuals for those games.

I've been playing a good amount of stuff lately for feeling like I'm not really playing anything. I'm just not invested in anything at the moment, so my gaming has basically come in the form of briefly trying out new buys and multiplayer gaming with family. What I want to start really digging into is London Detective Mysteria on my Vita, but so far, I've only put like half an hour into it. I've popped in and out a bunch of other Vita games: Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, Soul Sacrifice, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend, Zero Escape: The Nonary Games, Gunhouse, Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Rayman Origins, Salt & Sanctuary, and probably some others. A number of my Limited Run Games orders going months back have been coming in recently. And I've been playing some Switch games with my family: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Party.

I'm hoping I can squeeze in at least one more beaten game before the year is over. Ideally, I'd like to clear at least 15 a year, but I'd settle for 12, to have an average of one a month. But I'm sitting at 11 right now. I looked back at my lists from previous years and noticed that it's actually very common for me to not beat anything in December or to have few games finished in the last 2-3 months of the year. I guess I've been underestimating how busy this time of year tends to be and how it affects my gaming.

Well, it's the last day of the year, and it's not looking too hopeful that I'll beat another game before midnight. I did, however, start playing Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth on my Wii today, so who knows. But I do have other things to do today, on top of New Years celebrations, so I'm not holding my breath. At the very least, maybe I can start 2019 with a game beaten shortly after the year begins. I'm up to the fourth stage so far, on the default settings. I'm not the only one who uses this Wii, so Classic mode is already unlocked in the game, which I was tempted to use, but I figure I should go for the standard experience my first time through. I wish the game had passwords or saves, but I guess lacking both is true to the original (not that much is; this is more a reimagining of the Game Boy game than a remake, similar to how Super Castlevania IV retells the story of the first Castlevania but is otherwise an entirely new game). The game does keep track of which stages you've cleared on each difficulty for its stage select option, but it's kind of a secret thing, so it feels a bit like a cheat. I also tried out A Boy and His Blob and Donkey Kong Country Returns, which were both fun, but I don't want to get invested in any more lengthy games right now.

I gotta say, it was a bit of an ordeal getting our Wii online again. I guess the last time we had it online was before we changed our internet setup, and the Wii's outdated technology just doesn't want to play nice with our wifi. But eventually I got the system updated and regained access to the Wii Shop Channel (as brief as this access will be before it's shut down). I checked to make sure all our VC and Wiiware games were downloaded and to see if we had any points to use up. I guess Nintendo's getting a couple bucks out of us for nothing, since I don't think there's anything cheap enough to use my last 200 points on. I also read the Castlevania manual on there. It was a real boneheaded move to store Wiiware manuals on the Wii Shop Channel. Soon, even if you've bought and installed Wiiware games, you won't be able to access the manuals for them anymore.

Beyond my Wii shenanigans, I've played a tiny bit more of London Detective Mysteria on my Vita, but I still haven't even cleared the prologue. I also tried out Tokyo Xanadu. I've heard it described as Persona with Ys gameplay, and it definitely does feel like a Falcom take on Persona.

The topic title only says 2017 and 2018, but I assume we're going to continue using this topic for 2019.

Since I couldn't get Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth on Wii beaten within 2018, I'm taking it slower now. I've gotten up to the fifth stage, but I've been repeating the earlier stages some to try alternate routes. I really wish this game was like Rondo of Blood and actually kept track of which areas you've visited.

As for London Detective Mysteria on Vita, I'm out of the prologue at least now.

And I'm still playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party on Switch with family.

I JUst started playing Dragon's Crown on Vita. Got past the tutorial part during a break at work. It's got some potential as I was not a fan of the PS3 version.

On New Year's Eve I played Namco Museum DS, which was handed to me by my fifth oldest as we have a Galaga competition going on. He's, to put it as lovingly as possible, a "sore player". He thinks he's God's gift to video games as he can beat others at certain games and is VERY full of himself and condescending when you lose. "That's ok...it'll just take more practice for you," is a favorite phrase. However when he loses...he gets a little ugly and probably won't play that game for a while. He rage quit a game of checkers that day.

Anyway, his high score was in the 60k range, so I had my work cut out. On top of that, I was playing with a handicap with one of my step daughters curled up next to me in the recliner, my son on the other side playing with my ear and others huddled around behind me. As I played, the chair would start to rotate or recline thanks to the children. In the end, I racked up a score of 86K I think...(thought it was 82K but I remember I was only a few thousand away from wiping out the high score of 90-some-thousand). He was not thrilled, but quietly shut off his DS and walked away.

I traded in a Wii a friend gave me as they didn't want it, but I have 3 already including the Wii U. I picked up a DSi XL for an even swap at a local game store so I can see these games better. Should be interesting to see the scores I get now.

As I said in the other thread, just started Baldur's Gate part 2 on ps2 with my son. Pretty fun so far, and they definitely smoothed some things out from part 1.

I'm also playing The Last of Us on ps3. Having lots of fun. Trying real hard to just play, but I like to be perfect at stealth in games like this, so I sometimes restart encounters even though I don't need to. I've also run into strange behavior a couple times, most recently was the "fire up the generator and everything goes to shit" part. First time I wasn't ready for and died. Second time I had a plan, based on the first time, but ran smack into the bloater in a completely different place from the first time. Last time I just jogged out of the area without seeing a single baddie, same route as the second try. Go figure.

Crystal Caves by Apogee through Dos Box. I finished Secret Agent ages ago (very similair game) but only did the first episode for CC's. Im doing each level damageless and getting the bonus too.
The first episode was mostly a cake-walk and I just finished the second episode which had the difficulty ramped up quite a bit. Very satisfying to beat. Now i will be starting the 3rd and final episode

I finally made the time to clean and try out some of the imports I bought a while ago. I played a little Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Another Story on my modified SNES, and then I switched over to N64 to try Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Dancing Museum, SimCity 2000, Super Robot Spirits, and Tetris 64. I still don't have a Bio Sensor accessory, so I didn't touch those modes in Tetris 64, but I did try regular Tetris and Giga Tetris. I grew bored with regular Tetris (I've already played a lifetime's worth of regular Tetris on my Game Boy back in the day), but Giga Tetris, with its occasional massive pieces, was amusing enough. I don't think I saw a single lick of Japanese in the game from what I played, so it's easily one of the most English-friendly N64 imports I've played, if unremarkable. On that note, Super Robot Spirits seemed unremarkable too. Just your run of the mill clunky 3D fighter, except with licensed anime mecha. SimCity 2000 I've never been able to get into, not even in English or on any other platform. Disney Dancing Museum was good fun, though. I've never been great at rhythm games, even less so with ones that have dance pads, but this one seems on the easy side, so I wasn't doing half bad. The mat is surprisingly responsive, and the songs are catchier than I expected. They mostly sound like regular Japanese rhythm game music to me. With the Disney theme, I figured they'd be a lot more childish and grating.

I'm still playing Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth on Wii, and I'm steadily improving at the game. I can clear the first four stages without much difficulty now. Reaching Death at the end of the fifth stage isn't too bad either. I just need to learn his patterns more and hopefully I can tackle Dracula soon. I don't get why some series veterans talk like this game is so easy on the default difficulty. Maybe they're exaggerating for the sake of bragging, or maybe they're cranking up the number of lives per continue. Or I could just be rusty. I haven't played all the way through any Castlevania since 2012, when I beat the 3D Rondo of Blood remake on PSP. But I think the ReBirth game puts up a decent challenge on the default setting. Certainly harder than, say, Super Castlevania IV.

I've really been getting into London Detective Mysteria on Vita, so I haven't touched my Wii since my last post. The chapters don't seem to be numbered, so I've lost track of how many I've completed, but I finished a chapter that focuses on Jack (though I already know his route isn't available the first time through).

I also finally tried out Ganbare Goemon: Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu. I was too lazy to pull out my Japanese PS2, which is how I normally play Japanese PS1 games, so I took out my modded launch model PS1 instead, which I probably haven't turned on in at least a decade, since I mostly just have it as a collectible. It still works and still loads Japanese games, but it did have a hard time of it, with the music skipping a lot. I didn't play long, and the scaling is kinda funky, but it seems like it could be fun when I'm ready to invest more time into it and actually get my Japanese PS2 out.

Time for gaming has been real scarce lately. Hence why I still haven't beaten Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, which I haven't touched in over a month. I hope I'm not totally rusty at it whenever I get back to it. :/

I have been spending a lot of time hanging out with family. We played some 2-player Puzzle Bobble 2 via Neo Geo emulation. We also took turns in Donkey Kong Country 2 via SNES emulation. Not the actual 2-player modes in DKC2, but in the single-player mode. Now that I think about it, it's been forever since I've played through that game by myself, despite my replaying of the first just a few years ago and the third last year.

Since I've been receiving some of my old Limited Run Games orders recently, I briefly tried out Race the Sun, Rabi-Ribi, and Another World on Vita. I squeeze in a tiny bit of time for London Detective Mysteria here and there, usually when it's so late at night that I'm too tired for something intensive like Castlevania. Visual novels are nice because you can typically save at any time, and I don't usually get too wrapped up in trying to pull something off. So they're good when I only have, say, 30 minutes to play.

As I posted in the Beaten in 2019 topic, I've been doing a decent amount of portable gaming the last few days. I started and finished Magic Knight Rayearth on my Game Boy Advance SP, and then I played through Sesame Street: The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland via Game Boy Color emulation, haha. I had been playing a little of Skate or Die: Bad 'N Rad a year or two ago, and I picked that back up and practiced and practiced and died and died until I could finally eke out a victory. Now I've popped in Crayon Shin-chan 2: Ora to Wanpaku Gokko Dazo. It seems like the kind of game where it's a breeze if you want to just get to the end of each stage and beat it, but it puts up more of a challenge if you try to collect all the smileys and get the best ending. I suppose that's smart given the license. I'm sure a lot of Shin-chan fans are very young, so they can skip the optional stuff and enjoy the easy base game.

Besides the Game Boy stuff, I tried out Angry Birds Star Wars for Vita. I couldn't possibly care less about the Star Wars franchise, but it was fairly fun. As huge as Angry Birds is (or was?), it's actually my first time playing it.

I also played some other random stuff via emulation during hangouts. We had two TVs going with the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country, and two people playing cooperatively on each, with some swapping in and out on occasion. Our two teams were sort of racing each other, but we didn't have any particular end goal in mind, and we all quit once we got up to around the fourth/fifth areas. We also played more Neo Geo Puzzle Bobble, but we played the first one this time.

I finished off Crayon Shin-chan 2: Ora to Wanpaku Gokko Dazo on my Game Boy Advance SP, getting both the standard ending and the better ending. I was thinking about what Game Boy game I could play next, but nothing is really speaking to me right now. I popped in Paperboy (the Game Boy Color version), as I have in the past, thinking "I could probably get through this fast." But like my previous attempts, I just couldn't bring myself to play it for more than maybe 15 minutes. I've never been a Paperboy fan to begin with, and I don't know if this would even be considered a good port. So I put that away and pulled out McDonalds Monogatari: Honobono Tenchou Ikusei Game. I've got no problem with this goofy sim, but it seems like something that could take a significant amount of time, so I don't know if I'm up for getting seriously invested in it just yet.

I also finally got back to Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth on Wii, and I was pleasantly surprised to see I'm less rusty than I expected. I casually blew through the first four stages on one credit, even with being pretty lax and making some careless mistakes here and there. I just wanted a warm-up to familiarize myself with the game again, so I didn't bother tackling stage 5, where I last left off, but hopefully I haven't lost my chops there either and can have both it and the game as a whole cleared soon.

My playing of Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth on Wii is still sporadic (all the more so with my spouse playing Dragon Quest XI on that same TV now), but I did finally clear stage 5. It didn't take much practice to do so. I was already just about there when I left off, so it only took a little refresher on the stage itself and a couple practice attempts at Death to learn the rest of his attack patterns. Now I'm practicing on Dracula. I think I'll probably have him beat with less practice than stage 5. The biggest challenge is in dealing with my impatience and not making a dumb mistake in haste. Four different forms is a bit much. I can break the jaw of the big mask/skull in a flash, but the first two forms feel like they take forever. I get all the more impatient because they're based on classic forms I've fought countless times before. Right now, the best I've done is getting his final form's life bar down to four slivers. So if I just make sure I don't make any sloppy mistakes earlier in the fight, I'll have him licked.

I've actually been able to eek out a little game time on my portables since my last post. On my DSi XL I've been playing Star Fox Command that I got ftom my Secret Santa. I had this game when it came out but for some reason quit after I beat it and got that lousy ending. This time around it's got my attention and am nearing or on the last mission on my first play through.

I have not played Namco Museum but my step son has moved from Galaga to Dig Dug 2. Guess he got frustrated at my score.

When I watch my daughter in the morning at the ex's, she and I have been playing Minecraft before she goes to school. I've been building a mall from my childhood that was knocked down last year but shifted gears to build a restaurant in a villager town. It turned out to be pretty nice, complete with bar, a basement for "cold" storage and stables in the back for horses.

I recently did some trades and dipped my toes in the world of the PSP. I have a slim model along with Burnout Legends. I miss playing my Xbox and Burnout Revenge (as I wouldn't be able to get TV time with it-everyone would complain about "their turn") so this substitutes nicely. I'm still getting use to the controls but I got a bronze medal in the first road rage stage.

The PSP currently sits at work with my 3DS which has Legend of Zelda:Link Between Worlds. That game rubbed me wrong somehow the first time I played it to the point that I traded it. Now I "get it" and am at the Palace with the Master Sword.

My Vita has been silent. I want to remove the cellular modem as I think that is why the battery drains overnight. However the screws are stripping so I need to drill them out and don't have a bit small enough. Plus I'm a little afraid to. I read the Vita should work fine with the modem removed.

I've been trying to figure out McDonalds Monogatari on my Game Boy Advance SP. It seems kind of similar to Harvest Moon in a number of ways. There's a calendar, and the game goes from day to day. As far as I can tell, there's nothing that would end the game prematurely, so I assume you get a certain length of time to make the best life you can. There's barely any English info out there on this game, and what little there is seems to be from people who don't play long and don't necessarily have the greatest grasp of Japanese. But I did watch a review that said the game ended in a year. I've played most of the first month so far, and I still don't really know what I'm "supposed" to do. I'm playing as the manager of the McDonalds in Happy Town, haha, and I guess my goal is to level up my staff? And I seem to do that by doing their work for them, haha. So there are five mini-games, and grinding away at those increases the employee stats. The stats will also slowly drop if you don't work toward maintaining them. There's a limited amount of stamina and time, so there's only so much that can be done in one day. The protagonist has their own level, which I seem to increase at random by talking to customers. Sometimes talking to them makes it go up, sometimes talking does nothing, and sometimes talking makes it go down and trigger one of the employees needing help with their job. I can go to various places around town, like the homes of the staff, a movie theater, theme park, shrine, etc., but that doesn't seem to do much but increase or decrease that same level, use up or add to the stamina, and/or use up time. One time, my protagonist got asked on a date, but nothing much came of that. It doesn't seem like there's an actual romancing system, but who knows. I picked a female protagonist, so she got asked by a guy. I assume a girl asks if you pick a male protagonist. That's about the extent of what I've seen and figured out so far. For all I know, I could be doing everything all wrong and screwing over some invisible stats, but with many things being seemingly random and others being very basic, I can't imagine any vastly different approach to playing.

Other than that, I've been playing Choujin Heiki Zeroigar on PC-FX, or perhaps I should say "God-Fighter Zeroigar", as I'm playing a patched burn of the game rather than my official Japanese copy. I've been wanting to check out the fan patch for a very long time. I've been enjoying it a lot so far, but I haven't put much time into it just yet.

As I posted in the Beaten in 2019 topic, McDonalds Monogatari on my Game Boy Advance SP basically came to a premature end for me when I seemingly ran out of things to do in it. So after skipping to the end in that, I wanted to start up another portable game, especially since home console time has been elusive as ever for me. So I decided to give a serious go at something a bit unusual for me. I started playing the very first Metal Gear on MSX via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Vita. I have the same version of MGS3 that includes the MSX games on PS2 and 360, but I don't even have those systems out right now, and I know I'm gonna be better able to make time for the game on a handheld. Anyway, though I've enjoyed watching others play them plenty, I've never beaten any Metal Gear game myself (*insert shocked and horrified gasps here*), and I'm fairly inexperienced with stealth games in general. So to no great surprise, I'm not very good at it so far. I've taken an elevator up, but I keep dying on that floor, either from stepping in the gas room with no mask or being impatient and getting spotted. There are so many locked doors everywhere that I quickly concluded I couldn't memorize them all, so I'm drawing the place out on graph paper.

I haven't had time for games plus with my wife's Lent rule of "thou shalt not play video games except on Sundays" prohibits play at home when I do have time.

My wife and I stayed at a local resort overnight to get away and the place had an arcade. Unfortunately it was mostly redemption machines. I did get my wife to play skee ball, which she never did before.

Annnnd that was all the gaming I did recently. Though on a side note, the room/mini condo we stayed it had a pair of antenna rabbit ears and manuals for the appliances from when the place was built back in the 90's. There was once a 20" Zenith tabletop CRT TV in the bedroom along with a TV/VCR combo in the bedroom. So that tickled the retro-bone.

I've been very slowly chipping away at Metal Gear via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Vita. I'm now in the second building and just got the sixth key card. For some reason, I assumed the whole game would be in one single building, and I think I may have enjoyed it more were that the case. Not that I want the game to end sooner, but there's satisfaction in, bit by bit, mapping out a whole building and figuring it out. Having to immediately start from scratch on another building kinda takes away from the sense of accomplishment. On top of that, the second building is a little annoying. The one-way elevators are a nasty trick, and of course the first time I was in one I went all the way to the opposite end to check out how many floors I had access to, only to then discover I couldn't go back down. The pitfalls that randomly open up are pretty mean too. And there are plenty of rooms where the enemies are alerted as soon as you step in and other spots where you can't avoid taking damage (like taking the gas mask off to switch to your key cards). But those gripes aside, I'm still having fun with it. Going off of my menus and such, I'm guessing I'm maybe two-thirds or three-quarters done with the game? There are still a fair number of locked doors I haven't opened in the second building, so I'll have to see what I can access with that sixth card.

As I posted in the Beaten in 2019 topic, I finished off Metal Gear via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Vita. I'm currently staying with family and have a lot going on, so I haven't been doing much gaming, but I have started reading Nintendo Power again, resuming where I left off in the July 1994 issue. I read the SNES Tetris 2 coverage in it, so I've been toying around a little with that, which is possibly the first time I've played the game since the 90s. It was only the second or third SNES game I ever had (second I put any significant time into, at least, as one of those first three, Jurassic Park, was too confusing and scary for me at the time, so I barely played it). I saw a commercial for it on TV, which got me hyped up for it, and as best as I can recall, I had already briefly played and enjoyed Tetris on Game Boy at that point. But I ended up not liking Tetris 2 much and only begrudgingly played it, trying to convince myself I was having fun. I still don't like it much (and I'm kind of sick of the original Tetris too, for that matter, after playing it endlessly once I got my own Game Boy), but it's at least worth a revisit after all this time.

I started checking out the NESMaker 2019 Byte Off entries. I put the Mesen core on my NES Classic to try andcplay these Mapper 30 games. It works but seems slow. I'll have to test Mesen on my PC, hopefully tonight.

Beyond that, I haven't had time and my wife's home Lent rules are now over so maybe I can finish Star Fox Command.

I'm back home now, so I have access to my full collection again and can hopefully get some regular gaming going. I'm not sure if I'm going to resume Tetris 2 on SNES or not, but I do have my password for where I left off in the puzzle mode. I think I'm roughly 40 puzzles in? I definitely should get back to Tokyo Tattoo Girls on Vita, though. After clearing the game with one girl, as I posted about in Beaten in 2019, I beat it on Normal with two more, beat it on Easy with the first girl, and then started Normal with a fourth girl. It's only the first time through with each girl that takes some time, as I want to read and hear all the lines when conquering each ward. I skip through those scenes on subsequent runs.

I've barely touched any games in around a month now, but besides playing through the arcade version of The Simpsons with family, I've been slowly going through a big stack of Vita games I've received recently. So far, I've played a tiny bit of Spelunky, Iconoclasts, and Nurse Love Syndrome. As popular as it is, I don't know if Spelunky is really my thing. I've never been that into Spelunker to begin with. Iconoclasts seems pretty cool, though I'm undecided on its style. The pixel art itself is well done, but the style of it (and also the tone of the storytelling) seems like it's maybe a little too millennial/hipster-y for my tastes, if that makes any sense whatsoever. I guess I'll come to a conclusion whenever I decide to sink more time into the game.
