So, I got an XBOX ONE for Christmas and the first thing I do after hours of system updates is put an audio CD into the player...aaaaaand nothing. Is there REALLY not an application that plays audio CDs as part of the OS? I downloaded an (the?) audio player, and it seems I can't rip my music to the hard drive like I could with the XBOX and XBOX360. You cant even rewind or fast forward tracks.

WTF!? Seriously? I had to download over a gig of updates of god knows what before I could even use the console, which took hours, and you're telling me that I can't even use a freaking audio CD out of the box, and when I DOWNLOAD something that'll let me, I can't even rip my music anymore?

Each XBOX iteration is worst than the last when it comes the way they handle your music. The original actually let you use custom soundtracks of your ripped audio with a lot of games. The 360 didn't, it only let you play your audio in the background which isn't anywhere near the same, and super shitty by comparison. Now this ugly, heavy ass brick of a console can't even rip my music to it at all!? Or am I missing something here? I possibly could be, because the interface on this thing is just HORRIBLE. It's a convoluted mess.

Jesus, I know I'm late to the party, but this experience has reinforced my feelings about not being cut out for modern console gaming. :-/

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be a 3GB update in the future which will slightly improve the interface.

Just wondering, did the update replace the startup splash screen? I half expect to see the video below loaded every time a modern console is started.

Just rip your cds with your windows computer, and then send everything to OneDrive. Your xbox one will stream it with the Groove app, and it works really well. And youll be able to listen to your music collection from your phone too ! No need for cds anymore on the console, it would have been nice to just put a cd but its not supported anymore, same with ps4.

That's...so needlessly complicated. How many devices and applications are needed to do what a single device could out of the box now? Jesus Christ.

...it would have been nice to just put a cd but its not supported anymore, same with ps4.Wait, I can't just play a CD in the PS4 either without downloading third party applications? Lord...

Cd' s are not supported, no app will fix that unless a firmware update can add the
Support. Ripping your cd on windows is convenient and is the future!! At least you can stream your library on xbox one, on ps4 you need to put your songs on a usb stick. I get what your saying, but listening to your library is easy on xbox.

Ripping your cd on windows is convenientIf you have a Windows system...and one with an optical drive. Even still, being able to put them into your console is even more convenient.

...and is the future!!Urgh.

There's an app called Audio CD Player. You have to download it from the store.

Is this all that news worthy? 15 years ago, the GameCube shipped without a CD optical drive.
Xbox has been lagging behind ages in tech terms.
