Got my Punisher pcb in last night before work. I won it from an international auction from Spain some time ago that had a stock photo for super cheap. I figured it was likely a bootleg, but for how silly cheap it was, I threw out a very low (less than $50) bid and ended up winning. When I got home from work this morning I opened it up, and... yup, bootleg. It has the typical sound issue where the sound effects are correct, but the music loops too quickly, after, like, 15 seconds.

I don't know if there's a reasonable fix for the sound issue, but at least it plays correctly, so I'll have my fun with it. My wife actually liked it a bit, though the violence makes her want to keep it away from our son. I forget sometimes that she's pretty good at beat 'em ups, and used to play Sengoku 2 and 3 on AES with me a lot when we were dating. So, I'll get to play through it with her at least once.

So, yeah... while I quietly hoped that magically it'd be legit, I can't be upset at a boot for what I paid. Was worth a shot. :) At least the GI Joe board coming in soon is legit!

How many pcbs do you own? You seem to get them fairly regularly.

How many pcbs do you own? You seem to get them fairly regularly.

I get a few every year. I believe what I have is:

Dedicated cabinets:

Sunset Riders (4 player)
Neo Geo

I have pcbs/carts for:

Black Tiger
Gondomania

Devastators

GI Joe
WWF Wrestlefest
Ninja Baseball Bat Man
US Championship V'ball
P.O.W.
The Punisher (Bootleg)
Windjammers
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad
Super Sidekicks 2
Metal Slug
Neo Geo 161 in 1 multicart

I also have 30 AES carts, but they're for the console, and a few spares for flakier pcbs like Time Soldiers. My Neo Geo AES games are all complete from back when they didn't cost so much, and are:

Aaargh! I finally got to test my GI Joe pcb that arrived this week, and NO SOUND. Aaaaarrrrgh! The caps on the hybrid sound module are going bad, which is an incredibly common fault on these things. The seller is being cool about it and searching for another board to replace it, but is also offering reimbursement if I can find a local tech to do the job. I don't want to try this job, as the soldering on the crowded module is so precise and cramped for space, plus requires a load of stripping epoxy.

I've contacted a couple of local businesses here in St Louis this morning, so I'll be waiting on their responses. Anybody near St Louis or in the US know someone who does quality work? This board is one that is important to me as one I've wanted for years, so I just want to insure that it's done right.

Got my repaired GI Joe pcb back this morning! Found a guy on klov who does the tricky hybrid sound module repair, and he turned out not only to be local, but just a really nice guy as well. Works like a champ!

I was saying this morning... with arcade games, you buy some to play with friends, some for the nostalgia or throwback feel, and some as classics that visitors can relate to... but GI Joe was for me. :) It's a game I'll surely play with others, but I bought this one purely because I wanted to play it. It's nice to have it back and working!
