... and the store owners let me have it for $15 (cart only, former rental, save battery still works).
So far its.... an interesting game, but I'm noticing a lot of... quirks. I forget if Daria mentioned these in her review, but they seem like the kind of small things a reviewer would not feel worth mentioning.
For example, I notice that there's a weird stagger to the walking: Your characters don't move smoothly like in most top-view RPGs, instead every three steps they kind of "skip" and then start moving again, like they get staggered by something.
If you select an action icon (the menus are icon-based) but then back out of it, the rest of the icons are invisible until you move the cursor or back out even further. Sometimes I don't even realize I've backed out and wind up backing out even further.
You apparently can not refill HP in battle... at all. the healing spells simply can't be selected that I have seen, and I've seen no option to use items in battle.
The manual, by the way, has errors up to the effing roof, including getting the names of like all the spells wrong.
That being said, so far I've adapted to its quirks and found the game playable, and I'm still giving it a fair chance to see if it'll overcome its problems and turn out to be worth playing despite its quirks, like several other Renovation titles are. It really does have this "Early Genesis" charm about it along with reminding me of Ultima, so I really want to like it.
I love that the game's title, by the way, comes from the hero's girlfriend, who I seem to remember Daria stating never ever becomes relevant to the plot (correct me if I'm wrong).
