Does anyone know if there is a broadband adapter that works with the Dreamcast that's not the official? Is there some Chinese knockoffs or anything? The official is nearly $200 and to me that's not worth it to play some PSO.

Likely not, or if there is its not well known. Consider saving funds/selling goods.

There used to be heavily modified Dreamcasts sold on taobao a few years ago - if I can find the link I'll pass it on. A contemporary example:https://world.taobao.com/item/23337544937.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a21m2.1.0.0

There is also the DreamPI project where you modify a Raspberry Pi computer to simulate the dialup modem. I have several Rasperry Pis and have wanted to try this for a while, but it looks like it would take some time to build, and free time is not something i have a lot of these days. I suppose its not broadband per say but still allows you to play many of the DC games online and is still being updated.

Games that are currently supported:
Phantasy Star Online Version 2.
DreamKey 3.0
Quake 3 Arena
Sonic Adventure (website)
Starlancer
Maximum Pool
4x4 Evolution
ChuChu Rocket!
Starlancer

As mentioned the Dream Pi is by far cheaper, there is a website that has the modem with inducer https://www.dreamcastlive.net, I am actually waiting for one to come on the mail next week, also got a raspberry pi from amazon, most likely by Thursday I’ll be able to have all setup, I’ll be able to comment if it’s worth the price, in a couple of weeks I’ll try to compare connections between bba and modem.

The problem with the bba is that is not supported by many games, the modem has more games you can play.

After 17 years of wanting to buy a BBA and $108 later, I finally have one - a SEGA Dreamcast Broadband Adapter! Sure, there are more games which are compatible with the dial-up modem / DreamPi, but dang it, ever since SEGA gave away a BBA during a game of PSO that I played in 2001, I have wanted a BBA very much!

Seriously, SEGA, the prize for the trivia contest in the lobby was supposed to be a $50 Dreamcast game, not a $60 BBA! Sure, he asked for one, but did you really have to make an exception for him due to him being a mega fan that already owned so many of the games but not the Broadband Adapter? ;-)

Long story short, it is a relief to finally own one. Who else here owns a BBA?

This BBA is to be in addition to a DreamPi some day.

I was close to buying one several times. However, after research, seems the DreamPi makes it largely unnecessary.

I just wanted to chime in with the fact that I bought a DreamPi not too long ago. I haven't used it yet to go online, but like the BBA I am glad to own it!

Yeah I feel the whole Dreamcast Live thing is a bit underdeveloped. However, it makes spending $$$ on the BBA totally unneeded.

So internet gamepack is back online for the dreamcast! this game is basically several poker style card games that are playable online. It was previously unreleased but thanks to Shuouma the online has been reversed and restored. Now is a great time to grab a dreampi from the dreamcastlive.net site and join our online community! There are 22 games back online for DC
