Okay, I have two SCPH-1001 units that keep skipping.
One is made July 1995 and one is made July 1996.
No matter what laser i put in, I put in my SCPH-7501 drive and it works, but some games freeze or skip. I even tried adjusting the BIAS and GAIN without using a multimeter and it didn't fix anything. I put the AEM drive back in the 7501 and it's working fine. Should i get a KSM-440-BAM or something. Please help me fix it, The 1996 one doesn't skip while the 1995 one skips alot. Is it properly the BA6 chip that is shot?

Calibrate it. Probably fix the problem with the replacement laser. Actually use a multimeter because adjusting it blindly will likely produce poor results like you're seeing.

The 1001 models have a reputation of FMV skipping, this due to the earlier disc reader. I own one myself, but do not see the appeal of the separate RCA jacks since newer models have the same connections built into the PlayStation cable. My preference is the 7500 series that have both the Soundscope CD Music, Serial Port for carts and a much more reliable disc reader.

they are the best model and they can be replaced with a new laser and calibrated
