So here's how it works: Post gives a description and you have to identify the game (or series) it matches.

So, let's get the ball rolling:

#1 - Killed a zombie got a torch, killed a demon got a dagger, killed a ghoul and got the holy shield and now I'm running around in my underwear about to die.

#2 - Damn that flying jellyfish, I'm only trying to swim the floating river to get an orb of a DNA helix creature, QUIT GRABBING ME!

#3 - Sometimes I wonder how old arcade stars survive without me and my trusty slingshot... tho sometimes they don't survive anyway because I'm the one killing them.

(All the games I named are from either the 8- or 16-Bit era)

If you want to add your own games for people to guess, a few guidelines:

First, don't be too clinical. Make the description whimsical but accurate. "Its a game where a plumber grows big with mushrooms" isn't fun enough, but saying "a shroom addict crushes his enemies beneath his feet and sends his nemesis to a boiling death" is more fun.

Second, try not to use proper names since those are often dead giveaways.

That's all I've got for now. I'll be back later!

Tricky. #1 is Ghosts 'n Goblins, though...

Is #3 a Bart Simpson game? I haven't played them, but that's all that comes to mind for slingshots.

#2 - Ecco the Dolphin?

I have no doubt that you are correct.

I will give 10,000 Meseta to the first person to correctly guess mine. An old man climbs a bunch of ladders while dodging falling octopus, eggs and other shit (sometimes literal shit) to reach a pretty young girl.

Edmond Dantes

No, #3 is not a Simpsons game, but you're actually on the right track... the main character IS yellow.

(#1 and #2 have been guessed correctly--specifically #2 is Ecco the Tides of Time, but like I said having the correct franchise counts as well)

I'm starting to think #3 is Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures.

RP2A03... That's sounding like a lot of Kong clones to think through... my knee jerk reaction was Imagic's Beauty and the Beast, but I don't recall falling octopi.

I was too busy looking at gameplay videos and the wikipedia article to verify...

The player instead takes the role of an observer, and, instead of directly interacting with the world by a standard click interface, is armed with a slingshot that can be used to indirectly affect or strike objects in the world, including Pac-Man himself.

Matches the given clue perfectly.

Nope. No hairy apes in this one.

Edmond Dantes

Yep. #3 is definitely Pac-Man 2: the New Adventures, one of the most underrated games out there.

I have no idea what RP2A03's game is.

Anyway, here's a few more from me:

#4 - I always wondered why the ship can only take one hit but these attached tentacles (which must be made of the same material) are basically invincible and can even block shots. They're good against eyeballs though.

#5 - Never Forget Me. The Moon is Your Friend. W-E-E-B-L-E F-A-L-L-S D-O-W-N

#6 - Somehow this suit can use its occupant to swing around and yet he survives despite that its apparently the suit that depends on said occupant rather than the other way around. Probably best if you don't take it seriously. The creators clearly didn't.

celerystalker

#6-Earthworm Jim

Edmond Dantes
06-04-2017, 04:08 AM
Yup, its EWJ.

And seriously its whack how Jim himself is used as a tool and weapon despite it being the suit that's supposed to be the source of his power.

I'll give you all a hint for the other two since they seem to have stumped people:

#4 didn't get a home console release until much later, in a two-game set only released in Japan for the Saturn and Playstation... both being incredibly 'spensive.

#5 never got any sort of home console release at all. It's arcade-only.

Cloud121

Number 4 would be the Capcom Dungeon and Dragons arcade games.

celerystalker
06-04-2017, 12:46 PM
Number 4 would be the Capcom Dungeon and Dragons arcade games.

Nah. Only arcade game with tentacles mounted to a ship I can think of is X-Multiply.

#5 made me look through my shit. It did get a PS2 release in Japan on the Oretachi Game Center line. Trio the Punch, right?

Edmond Dantes
06-05-2017, 05:57 AM
Celerystalker is good at this. Yes #4 is X-Multiply and #5 is Trio the Punch (I didn't know about the PS2 release).

I kinda wondered how Dungeons and Dragons fits #4 at all until I realized Cloud must've thought I was describing a Beholder.

AND NOW FOR THREE MORE!

#7 is also not Dungeons and Dragons, but it IS by Capcom and involves a fantasy setting and rolling dice.... and characters who somehow know about Earth things like sports, TV shows, famous authors...

#8 is probably the only game ever made where you find out what time period you're in by glancing up at the status bar. Said bar gives a game title rather than a year, because its that kind of game.

#9 is a game that never existed and yet was somehow still responsible for the events in the game #8 refers to.

EDIT: It seems people forgot the "guessing the franchise is good enough" rule anyway but in case you haven't, for those last two it only counts if you name the exact game.

celerystalker
06-05-2017, 08:47 AM
#7 is Quiz & Dragons. There's a fun alternate version on Capcom Classics 2 that's all about Capcom video games.

I'll have to give the other two some thought. At first, I thought Time Soldiers, as it does tell you your time period on the status bar, but #9 negates that, so back to bed and letting it ruminate.

Celerystalker - your guess is correct for Quiz and Dragons... so how exactly do you get that alternate version? I played it on CCC Volume 2 (PS2 version) and it was general trivia.

jb142 - You've got #8 correct but not #9. Think about what you learn in the sewers, and what floppy disk Roger actually acquires later in the game.

jb143

Then the only other option would be Space Quest X: Latex Babes of Estros

I just assumed XII because that's where IV starts out.

It's in the Extras menu. I don't believe it had to be unlocked, but I'll slap it in when I get a chance and confirm.

Edit:

Yep, on the main menu, highlight "Extras." You'll see that if you press circle, it will launch "Capcom Quiz," which is a modified version of Quiz & Dragonz that replaces the original question set with all new questions about Capcom video games, their designers, etc.

Umm.... we seem to be having some communication difficulties here.

It's not a time period you visit--those themselves exist only because this game's floppies were found, according to this hologram dude in the sewer. And again, you get this game's disk as an in-game item. You don't ever get an SQ disk in-game, but you do get a game from ANOTHER Sierra franchise.

jb143
06-07-2017, 11:54 AM
Derp...It's Leisure Suit Larry 4 (wasn't there multiple subtitles?)..haha

The clue completely threw me off since the events in XII ARE what started the game. But you're right, Leisure Suit Larry 4 is the obvious answer.

Edmond Dantes
06-07-2017, 01:08 PM
Sometimes LSL4 is given the subtitle "The Missing Floppies."

I do love how that game became such an in-joke at Sierra to the point where even boxed collections of the LSL games joke about it.

"People demanded that we never make an LSL4... so we skipped it and made part five instead!"

Okay, so.... after this round I'll let someone else come up with the clues.

#10 - Interesting how this green-suited dude looks just like that blue dude and that yellow dude, but enough with his cryptic statements, let's just fight already!

#11 - One of those lapses of Game Logic you just have to accept: That this spaceship can take multiple hits during the first-person space battle-and-exploration segments but dies in one hit during the side-scrolling shmup segments! (Since there might be mutliple games like this, I'm gonna narrow it down by saying its an NES game).

#12 - Interesting how the guy with "Ax" in his name... uses a sword. Maybe they meant to give his name to the dwarf?

Gonna do an extra so the next guy won't have to begin on an unlucky number:

#13 - Really, don't bump into those stone things if you don't want a giant dog head to kill you. Also staying out late isn't good not because you get tired, but because sometimes a constellation randomly decides to kick your ass.

Also we never figured out what RP2A03's game was...

jperryss
06-09-2017, 03:50 PM
Ha! OK.

#14 - They say that fat floats in water. Well, after seeing plump main character of this game, I'd say that fat doesn't float, and neither do pooping birds, anthropomorphic turtles, or skating rockets.

#15 - I'm going as fast as I can but this other jerk is flipping and spinning all over the place and yet still beats me to the finish line. And that scrolling background sure is making me sick.

Edmond Dantes
06-11-2017, 01:19 PM
Is #15 an installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog series? I recall Sonic CD having a race, tho you're supposed to win that one so I'm not sure it fits the "he always beats me" part of the clue.

jperryss
06-11-2017, 08:46 PM

Yep! My hints kinda sucked.

Edmond Dantes
06-12-2017, 10:04 AM
Aw crud I should've gotten that one since I've played a lot of Uniracers.

Trying to remember all the games with plump protagonists who don't float I've ever played. I was about to guess #14 was Yume Penguin Monogatari but in that water actually makes you fat and you do indeed float.

A good way to narrow it down is to say what generation/system its for if you feel inclined to give hints.

jperryss
06-12-2017, 10:25 AM
It was released for only one console which was advertised as a 16-bit system, but could be considered 8-bit depending on how you define it. Also, the main character is a bird (but not a penguin).

....... not gonna continue the game by posting more? Fine, I'll do it.

Note though, lately I've been having storms in my area that keep me offline for random periods of time so don't be surprised if I don't confirm an answer for a few days.

Anyway:

#16 - Can anyone tell me why these weapons keep disappearing after I kill the guys I cribbed them from to begin with? This whip would really be useful against that purple haired guy I'll meet after climbing all these ladders. By the way, WHOEVER PUT THAT WALL WITH THE RANDOM BRICKS SHOOTING OUT AT YOU SHOULD DIE.

#17 - While some levels require us to shoot up up or down down, we mostly shoot left right left right hoping to at least Be A Start of an offensive against this alien menace.

#18 - Part of my game's title contains what sounds like just bragging but is something I literally do. I'm so cool!

#19 - You can't turn this set of three sideways, you can only change their order in hopes of making a matching set with others that came before.

#20 - Fun fact about this game: Most people don't know that it was actually a sequel to an arcade game, and that one of the playable characters was actually the main villain of said arcade game. The other playable character was the star of the original arcade and is one of the unsung female protagonists of gaming.

Exactly! The full name is Awesome Possum Kicks Dr Machino's Butt... and according to video's I've seen, each level ends with an animation where he literally kicks Dr. Machino's butt and sends him flying cartoonishly.

@kupomogli -- I can't make these too easy. Well, okay, maybe they could stand to be slightly easier.

My brain is fried right now due to IRL stuff, so....

Yes! In Virtua Tennis, when you go too long without buying a stamina-refreshing sports drink, your character starts flashing red on the status screen and can no longer hit balls with any power.
