Hello, Nintendo? It's about Super Mario Odyssey. The Game Boy called. It says that Avenging Spirit is pretty upset. Uh-huh. Yeah, AS claims you stole its gimmick. What's that? Really? Huh. All right, if you say so. Yeah, perhaps others won't notice. OK, yeah... talk to you later then.

Paradroid (1985) got there first with the concept of taking over other robots so you use their powers instead heh, albeit in a more limited way than Avenging Spirit.

Not sure if Blazeon came before or after Avenging Spirit, but I recall it also had the "steal enemy forms" mechanic. I think the SNES version of Blazeon was released the same year as Avenging Spirit, but I'm not sure about the arcade version of Blazeon (which I didn't know existed until a little while ago).

The Gameboy game of Avenging Spirit is a port of the arcade game. But anyways, copying game mechanics is nothing new.

This can't be true. Nintendo does everything first. These games copied Super Mario Odyssey.

And Gaiares did it before Avenging Spirit. While not taking over enemy forms, but rather taking over enemy weapons, pretty much same difference.
