Re: Top 10 Atari 2600 Games - WAIT here me out, YES lists are stupid and pointless but I am just curious to see how everyone's compares and which titles seem to repeat or not ;) Anyone "old" and grew up with Atari 2600 like me? In no particular order...
Escape from the Mindmaster - The first game I bought for the Supercharger, and it was amazing. Its impressive 3D viewpoint blew me away.
Adventure - What needs to be said?
Dark Cavern - What's better than a good maze game? Being able to shoot your pursuers! Can't even tell you how many hours I spent on this.
Ixion - An unreleased port of an unreleased Sega arcade game, played it at a gaming convention a decade ago and had to own it.
Juno First - A suprisingly strong homebrew port of the arcade game, kind of a third-person perspective version of Defender. If I had a copy back in the day I would have played it until my eyes bled.
Lock N’ Chase - A great Pac-Man substitute with the option of creating barricades behind yourself. I got this one free from Mattel, and played it constantly.
Pitfall II - Again, what's there to say? It's brilliant.
Riddle of the Sphinx - A nice attempt at creating a game with depth on the 2600.
Secret Quest - A great little adventure game with a slightly high difficulty level. I got it after it came out (after seeing it in the Atarian Magazine) but never managed to get past the fourth station.
Phaser Patrol - Another Supercharger game, it put all the other 3D space shooters on the system to shame. And when you "fry" it, enemy ships become invisible until they're on top of you. :)
Here are mine:
Dodge 'Em
Lock n Chase
NightDriver
Battlezone
Pole Position
Ms. Pac-Man
Phaser Patrol
Missile Command
Solar Fox
Mountain King

Back in the day it was all about Space Invaders and Combat. I don't remember much else so they are favourites for sentimental reasons. Nowadays I really dig Missile Command (",)

I haven't thought about this in a while, but some of my favorites off the top of my head:
● Keystone Kapers (is definitely my favorite)
● Chopper Command
● Demon Attack
● Freeway (I thought this game was HILARIOUS in 2 player as a kid)
● Frogger
● Lock 'N Chase
● Missle Command
● Pitfall
● Raiders of the Lost Ark (really)
● River Raid (maybe)

As always, there are too many good games to mention. But here are 10 that come to mind when I think of Atari 2600 VCS:
Yars' Revenge
Warlords
Space Invaders
Missile Command
Ms Pac-Man
Solaris
Stargate
Fast Food
River Raid
Solar Fox
Oof, what a lame list. I know Pitfall 2 should be there, but I always played the Atari 800 version, which was always just a little better.
Honorable Mention: Gopher by US Games. Seriously, I loved that video game when I was a kid, even though it was kinda violent (you crush gophers with a shovel). I was also crazy addicted to Fast Food by Telesys, enough to buy all their Atari games (Cosmic Creeps was okay). Solar Fox was spectacular, better than the arcade IMHO, but the touchy controls just made me want to break things. I wish some indie programmer would just tweak that game so the steering would be perfect. And Jr Pac-Man was fantastic but brutally hard. I don't believe I've ever seen all the levels. But it was super-cool to play in 1987.

I'm a little partial to classic Activision titles! : )

Hey, at least I gave it an honorable mention! Dragonfire really is one of those criminally underrated Atari games.

I was born in 1992, so I didn't grow up in the Atari 2600 era. That said, I do have two 2600s (one Atari, and one Sears Atari that used to be my mom's back in the early '80s) and played a handful of games.
Dodge 'Em
Pitfall
Space Invaders
Super Breakout
Combat
Towering Inferno
Tunnel Runner (3D on Atari? AWESOME!)
Haunted House
Mangia (LOL)
ET (my mom loved it as a kid, so it gets in on that alone, plus it's not THAT bad of a game)

I probably have a longer list but off the top of my head:
H.E.R.O.
Keystone Kapers
Towering Inferno
