I require quality opinions from real retro gamers who are dyed-in-the-wool veterans of the console wars! How are Tomee's and Retro-bit's NES-101 wannabe controllers?

I've tried a Tomee. Function wise it seemed alright. the weight doesn't feel quite right, but every button seemed to respond as needed.

I think I had a Tomee pad but it wasn't the dogbone, it may have been an SNES controller. The buttons responded but sometimes things felt wrong. In particular I noticed sometimes diagonals (like if I'm trying to shoot diagonally in a Contra game) didn't always register as on the spot as i would like. This could be just adjustment woes on my part though as I'm very used to certain kinds of controls and very picky about my D-pads.

Specifically about the D-pad, what more can you guys tell me?

I think they are missing the "anchor" in the middle, so you can't apply pressure and "rock" around on it to change direction. That's the different "feel".

Also, if you're thinking of cannibalizing parts from one to fix/resurrect an actual NES controller, such as putting the old PCB in the new shell... it won't work. The screws etc are in different places. Tho I guess you could drill holes in the right areas.
