My $830 eBay sale of the signed Dragster cartridge took another twist and turn. Here's the full story and my final word on the topic:

Nowhere near $800 was paid for this.

Yep, the headline is deceptive. Some fake bidder (and maybe more than one) bid it up to $830, but it didn't "go" for that.

One of the reasons you can't completely trust "eBay prices"...especially on things like this. We have no idea what things actually sold for since eBay only shows the final bid. I recall seeing several news articles on items that sold for crazy amounts but on the collector forums you learn that the high bidder never paid.

From the looks of the bidding history, the winner put in 1 insanely high bid on the second day when it was in the $230 range probably not expecting it to actually go so high. There wasn't exactly a bidding war per-se...there was one other bidder that kept upping their bid throughout the rest of the week until they eventually gave up.

For someone like Todd, I would not even pay $1 unless I could pay to smash the cart for having his sig on it.

I wish I hadn't read that article. I always hate when stories don't disclose prices or other important or fascinating details. Now all we know is that the game sold for a "fair price" between $5 and $830 which won't be disclosed. Wow, great - now this niggling bit is going to annoy me for who knows how long.
