I recently acquired a PS2 (Fat) and it runs fine. I've tried PS1 and PS2 games, and everything is working. But I've noticed there's clicking sound as the disc spins. It's pretty consistent and loud. I'm wondering if the motor could have a bad bearing or if it's something else.

I have some technical skills with electronics, so I'm not afraid to crack something open. But I'm wondering what I could/should be looking for. My first guess would be, go in there, clean things up with some compressed air, and see if that helps.

Do you folks have any other ideas? I'm going to try to document the attempt, so pics would be forthcoming.

My guess is that your laser is working fine for the moment but is on its way out. Depending on the clicking sound, it's probably your laser trying to read the disc but the diode is getting weak in it. It would really help for you to upload a video or audio recording of the issue, so we can get a better idea.
