Sorry if this has been posted before. I posted this on sega-16 also and got no response. I have a sega cd model 1 and it won't play Mortal Kombat. I know the disc is good and the system plays everything else I have but not this. Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated.

Just to completely rule out the disc...Have you tried on another system? Or can your computer read it? Maybe try it on an emulator.

What exactly are the symptoms?

I ask because I recall an issue of Gamepro or something where someone had this issue--and it was with Mortal Kombat even--and apparently some games will run on a model 2 but not a model 1 (the issue IIRC claimed there was an exchange program if your disc has this problem).

I highly doubt that's it, but its something to consider--I think in that case tho the game was outright giving the dude an error message of some sort that specifically mentioned some sort of incompatibility, not just random refusing to read or anything like that.

This is a real deal; certain versions of Mortal Kombat won't work with a model 1 Sega CD. I have no idea if this applies to only a US/NTSC game/system setup, but it's definitely a thing. Reason this sticks out in my head was I helped run a video rental shop at the time it was released and had multiple returns from model 1 owners. Not too long afterwards I read that same thing in Gamepro about it being a widespread thing.
