My name is Geoff and I'm a newbie to your site. I like everyone here have all the old systems, but my latest gaming fetish are arcades. Anyone here collect coin-ops? In my collection now, I have a Mrs. Pac-man(in a Scramble cabinet), Pacland, Frogger, Donkey Kong Jr. cocktail, and a NBA Jam TE. I'm looking forward to gettig to know ya.

Geo

Hey Geo,

I'm a newbie here too! Well, I've been lurking for a while, but not that long!

Glad to see another arcade collector here! I've got about 20 uprights in various states of not working and probably 30 or so misc jamma boards. Let's see, I've got a Galaga, Millipede/Centipede combo, Tron, Smash TV/Total Carnage combo, Sinistar, Super Off Road, Indy Heat, 1942 cocktail, 33 inch Jamma cab with varoius fighters in it (MK series, KI 1, Bloodstorm, SF2, etc), two defenders, two upright warlords, two asteroids, two Ms Pac Mans, Star Wars upright, Moon Patrol, Playchoice 10 Dual monitor, Arkanoid, and a few misc junker cabs.. Been collecting for about 3 years now and it's taken over my house!!

Looks like you've got a great collection going! One of these days I need to build myself a DK. The only Nintendo I have is the playchoice and it's filled will all the old original NES games I used to play! Gotta love Pro Wrestling and Duck Hunt!! Do you ever hang out on RGVAC?

I don't collect them, but I have a Sega/Midway Up'N Down upright in my studio apartment.

I started getting interested in acquiring a couple of particular coin-ops about 3 years ago.. but I haven't yet simply because I've been travelling around for the past 3 years! LOL Once I settle down though, I am definitely starting up a coinop collection :D

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. Yeah Pace, my collection is starting to grow. I really started with the coin-ops about 6-8 months ago. I said, I just want one. Now my place is starting to look like that Silver Spoons house! Your collection rocks Pace! I've visited RGVAC before, but spend more time surfing other arcade help sites and KLOV.

A lot of people have the misconception that arcades are overly-expensive. This can be true, but there are a lot of resources out there to get em. I have not been doing this long, but the one thing to know is to not pay for shipping on these bad boys. I normally buy these things fairly local, and in decent condition. The best deals I've found always require a little maintenance. E.g. I bought my DK jr. cocktail off ebay for $100. All it needed was a cap kit, and some wire adjustments. By the way, any idea where I can get some good instructional stickers for my dk jr cocktail or a scramble pcb?

Anyway, nice to meet you all and if you're ever in Louisville, KY give me a ring!

I forgot to mention that before I acquired my first game (NBA JAM TE),
I saw a Playchoice 10 in perfect working condition on ebay. It was to be picked up only in some crap ass part of Kentucky. Nobody bid on it, and he only wanted like $125 for it. It was only like a 3-hour drive for me, but I didn;t jump on it. At the time I was debating if I really wanted to have these big frekin' monsters in my place.

When I got NBA Jam on ebay, I was drunk. It was the best thing that happened to me ever while drinking. Now that I got over the shock of purchasing such an item, I can't quit.

Still am kicking myself for letting that Playchoice go though!

My motto is 1 is a fluke, 2 is a coincidence and 3 is a collection. I am currently at the coincidence phase with Robotron and Mario Brothers.

I have a dedicated MK2 machine.

I hope to one day own a Neo Geo 2 or 4 slot, and another cab to use with CPS2 games.

I do have a nice collection of arcade pcb's though, mostly MVS and CPS2.

Only interested in a Tempest. Any more and I'd have to give up my Console/Computer collections.

Geo,

Thanks man! I'm pretty proud of my collection! I've been refining it for the past few years and I'm just a few games away from having all the main ones I wanted. Then I get to start on the games that would be nice to have!

These things do take up the space, but you are right. They are not expensive at all if you look around enough. I got both of my Ms. Pacs for $75 a pop. They need a LOT of attention, but for under $100 each more, I could be playing both of them. $175 for a working Ms Pac is pretty good I'd say! One of my Warlords was given to me.. and it worked great! Capped the monitor and cleaned it up and I've got a good looking rare game!

Ouch on the playchoice. I had to pony up quite a bit to get mine.. Swapped a dedicated X-Men 4 player, a 25" Dynamo (sf2 style), and a 4 slot Neo Cab with no board for the Playchoice and a Tron. Got a few other misc things thrown in, but it was still expensive. But hey, it was worth it! I really like the dual monitor set ups and I ended up with some good games for it, so I was happy!

Next time I make it to Lousiville (Louisville Gas and Electric is a client of mine), I'll let you know. Maybe we can hook up and play some Jam!!

I dont collect exactly. My house is too small.

I have had to four at any one time.

Right now, I just have a JAMMA cabinet, which I am selling, fitted with Konam Hyper Olympic. When that goes, I shall be getting a shoot -em up.

Arcade collector here. I've got about 20-ish (without thinking too hard), with my favorites being Galaxian and Vs. Super Mario Bros. in a DK jr. cab. And of course, the MAME machine. :D

Pace,

LG+E is a client of mine too! I am in sales and work for US Bank. I take care of credit card services for corporate clients. That's funny. Yeah man, shoot me an email to my personal account, gfschn01@yahoo.com when you're in town. There is not a lot of retro gaming places around here, but there is one really cool place. Its called Odyssey Arcade. The owner buys/sells/fixes old coin-ops/pinballs and has an arcade with about 15-20 games to play. He's a young guy who knows almost everything about arcades. Its a great place to dump some quarters.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the interest in coin-ops. I have not had a chance to check out the site completely, but I didn't see any threads about coin-ops. Anybody have some pictures of their games? Once I get my new camera I'll post some of mine.

I'm sure you guys have been here before. Its a place to find retro games/arcades in your area. Check it out if you haven't.

Thanks for the advice digital, I'll get another Av. I just like that one so much. It stimulates the mind (and other things) when I'm typing.

Before I forget, anybody ever been to that annual Classic Gaming Expo event? I think that's what its called. They just held it in August out in Vegas. Here's the link: http://www.cgexpo.com/

Again, info about it is probably on this kick ass webpage somewhere. I'm going to keep my ears open about next year's event. I already have a couple of friends that would like to go. Anybody else interested?

OK, I'll eventually learn that everything I know has already been discussed in detail about 6 months ago. Thanks for the heads up Antics. I will now thoroughly scope your site to avoid any other silly posts. :embarrassed:
