View Full Version : Team-based Local Co-op For Classic Consoles
I'm looking for three, four, or more player video games that allow for team-based local co-op, games that allow things such as two vs. one or two vs. two or even larger teams using something like system link for the SEGA Saturn or PlayStation, their multi-taps, or something like that. A lot of people these days want to play in tournaments on teams and I like to set up classic consoles so instead of having a bunch of modern PC's, Xboxes, PlayStation 4's, Switches, or whatever, I want to create tournaments using classic games for older consoles such as the Dreamcast, Wii, or N64. What are some suggestions for applicable games? I was thinking of Street Fighter Alpha 3, but what else is good?

Let's see, on N64:
Goldeneye (I think it has teams)
Perfect Dark
WWF No Mercy-I think all WCW/WWF Aki games have teams.
Depending on your thoughts on what constitutes "team play" (just the players or players with CPU players) most sports games.
My group didn't do a lot if team play, so the above us pretty much all I can think of.

Power Stone 1 or 2 on Dreamcast, maybe?
There's gotta be a Bomberman that'll work.
Pac Man vs on GC

Worms: Armageddon for N64? I think I recall that you can set up different combinations of teams.

Dreamcast
Virtual On Oratario Tangram, can full screen for vs if you have the link cable, two monitors, two copies of games.
Gauntlet Legends, has four players for co-op.
Just to be clear, I'm looking for games where two teams of humans fight each other so I believe that Virtual On and Gauntlet Legends won't work for that. Though it isn't an exact analog, think of games like Team Fortress 2 or Q3A or Unreal Tournament where we have a bunch of people on one team (the red team) and a bunch of people on the other team (the blue team) and they're constantly fighting each other over control points or Capture the Flag or whatever the goal is. I'm looking for that except for classic consoles and four people with four controllers on a single console or multiple consoles if required, not just system link for simple one versus one gameplay. No one versus one, it has to be many vs. many. The exception was the case of the aforementioned SFA3 because that game allows teams to be one or two versus two.
PS1: Poy Poy 1 & 2, Quake II, Circuit Breakers, couple wrestling games (WWF Smackdown, Fire Pro G, Toukon Retsuden)
Death Tank and Death Tank Zwei hidden in Powerslave and Duke Nukem for Saturn were pretty fun as well.
