Any platform, any era.

Here are mine. Hard to narrow it down to just ten but I am going with games that I feel are timeless, significant to their respective genre, and I could play over and over. In no order:

Out Run - Yu Suzuki's crowning achievement, a joy to play. Immediate satisfaction.

Track and Field - a game that truly can test your physical endurance. Setting a high score on this game means so much more than on any other game.

Super Mario 64 - I still remember what i was like first seeing a video game fully rendered in 3D for the first time in 96. Love the soundtrack, really fun, and great balance of difficulty.

Symphony of the Night - Epic soundtrack, memorable boss fights, very lengthy game.

Mortal Kombat 2 - My favorite multiplayer game. Its one of the few fighting games I have really enjoyed. Its too bad the series peaked so early and hasnt really recovered since then.

Resident Evil - it created the survival horror genre and countless imitators. Hard game to play but oh so rewarding if you can survive it

Grand Theft Auto 3 - I still play it to death to this day. Addictive, hilarious, fun, and ridiculous amount of replay value.

Halo - basically the reason people bought an Xbox. Without it, there probably would not be an Xbox One today. Its the gold standard for FPSs... simple, beautiful, original storyline, great multiplayer.

Ridge Racer - Ive never played the arcade version so I can only judge the PS1 version. I love the pick up and play style games and its one of those that with a semi steep learning curve, which makes setting a new record all the more satisfying. The announcer really gets me pumped up and I love the soundtrack.

Tetris - it is hard to find fault in a game so simple, addictive, and challenging. Theres nothing I can say about it that hasnt already been said.

Boring list, I know, but it is hard to pin it down to just ten.

Because my favorite two games are essentially the same game, here's my top 11.

-Brigandine
-Brigandine Grand Edition
-Tactics Ogre. PS1 or SF version, just not PSP version. The PSP version has so many cool additions, but so many bad design choices.
-Arc the Lad 2
-Final Fantasy 6
-Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles
-Super Castlevania 4
-Ninja Gaiden 2 The Dark Sword of Chaos
-God Hand
-Final Fantasy Tactics
-SMT Nocturne

This was harder than I thought as I think my 'favorite' games of all time are slightly different than the 'best' games that I have played of all time (although, of course, there is some overlap).

Thinking about this list, I think a lot of what makes a game a favorite of mine is the nostalgia, not just for the game, but for the period in my life when I played it. There are just some games that jive with the specific time in your life when you play them and that really amplifies the importance of the game to you (and why you still keep coming back to these games today).

I've played many a great game, but only a handful get regularly revisited.

But, without further ado, here is my top 10 in no particular order:

- Super Mario 64
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild
- Final Fantasy III/IV
- Chrono Trigger
- Super Metroid
- Donkey Kong Country 2
- Donkey Kong Country
- Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
- Super Mario Bros. 3
