That's canon, not cannon. I'm not asking if you shoot iron balls out of your skull ;)

So yeah, I got to discussing gaming with someone and it came up that one reason more plot-lite games are fun is because of the potential for headcanoning making them seem more interesting than they might actually be. Other times people do it for funzies, like with Game Theory.

Anyway, let's share gaming headcanons.

Some of mine:

... I always thought Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends were either robots or else some sort of biologically engineered life forms, since they seem to have superhuman endurance and can do impossible things (Tails flying, Knuckles gliding, Sonic's legs becoming wheels.... Sonic surviving in outer space in Sonic 2...). It would be especially ironic if Robotnik created Sonic.

... I don't recall if this was confirmed or just someone's theory, but I always liked the idea that Mario and his cast were just "animated actors" playing out roles.

... On that note, I like the idea of Peach ending up with Luigi instead of Mario.

... Sans is Ness. Okay no he isn't, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention.

... At the risk of sounding fanfiction-y, I always thought there was a thing between Haohmaru and Nakururu (Samurai Shodown).

... I also always thought Marle's pendant in Chrono Trigger was somehow sentient.

Anyway, that's enough out of me. You guys ever have any headcanons?

For some visual novels where the plots have enough depth that they're worth thinking and wondering about the unaddressed details. I only headcanon things that seem plausible, though, not things that are already proven impossible by the established canon.

I can't say I think all that deeply about shallow plots.

All the details about a story that are stated in an official product (in-game or related merch) are canon. Headcanons are ideas fans have regarding details that are never confirmed officially one way or the other or they may be ideas that contradict canon because the fan would rather the plot have gone in a different direction. It's canon that's only in your own head.

Me, too! But don't take my word for it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fYOrRbtv3U#t=55s)

It's pretty obvious that SMB3 is a play, so I'd say it's canon there, and we all know SMB2 (the American game) didn't actually take place. The other games, who knows.

Haohmaru has a girlfriend whose name I forget, but he also has something going on with Charlotte, the two-timing swine.

Nakoruru, meanwhile, is the object of Galford's affections, and she seems to reciprocate them at some points. She at least likes him enough to acknowledge it before she dies at the end of Samurai Showdown II.

This is actual canon, by the way, not headcanon.

There are no shallow plots; only shallow thinkers.
