Color A Dinosaur by far! It isn't even a game and you can't even draw your own dinos even if you wanted too.

Hydlide, Heroes of the Lance, and Color A Dinosaur are probably the worst 3 games on NES, Period. All three are highly UNPLAYABLE, period.

Hydlide has the most annoying song playing the entire game, as well as a dumb ass crap battle system where you have to run into enemies with your sword to kill them.

Heroes of the Lance is such a confusing mess, that it literally takes a decent amount of time just to figure out how to progress in the game. Most of the learning experience involves falling down one of the 3000 pits in the game.

Color A Dinosaur is a retarded ass coloring simulation where you can't choose pretty much anything except a picture, crayon, and design pattern. JUst get a coloring book.

Other awful games include Spy vs Spy, Star Voyager, 10 Yard Fight, and Baseball.

i love this thread.

the only unlicensed games i am considering are the Tengen ones...the rest are just too easy.

some games I didn't see on the list (or even mentioned at all) that are definitely worse than some that ARE on the list.

Wayne Gretzky Hockey (if Silent Service didn't exist, this would probably be the worst NES game)
Infiltrator
Silver Surfer
Swamp Thing
Space Shuttle Project
Super Sprint
Top Gun
Xenophobe (terrible conversion)
The Blues Brothers
Bo Jackson Baseball
Defenders of Dynatron City
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Dragon's Lair
Hoops
Muppet Adventure
Spelunker

Games I disagree with...not to say that i think these are GOOD, they are just not that bad. everything i listed above is completely unplayable:

Bad Street Brawler
Captain Comic
Deadly Towers (bad, but far from the worst)

I'd drop Friday the 13th and add Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde.

Am I the only one who LIKES Friday the 13th?

Tempest

I like it, and I can beat it too.

I also like deadly Towers

Top Gun, Afterburner.. probably other flight sims.

I hated Simons Quest but it might not be a bottom 20 title.

I surprised Robowarrior is on that list. I actually like that game.

Volcanon

I would add Where's Waldo. That game had zero fun.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Karate Kid or Urban Champion yet. Karate Kid is way too difficult, plus horrible controls and gameplay. But for some reason, it doesn't make me miss the dollar I paid for it. Urban Champion gets repetitive and boring pretty fast.

I wouldn't put Friday The 13th or Top Gun in the bottom 20, but they are definitely among the worst I've played.

I posted in here years ago, but I gotta second whoever said Daydreamin' Davey, cause my god, that game sucks.

Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum

I completely agree. Also:

Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge
Home Alone
Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road
M.U.S.C.L.E.
Mickey Mousecapade
Rambo
T&C Surf Designs: Wood & Water Rage

Unpolished, glitchy wastes of money.

Remove Low G Man from honorable mentions. It's a good game and the game was only nominated one time (together with the great Shadow of the Ninja).

Add:

Captain Planet and the Planeteers, this game sucks.

Mickey Mousecapades? YOU BASTARD!

10 Yard Fight
Star Voyager
Baseball
Ikari Warriors
Ikari Warriors 2
Urban Champion
Solar Jetman

Sparkster

No hatred for WWF Wrestlemania? That one is pretty unplayable.

But I'd have to agree that Back to the Future and Dragon's Lair are my most hated NES games.

Shockwave wasn't that bad, it's a puzzle game, and the music is annoying, but all in all, it's decent.

alright lets make this simple.

wheres waldo (this game is a fuck i actually broke the rental back in the day throwing it at a wall) this game is actually so bad it occupies all 10 slots of my list.

Actually I need to play this game. Hydlide even spawned two direct sequels ... This is what you get when you play the concurrent game into a Nintendo NES console! The Nintendo Family Computer also has a (fair? unfair!?) shake of mixed computer titles. It is a little questionable how well done are the computer game versions for Nintendo systems. Since Toshiba has a home computer implementation of the Microsoft MSX-Standard, it is doubtful how good are the games ...

Probably only a criminous mind or a conspiracy guru would cogitate that there would be some benefices in having bad ports across the globe. Imagine someone saying that X home computers had the same game library that the most popular "Family Computer" has ... Or someone could take a look at the profit of the games that companies like ASCII Corp, Toshiba-EMI and other publishers by themselves. Sure there was even the good old news that the MSX consortium was developed to create new contends and after the development of said technology it would be prompt ported to other popular machines ....

Heroes of the Lance is such a confusing mess, that it literally takes a decent amount of time just to figure out how to progress in the game. Most of the learning experience involves falling down one of the 3000 pits in the game.

Is there ANY living 8-bit system that remains without a version of Heroes of the Lance? I think that even some 16-bit machines got a version of this AD&D title ... Sure that without the sequels and books this is not very nice!!!

Anyway, I liked most of the implementations of this game ... Even if I only posses the SEGA Master System version.

The weird is that most people got a computer video game system and dislike the Computer Games that are ported to this system. Even if those titles are not even exclusive games !!!

Edited quotes to reflect what was written about Hydlide.

AD&D and xmen was not that bad

Yes, here's a list for excessively negative people! What are the WORST NES GAMES EVER? I know we can do better than Seanbaby's list.

(Note: This is for U.S.-released games only. If this included Famicom stuff, then it'd be a list of 20 Sachen games. ^_^)

UPDATED

Action 52
AD&D Heroes of the Lance
Bad Street Brawler
Captain Comic
Cheetahmen 2
Cliffhanger
Color a Dinosaur
Deadly Towers
Deathbots
Dynowarz
Fox's Peter Pan & The Pirates
Menace Beach/Sunday Funday
Mission: Cobra
Raid on Bungeling Bay
Robowarrior
Taboo: The Sixth Sense
Tag Team Pro Wrestling
Total Recall
X-Men
Wally Bear and the No! Gang

Honorable Mentions: Low G Man, Dr. Jekyll, Conan.

@CrazyImpMon: It's not a Top 20. It's a Bottom 20. ^_^

hydelide people

Hydlide-I hated this game at first, but once I got the hang of it and figured it out, it wasn't a bad game at all. Give this game an hour or two and you'll dig it.

Fester's Quest-This game will piss you off if you die....the game pretty much has to be beaten on one life. Either way, this game is probably in the top 50 NES games...hardly bottom 20.

Well, my brain hurts thinking of more.... LOL
-Rob

Hylide was total crap. I've beat it.

Those are my 4 most hated.

I also have to add Faria

They say it's a zelda clone but it plays like hydlide

I disagree with most of that list. Especially:

Captain Comic
Color a Dinosaur
Deadly Towers
Robowarrior
Taboo: The Sixth Sense

In place of the above, I would insert:

Hydlide

Sure, it is not recommended to point out articles on the NET. Except that some would reflect or point to different points of view.
For example:
Hydlide (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Hydlide)

Only because a game is from the competitor this does not mean that it was the worst game on the market. Imagine if those that only had a Nintendo system were unable to play the popular franchising at all ... How could a 8-bit system survivor without popular titles !?

Can you count Transformers for famicom. Horrible in so many ways.

A few of my nominations...

Where's Waldo - rather than finding Waldo in a crowd, amounts to finding an indiscernable object in a sea of other indiscernable objects.
Ghostbusters - mind-numbing boredom leading up to one of the worst-controlling levels I've ever played in a game (the staircase scene).
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - as a huge fan of Mark Twain, this is just a huge disappointment. Surely an interesting game could be made of the source material, but instead we get one of the most generic platformers on the system.

I don't have 20 but first on the list will be X-Men. What the fuck went wrong here? Two playable characters and this is what we get? No thanks.

Alot of people are mentioning games that are admittedly bad (like Towers and Low G Man) but are at least playable. The bottom 20 should be reserved for games that are essentially unplayable like Dragon's Lair and Conan.

Icarus Moonsight

And Total Recall... maybe Die Hard as well. :)

I think I'm the only person in this world who likes Action 52... well, the Genesis one at least...

No. You aren't. I will be quite honest, its in my top 10 on Genesis. And that says quite a bit. I'm slowly on my way to a complete set and am sitting somewhere around 200 Genesis games.

I played the NES Action 52, just as awesome as the Genesis one.

Action 52 is definitely not made for this list.

Allstate, you're in good hands.

How did Master Chu & the Drunkard Hu NOT make this list?

Okay, I came upon this thread while searching Magmax, and I have no idea how anyone could say that it sucks. It's awesome.

Oh, and there appears to be a lot of hate for black box titles. I personally like Baseball, even if it is slow. Even 10-Yard Fight has a certain charm.

Where's Exodus: Journey to the Promised Land? This game just gives me a weird feeling as I play it. I have no idea if it's the music or the graphics, it's just not a fun game to play.

Yet I keep playing it. :beaten:

It makes me happy to see some people defending Friday the 13th, yes there were better games, and it was a bit frustrating and easy to get lost, but it really tried. And at the very mention of it, despite not playing it in years, I can still hear some of the music playing in my head. I wonder if I can find my copy...

Fester's Quest as well, the execution could have been a lot better, but it really doesn't deserve the amount of bashing it usually gets, and again, music comment here, if anyone has this cart laying around or an emulator with decently accurate sound, fire it up real quick, you've got to at least love the title screen rendition of the classic theme song...I remember the game over music entertaining me as well.

Silent Service: Alright, not a great game, but again, not terrible either.

X-Men: Yes. Now THAT is a terrible licensed game. Even in younger days when I was totally loving the cartoon series that ran on Fox and I really wanted to like this game, there was just no defending it.

Dr. Chaos: You can't be serious. It's so good. It's kinda like Goonies II but managably smaller and thereby a lot less frustrating...

Defenders of Dynatron City: BLASPHEMY! I loved that one! The character variety, the city to wander through....really, it's good....give it a chance :(

Solar Jetman: I didn't like it much either due to the gravity/thrust mechanics frustrating hell out of me, especially with an item in tow, but I acknowledge that doesn't make it a bad game...I'll give it another chance one day.

Ghostbusters: Yeah...just for the mechanics of the horrible staircase sequence in the NES game, I actually preferred the Atari 2600 version of this, and that's not so great either...

Back to the Future: I played this one a lot, and it annoyed hell out of us. I can definitely understand the hate, and I've even gotten to the final level before...I came to terms with the main game, and once I got the hang of the milkshake throwing I even kinda liked that, but....yeah, definitely deserves the bashing it gets

Exodus: Lol...I remember this showing up on some kinda demo station in a Christian bookstore my dad used to drag us to sometimes, so I played it a little there, can't say I totally hated it, but it's not particularly memorable either. Probably better than the infamous Bible Adventures game, but that one had its own value in laughs, for picking up stacks of four animals as Noah, or that other part....definitely remember a good half hour of hysterical laughter about accidentally chucking baby Moses into the river repeatedly.... :P

But anyway, can we get some hate in this thread for Mission:Impossible? So much wasted potential >< Oh, and some more hate for the TERRIBLE port of Operation Wolf, the Zapper was no good for it because it's a single-shot weapon in a rapid-fire dependent game (and not even a good gun for the two-handed firing that works so well in, say, Time Crisis or House of the Dead), and wtf fun is it supposed to be playing that game with a joypad? :P

ZP3

The worst in my collection has got to be Ghostbusters. I prefer E.T. on the 2600 to this game. The staircase level is infuriating. If only I could take back the hour of my life I spent on this game...

Why in the hell is Robowarrior on this list?? Evidently, I'm not the only one perplexed by this decision:

I love Robowarrior and blew many a day in my childhood on it. Why is it hated on so much?

I disagree with most of that list. Especially:

...
Robowarrior
...

Huh?!?! How come Robowarrior is in that list, it's amega cool game? O_O

I surprised Robowarrior is on that list. I actually like that game.

While I wouldn't lay down my life for the good name of Robowarrior, I do feel its inclusion on the final cut of DP's "Bottom 20 Nintendo NES games" discredits this thread, especially in light of other posters' protests and a complete absence of support for this decision. I wouldn't give half a damn about this old thread's list, by the way, if it wasn't canonized in The Timeless Classics.

I'd definitely not place Deadly Towers in the worst games list, it has some degree of fun to it. Also, why is Cheetahmen II on the list when it wasn't really sold in retail (or in Christian Bookshops in the case of the Wisdom Tree games) and was merely a prototype than a full game.
