So I bought a SNES and a Super Famicom (imported from Japan). Also bought two Super GameBoy2 modules, and linked them with the linkup cable. Tonight I played Gameboy Tetris in two-player mode with a friend, on a pair of large displays with SNES controllers. It was awesome fun, and I can basically die happy now.

I thought this would be about the Mega Drive Tetris but this is good too. The Super Gameboy2 is a good way to play those games, I just don't have one personally. Maybe someday I'll get one.

Is there a true "holy grail" of Tetris, other than the Sega Mega Drive release? I'm thinking along the lines of the least manufactured version of an official Tetris game. Could it be the Nuon version of The Next Tetris? It was only available through mail-order if you bought a Toshiba Nuon Enhanced DVD player. I can't imagine there's a lot of them.

I saw a CIB big box version of Tetris for the PC. thats gotta be one of the less common versions of the game

What type of monitor? LCD? I played on the LCD display, and my friend used my old Sony plasma.
Maybe someday I'll get one.I recommend two. :wink 2:

There's also the third The Grand Master arcade game, so rare that it hasn't even been dumped for MAME last time I checked (the first two have, but not the third).

I appreciate that there is naturally going to be interest in rare games, I so I suppose I should qualify what I meant by "holy grail"...
in this case, I am using the term to refer to the ultimate pleasure of playing what many view as the best version of Tetris (the Gameboy release in head-to-head mode) on big screens c/o the SNES Gameboy2 hardware. Of course quite a few people own original SNES hardware, and of those a smaller (though still not inconsiderable) number have picked up a (Japan-only) Super Gameboy2. Then of course, you have to keep going and get to the number who have bought two of each (not to mention two displays) just to have the pleasure of using the link function to play Tetris.
While not practically difficult to obtain, this is nevertheless a hardware configuration which I guess is fairly rare to encounter in the wild. If another forum user has done this already then I won't be amazed or anything, but at the same time I suppose I might be the first among you to have done so.
At the end of the day the point is simply that it's enormous fun, and I can't imagine a way to play Tetris on classic hardware which I would rather experience.

Someone actually ported this to Nintendo DS: https://gamebrew.org/wiki/Tetris:_The_Grand_Master_3_DS

Am I just crazy or isn't Tengen Tetris for NES the holy grail as far as gameplay goes? Great arcade port with the two player mode. I like the way the backgrounds change in the Mega Drive version but it just seems off. I personally really enjoy the old Windows version, I think it was on the Entertainment Pack V1 for 3.11.
