A top ten list is too small for the Genesis, there's too many good games for it.

yeah especially when you count Mega Drive as well. someone mentioned Shadow Dancer in that thread. I bought it on a whim last week, knowing nothing about it. really love it, one of the better action games on the Gen

I just beat Sonic 2. I was sure I wasnt gonna be able to beat Robotnik but I got him on my second to last life, after burning through 8 lives and then 6 or 7 continues. whole game is easy as hell til the final boss. I still prefer the first game. it seems like the emphasis was more on speed in the second game and its a little harder to appreciate the graphics. still, Casino Night is one of my favorite levels in any video game. there was a ton of excellent parallax scrolling throughout Sonic 2 and generally one of the best looking games of its generation

Making this list is like asking me to choose a favorite child, but I can't imagine a "best of Sega Genesis" list that doesn't include one of the Shining Force games and at least one Puyo Puyo title (whether it be Mean Bean Machine or something else... though since Japan got a Genesis version of Puyo 2 that's probably the best one, since Puyo 1 kinda sucks in all its forms).

Honestly, Sonic is a lot like Mario to me, I enjoy him when I'm playing him but I've never really thought of him as "best of the platform" level content.

Nice, yeah going into the final battle with no rings can make it a death fest. I'll admit, most of my runs through Sonic 2 end at Metropolis Zone Act 3, where the enemy placement suddenly becomes exceptionally trollish. Up until that point it is definitely a breeze, even for me!

from what i remember, you start with zero rings on the Final Egg level regardless of how many you had when you finished the previous stage

That's awesome. So once this list is compiled, it'll be interesting to see the cross over between each forums and how much they differ

looking at a list of every Genesis title, if you take out the sports games, simulation, licensed crap, childrens' games, it basically leaves you with maybe 100-150 actual games that are either shmups, RPGs, platformers, fighting games, beat em ups. That's as far as it goes for North American titles. it does seem like Japan got a lot more interesting games on the Mega Drive. would love to own a Mega Drive at some point

I don't know about that the genesis was more of success for the u.s while in japan a failure. It's really slim for the japanese exclusive that i've enjoyed such as pulseman, gleylancer, alien soldier and mamono hunter yohko.

It really depends on the types of games you enjoy, plenty of games came out only in Japan but never got proper translations, mostly being RPGs or similar titles. Also there's Golden Axe III and shmups like Panorama Cotton. The best exclusive games seem to be pretty rare and expensive.

There's also several North American games that never got released anywhere else. I think Frogger was one of them and Pirates! Gold was another. I still want Scooby-Doo Mystery at some point being a good adventure game, though this also had a Brazilian release as well.

Nobody is mentioning the other exclusives from places like Brazil, Australia, and Europe.

Plus taking out all those games mentioned like sports, licensed, simulation, etc removes a lot of good games as well, sure most licensed games aren't great but plenty still are. Even sports games can be fun on the Genesis, it's one of the few consoles where I would even consider playing sports games, along with the NES, SNES, and maybe Gameboy for some titles.

I've played panorama cotton it's not bad for a rail shooter but it's sprite scaling is rather a mess.Recently, remake of cotton fantastic night dreams came out and it's great and i hope in the future panorama cotton get's the same.I've tried golden axe III as well i remember playing it originally on the sega channel and as a sequel it's not bad.I just never understood why egm gave the game such low scores back then.
