View Full Version : "Alter Egos"... Pick your favorites!
digitalpress

We'll make this as simple as possible.
VOTE.
Vote 1-3 of your favorites, with 1 being your most favorite. You should vote based on how much they made you laugh, how well they stayed in character, and (in my opinion most importantly) how original their idea was.
We'll vote in THIS THREAD for the next 48 hours. On Friday night I'll get together with the mods and with the "public opinion" we'll pick the Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists.
I urge you to NOT give away your identity yet - you should vote and be voted on based on your character. If no one guessed who you were then all the better, that's sure to help your voting! Also please don't vote for yourself. =)

I'm having trouble voting. If this had ended after one day, my votes would have been different. However, I think that certain people went to far to the left or right of what their character *should* have acted like. For example, Hiroshi Yamauchi would have gotten my vote for #1 if it had ended after one day. But after a while, instead of shamelessly plugging Nintendo and defending their every action, it came down to inept name calling. It got less and less entertaining as it went on. Hiroshi: Rules Nintendo (and the Video Game Industry in his own mind) with an Iron Fist. Cool. Hiroshi: Calling people names instead of doing what Nintendo always did with their enemies (ignore them and/or threaten them with lawsuits): bad. He went from my #1 pick to not even on my list.
So that being said... I think that it's tough to vote because so many 'characters' degenerated over the week (this thing went about four days too long) so I'm only going to pick the person I think should be the winner. I can't pick my character, although I think I did a pretty good job. So, my pick is:
Old Man Graves' Ghost. Odd choice to be certain but I dug the character. I thought the person playing it stayed very true to the character. And I enjoyed my interactions with that character.
I'll kick the 2nd place vote to Buster's Revenge. Annoying to the tee, but some funny one liners. 3rd Place is Great Mighty Poo, who should have sung about his shit more then he did, but I still thought it was ok.

Well, here's what dp wrote in the original rules:
"This alter-ego should be video game related (ex: "Ms. Pac-Man")"
He never specified that it had to be video game related, but I'm inclined to think that it was very strongly encouraged. At any rate, I'm going to have to agree with pog on this.

Ace Mcloud here,
and Yes, I'm not "actually" Video game related (ie guts man,pac man ..) but
I was involved with video games (when I reveal my true identity, you will understand). I did give hints to back ground in my introduction.
now for my votes:
1. Dr.Robotnik (he stayed tue to his character, and he gave me one hell of a fight)
2. guts man (he also stayed true to his character)
3. Buster's Revenge ( stayed true to his charcater)
Almost everybody made me laugh, most of the first batch died off fast (Like mighty mangor etc..) but most of them stayed for durration even durring the down time durring the slashdot.com thing.
and even if I don't get any votes I did enjoy the forum.

sadly I can't vote for myself, however:
1) Buster's Revenge - Stayed in character, and seemed to come at just the right time to compliment whatever other people were doing.
2) Rock - I only wish he/she posted more. I truly enjoyed this one and was waiting for some extra stuff...
3) Parappa the Rappa - I really dug the challenge me thread, although I know some people thought he was annoying, I sorta liked it.

I think it just became hard for everybody by the end to keep it all together. I'd agree that the name calling got silly, that's why I didn't vote for the Hiroshi character...it had gone too far afield IMO, but then again, the whole thing was pretty silly if you think about it :) Great fun all the same :)

1. Stanley
2. Buster's Revenge
3. 1-Up
Stanley just played it to a "T" in regards to a "one hit wonder" now washed up video game hero. This person stayed true to character througout the whole event.
Buster was just wrong, but funny as hell. Also, um, "stuck" true to character but wasn't as good as Stanley.
Figuring out third place was hard. Psycho Fox was a possibility, the Moogle was good (though I'm not familiar with Moogles that much) but 1-Up was was refreshing. Making a character out of a paddle. Heh.
Honorable mention goes to Old Man Grave's Ghost whose obsession with his own urn (that made others jump into the fray to try to do SOMETHING to that urn) gave him points. The Atari Jaguar late comer would have been fun if they popped on earlier as they spun every negative Jaguar comment into a positive PR stance. THAT could have been taken far.
As for the competition I think it went on too long. Something like this should be a weekend maximum so everyone's creative juices were still in high gear.

I signed up late, as I didn't have any time available on Friday or over the weekend, but I found that by the time I did start posting, many of the original alter-egos had run out of gas... so I figured I might get some votes! ;)
My vote for #1 is for Buster's Revenge, as uncompromisingly lewd and lascivious as could be without resorting to cheapness (unlike many of the other "alts"). Buster's raps in the "Challange Me" thread went untopped...
I had alot of fun with my alter-ego... so much so, that I am thinking of letting it take over... :D

Same here. I'd rather see a contest in which we try to guess who was who, with prizes awarded for the most correct conjectures.
Is it just me, or are some people taking this contest a little too seriously? I mean, I didn't create a handful of alter egos just so I could win prizes; I did it so I could screw around, recklessly post stupid crap, and perhaps even make some people laugh. And I'd like to think that the rest of the posters were also in it primarily for fun. This popularity contest is just a semi-amusing addendum.

Maybe next time - or hell, this time - there should be a responsibility to go with the "office" of being the winner, like having to continue making at least one appearance a week as that character - and to stay in character for that stuff. LOL That would be amusing, and you'd really have to think about what makes that character tick to keep it going. Post-contest appearances would be limited to OT, BZ, and maybe the Pub if the "winner" (really more of an elected [goofball] official at this point!) is qualified to gain access to that area.
