Daniel Evensen is some type of diplomat by trade, with a specialty of China. However, he's also got an extremely verbose Substack on baseball history.

His best work are channels devoted to sports video games. He's got one for baseball, football, and basketball, called "Baseball Replay Journal, Action Football Sundays, and Basketball In Context". Soccer too on what seems like his main account. He reviews sports games of the 80s, 90s, etc., but he's very fair, critical, and has immense research to back himself up. The guy is a very talented writer and you can tell in the scripts for each short video. High recommend!

I've been tuning into some of his content over the last year, and I like it. Vintage sports games don't often get a lot of respect, but most of us of that age used to play the heck out of them. I definitely am not on board with his appreciation of Bases Loaded, though!

I came across his videos several weeks ago when looking up some info about NBA Jam for the Sega CD, so I ended up getting suggestions for all his channels. Even though I'm not a sports or sports game fan at all I really enjoy his analysis and you can tell he knows his stuff. I enjoy seeing a well written deep dive into the mechanics of a game that I personally wouldn't spend 5 minutes on.

I've got to disagree with him on his NBA Jam rankings though. I'll gladly trade a short halftime load for a game that is superior in every other aspect to the cart versions.
