I was digging through some old folders the other day and came across the form letter that was attached to the $5 rebate coupon that was mailed out after the Nintendo lawsuit was settled. Does anyone know if these things have been scanned and uploaded anywhere? If not I was going to scan mine and try to find somewhere to share it for people that may be interested.

How did Nintendo go about mailing these things out anyway, in so far as contact info and determining who was due one? From what I understand it was anyone that had bought a NES cart within a certain time frame, but I don't recall there ever being a way for the customer to contact them to obtain one. I assumed the only reason they had my address in the first place was because of my Nintendo Power subscription.

I imagine it was going out to people who sent in their warranty card with their names and addresses on it. Nintendo didn't care if the coupons got to people they'd price-gouged, they were only doing that as a PR stunt to look less evil. I think I might have received one, but by that time I'd already stopped giving Nintendo my money and supported Atari, NEC, and Sega instead. I doubt I still have it nowadays.

You mean I've been sitting on this gold mine the entire time? I could have already retired by now.

They're asking $80, it hasn't sold for that much. At least not yet.

Also, that link is broken. The hyperlink isn't working properly.

Oh, damn it. I keep forgetting, whatever script Nz has running auto-corrects ebay links to be affiliate links for DP. And it does so very poorly, breaking the link 9 times out of 10.

Realizing that none of those latter companies make consoles anymore and only one of them is still making games at all. Funny and sad to think.

I've always thought that I was cursed. I bought a Gizmondo at US launch. Also the Nokia N-Gage QD. Bought the Jaguar and Dreamcast shortly after launch. I have a bunch of oddities that hit the market and sank immediately after I adopted them. Xavix GamePort, Tapwave Zodiac, Nuon, GameWave, and the list goes on. Either I just love underdog consoles or I'm legitimately cursed.

What Nintendo lawsuit? There's been so many.

Sure, it was only a $5 coupon, but that's over twelve bucks when adjusted for inflation!

Monopolistic business practices in the NES days. Licensing rules designed to prohibit third-parties from supporting both the NES and competing consoles.

The one they lost. That should narrow it way down.
