The Satellite 4-in-1 is not compatible with games that require memory expansion cartridges.

Hi, I was the one that traded him the Saturn that this came with and I don't think what he has is technically a 4-in-1 (feel free to call me an ignorant slut at any time). I played imports on it before but it didn't work EVERY time (and it didn't save games at all as far as I know). I think that a new CR2032 (battery) for the Saturn itself might help smooth things out a bit, but I'm not even sure. If anyone knows or can point him to a site that will help out I'd appreciate it also :D.

This may be of no help to you, but I whole heartedly recommend the switched region modification. Doesn't do anything for backups, only plays originals. But it does turn any US (or jp unit for that matter) into a full blown dual region unit. Keeps your cart slot free for memory or save carts
I tried to sell one on Ebay once, but they pulled my auction, saying it violated their "modchip" policy. I e-mailed them back an angry letter accusing them of hypocrisy for allowing the sale of import games, and import devices, but banning "switches". It didn't help. :/

From what I've read that's not an easy mod to do. A backup enabling mod is mostly just an insertion chip with two quick wires to solder, but the region mod is much more difficult.

It's a 6 wire mod, with two traces to cut. I find the hardest part is mounting the switch. I do it for others, for $$ or trade. Shipping can add up though, for to and from. It's a great mod though. It's reliable too. When it's done, depending on how the switch is thrown, it is literally wired the same as a JP or an NA console. Nifty!

Cool. I really do think that's better than using a converter cart. More reliable. I'm about to tackle the backup mod myself, and it will be my first mod. Wish me luck.
