View Full Version : Cable Question (I want PS2 broadband!)

This question has come up because I am in a fantasy football league that drafts tomorrow, and up until now the two league owners who live in Florida and California have done their picks over yahoo messenger, it enabled them to "draft live" with us over on the east coast. I used to have 56k dialup, so all I did was move my computer down to the game room and plug it into the phone.

This year, I have cable broadband, so I told them they would have to do the old fashioned telephone draft, because i don't have cable broadband in the basement. My buddy says that if i have digital cable TV down there (which I do), then that's the same as my broadband hookup. I'm not sure if that's true, when they installed the cable in the upstairs office for the computer, they drilled through the wall and installed a cable which goes into my modem and into my computer.

Do any of you guys have a quick answer on this? I know the only way to truly find out is to lug my whole computer setup downstairs and hook it to the cable for my TV. My buddy says even if it's two separate cables, its still the same coaxial or something. Does he have his head up his ass?

I actually hope he's right; I'd love to go online with my PS2!!!

Any feedback is much appreciated! :rocker:

when comcast (then At&t) installed broadband at my house all they did was take the existing cable line, which was 2 coaxials stuck together and pull it apart, one went into the cable box one went into the cable modem.

They use to put in a seperate line for cable modems, but now it goes through the same line throughout the house. I just moved and the new install is on the line going into the house and I can use any cable outlet in the house for the modem. Oh by the way I have COX Cable.

Looks like I'm late to the partyhere, but...

I've got Road Runner, and when they installed it here, they put a splitter on our existing cable line and ran it to the modem. Judging by what everyone has said here, it looks like that's the way it's done.

WideOpenWest (http://www.wideopenwest.com) uses the same cable for both TV and internet, as does Adelphia. My hunch is that your buddy is correct.

I'm watching Sportscenter and typing this message on my computer right now. Using the same coaxial connection, just with a splitter as someone already mentioned. So it can be done. As long as you have a cable jack, you should be able to connect.
