Well, I got to try this game out, as my friend rented it, and I am impressed. The game is damn fast, that much is clear from the beginning. The course designs are really crazy at times, and can be a bit tough to get a hold on. I can also say the first few times you play the car will seem really sensitive, and go flying all over the place.

Bad points-
Where's my create a track you promised me, Sega?
The music lacks the oomph of the N64 game, as do the sound effects in general. Not bad, but different.

Good points
create a car
story mode
Bio Rex's theme song :band:

So whatcha other people think?

Have'nt had much time to sink into this, but it was worth changing my mind and buying full price. The graphics are jaw dropping. Some of the courses are crazy enough to make motion senstive people go screaming from the room. :) I enjoy hearing the remixs of the classic Big Blue and other track music. Once controls were mapped better on the controller I've had no problem tearing my way through.

It only sucks that so much of the hidden stuff requires a trip to the arcades to find the arcade version -- there are NO arcades left anywhere near me that would have this game. MAYBE Dave and Busters will get it next month. I can only hope. Otherwise the game has some REALLY steep requirements to unlock the hidden stuff.

I probaly play more PC games then console games, but there is NO way a computer could handle this game! The frame rate and speeding is perfect, with narry a slow down or a tear.

Well, I'm sure that save data will pop up online sooner or later. I'm crossing my fingers that these two arcades in detroit will get AX...one has TONS of driving games and would probably get this, the other, probably not so well a chance.

I'm picturing an F-Zero AX data ferry service across the country LOL

I also have much love for this game. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

I've been loving this game for about a month now. Not much else I can say about it other than what's been said already.

AFAIK, you don't need to make a trip to the arcade to play AX. Everything in GX is unlockable at home, but the AX stuff is pretty damn hard to open up. Of course, getting to play AX would be nice....

Hopefully Mayhem responds here, as he's pretty much got the game totally opened up.

I've got the AX tracks and 3 of the AX racers. I'm sorely tempted, seeing as I own an AR, to use the code to unlock the others. Some story races on very hard will test your very soul and life! They are just... //watch out for the dents in the wall through throwing your controller! :P :o

Still beating all cups on all difficulties wasn't TOO bad at least... no harder in general that FZX was in that respect.

Beat standard 4 cups on Master = get 5 AX tracks unlocked
Buy 5 AX tracks = get AX cup
Win AX cup on any difficulty = get 6th AX track (Mute City)
Beat any story mode on very hard = get a particular AX racer
Beat all stories any hardness = get Dark Schneider vehicle
Beat all stories on hard = get Magic Seagull (10th AX racer)

But is it better than Quantum Redshift? :D

I don't think I'll ever beat any of the cups on Hard, let alone master. Holy shit, from everything I've read it's just god damn impossible. I've only had the game for a couple days, but I know master is simply impossible. No other way to say it, impossible.

have you guys all heard about the super speed trick where you use L and R alternately to achieve massive speeds?

I am snatching this game when I get the chance. \^_^/

Yeah, they call it snaking. I believe you hit L+left, then R+right, and repeat that at a certain pace to speed up. I also have heard of people making custom cars that can literally fly if they go off track.

Master is actually as hard as Expert, except that you have less continues. Try putting together a good custom car-its supposed to be easier. Other good choices include the Red Gazelle and Twin Norita for their outright speed.

I picked it up with my b-day money. Although its EXTREMLY hard I found it pretty fun.

Fire Stingray is my car... always has been, always will be. Got me through all the difficulties without too much problem. Just a case of learning the tracks, where to boost and how not to fall off in many different ways (yes I'm talking about YOU Mute City II!).

Which is why basically I play time trial now, with some retracing of story mode to see if I can do any that I can't etc...

Speaking of Story Mode, has anyone finished the third one (I think), the one after the desert race, where you get grabbed and thrown into a race by this old man? That is one NASTY track, and I just can't stay in first despite taking the jumps. Augh! I actually threw the controller for the first time in five years. :)

I have been reading alot of positive things about this game, and I went to Gamestop to look around a bit earlier, and was just about to grab it, but thought better of it instead, I am not a big fan of spending $50 on a game, I will instead wait on the price to drop.

How bad is the difficulty, is it bad enough to really piss you off?

The game is tough, but once you get used to the controls and become more familiar with the track designs, it gets easier. Recommended title.

Thanks uber.

My way of thinking is, not many "good" driving/racing games come out, so I may as well get the good ones that release, this year, all I can see on the horizon is F-Zero GX, and Gran Turismo 4. I will be buying both, I am getting GT4 on release date though, I will be 100% in a week or two. Guaranteed.

Took me a couple hours today to unlock the Diamond cup, I had serious difficulty with beating Emerald on Standard... usually more so because of falling off the track too many times rather than losing position.

As of right now, I'm 8 chapters deep into story mode on normal, all cups beaten on standard, Ruby beaten on expert. No AX racers yet, but I did score a few parts.

While this game is tough, perseverance pays off. Honing your skill to a fine point is what this game's all about.

Oh yeah, and it's an excellent game all-around. Gets my highest recommendation. :rocker:

After reading your comments (thanks, guys) as well as several reviews (vive metacritic.net!!!), I think I will pick up the game at work on either Thursday or Friday (it's payday this Thursday). Hopefully, my employer's warehouse will have copies available (otherwise, my order will simply be reserved till they receive their next shipment).

So, can anyone beat the first story chapter on hard, and how the crap are you supposed to be able to finish in 60 seconds?

I still need help on Story Mode Chapter 3..... O_O

Just did that today, actually. Set up for max speed. Work on picking up all of the capsules on the left on your first lap, all of the right one on the second, and anything left on the last. Hit every since boost plate, and use your boost whenever poosible. I thought the same thing as you, but constant practice paid off. Good Luck.

I still need help on Story Mode Chapter 3.....

Make sure to set up for max speed. Sure, everyone else will all be faster, but making use of all the jump plates will give you the edge. Point the nose of the craft slightly downward when you jump. Definitely make sure you hit the last jump plate, and launch the craft over the Z-turn. This is prolly the second hardest level-the other GP is tougher. x_x Once again, though, it's all about practing and honing your skill.

Man, I dunno why people think this game is so hard...I've blasted through GP races. Story Mode is a bit tricky though...I unlocked Princia from chapter 2, but chapter 1s very hard was giving me a coronary, due to the fact that although it isn't that hard, if you mess up once, you lost. But the car you win in it is supposed to friggin rule...ah, the pain.

If you are having trouble in GP mode, just beat sapphire and emerald on novice, then combine the parts you win from those with the Aqua Goose body to make the Frost Lynx G4...that car is pretty good for GP races.

Edit: I finally beat chapter 1...the trick is to get your path all laid out, and then not screw up. I kept screwing up for a while, then I realized that my path was messed up, cuz I would miss the last thingie...so a quick amend to it, and bam, I got it. Rainbow Pheonix is my reward, and its a sweeeeeet ride. Princia kinda sucks, though. She has no traction whatsoever.

Tomorrow, on to finishing the master class! Oh, god, what am I getting myself into.

well, a month and a half later and I finally finished the master class. The AX tracks are LOOOOOOONG.
I also unlocked a few new AX racers, but dammit, I needs me the Bunny Flash.

Man, I should get back into this game and keep unlocking stuff. Just kinda dropped it for *gasp* school.

Looks like it's staying in the backseat too... so much work to do today.

Well I took a break of like a month and a half from it because i was just getting too busy, and it was frustrating me too much to get anything done on it. So maybe taking some time off from it wasn't a bad idea.
Case in point-I pick the game back up from the shelf, pop it in, and beat the master class sapphire, emerald, and diamond cups without any trouble at all. I didn't expect it to be so damn easy now.
Nor did I expect that the Bunny Flash was so damn easy to unlock. Oh my God...that may have been easier then getting Spark Moon.

I hear with an action replay you can unlock custom car's parts which are otherwise ungettable (such as chrono symphony, el dorado, and some others), as well as Sounds of Mute City for a soundtrack. I expect button codes to eventually pop up though, so...its no big loss. Plus Sounds of Mute City kinda sucks, if the song rip on f-mode is any indication.
