It occurs to me that it seems like a long time since someone last released a stand-alone casino/gambling game for a home system. The most sophisticated one that comes to mind is Vegas Stakes for the SNES.

I'm curious, is there any particular game in this genre that greatly surpasses all others?

Super Ceasar Palace (SNES) is a good one too,. Not sophisticated has Vegas Stakes but still a good one (the slots are tough in this one).

Family Games Compedium (PSX) has a CD full of casino games. But it was only released in the PAL regions.

Casino Kid on the NES is probably my favorite casino game. I never did track down the sequel, but I can assume that it's probably another good one to look out for.

Caesar's Palace also came out for the Playstation. Actually it came out three times for the PSX:

Caesar’s Palace
Caesar’s Palace II
Caesar’s Palace 2000

Casino for the 2600. i just played it for a few seconds, and i thnk all it is is two player blackjack. its pretty funny to think that people payed fifty bucks for that game back in the day, when you could have easily paid 2.00(at the most) for a deck of cards and played it.
