Favorite Game Music Piece?

Commodore Games had the best music, in my opinion. For example, the intro of Zak Mckracken adn the Alien Mindbenders and Maniac Mansion. Nemesis Warlock and both The Last Ninja games.
It's been almost a year since I listened to a *.SID :embarrassed:

I second this. Music from The Last Ninja games is AWESOME. Can't really "get" the gameplay, especially of the first one, but the music is among the best ever.

A while back I read a comment from a European who felt that while Japanese game music was alright, European/UK area music had "more ideas." I'd say that's not fair to Japanese game music, but by the same token we tend to sell European game music short - and SIDtunes, for that matter. The Last Ninja stuff and the new tunes for Ghouls 'n Ghosts would go in my "experimental music" section only in that they do things that little, manufacturer-stunted chip never intended them to do, and it's amazing. Better than the Yamaha chip in the Genesis pulls off at times!

in kirby superstars for the snes, the song thats played when you beat the final game (where you have to fight max or whatever his name is) and the credits are rolling. i was like 6 or 7 when i beat that game and ill admit that i cried when they played that song. :bawling:

I loved the ending theme from Final Fantasy VI. It was a nice medly consisting of the various characters's themes. Very good piece, about 10 minutes long or so, the sheet music is 30 pages long :D

I like all the music in Blaster Master for NES. Viewpoint and Truxton on Genesis has some great music as well.

I'm a huge Zelda music fan (I realized recently that Koji Kondo's music forms a constant whole throughout the series), but if I had to choose one piece only, I'd say the dungeon theme in Link's Adventure.

The Katamari soundtracks come close too...

IMO the Jap/Eu opening music to Sonic CD is vastly superior to Sonic Boom- then again, that's just one opinion. :)

As for my favourite piece of music full stop... it's a cliche... but I'm gonna go with 'Still Alive'. :p

The Oblivion and Morrowind soundtracks by Jeremy Soule
The opening song in Legend of Mana is great. I'll sometimes start a game just to hear the song.
And lastly we have the Persona 3 soundtrack. It's great J-Pop, which is not a contradiction after all.

The most memorable music pieces for me have been:

The music from Shadow of the Beast and the intro music to Leander, both by Psygnosis for the Amiga.

Most of the music from the Atari Jaguar CD game Battlemorph. It always fit the setting perfectly.

The music from the beginning of Rygar from the NES version.

The majority of music from the Halo series. Very mood setting and atmospheric.

I'm sure that there's loads of other soundtracks that I've really enjoyed in the past, but for some reason I'm drawing a blank at the moment. I either can't remember what game the music came from or I can't recall specifics enough to pull it out of long-term memory.
