View Full Version : "Alter Ego" Contest... who were YOU?
digitalpress

The contest is officially over and our winners announced:
GOLD: "Stanley"
SILVER: "Hiroshi Yamauchi"
BRONZE: "El Suave"
Congrats to the winners, who we shall soon find the hidden identities of... but to EVERYONE who played, WELL PLAYED! That was great fun to watch:
It's time for the official unmasking. Who were you? How did you choose your character? How did you think it went and what would you do differently next time?
You KNOW me. My characters are sort of "forum secrets" that only newbies wouldn't recognize. Let's start the unveiling of everyone else now.

This may come as a shock, especially to those who giessed who I was, but I, Kaine23, was Stanley. 8-)

Y'know, sometimes people forget about the classic arcade characters. I went with everybodys' favorite gazette slinging bicyclist, the Amazing Paperboy. It seemed appropiate enough. He's a game character and a classic one at that. Besides, he was pretty funny... even after getting sideswiped by cars on the road.
There you have it; PC Kwaj was the Amazing Paperboy.

Admins, can you delete both these accounts? I can't reregister ever under these emails again, and who knows....I may need to use them at some later time! One of the addy's wasn't even MINE LOL

You chose greatness!! I was El Suave...
I chose El Suave because I was playing Outlaw Golf at the time...and he's my favorite character in that game. He has great lines (Look at my crotch, that is me you smell!, you have chosen greatness etc.), and in that game, when you start playing poorly, you can beat your caddy up, so I thought it would be fun to play a lousy Latin Lover with bad lines, raging hormones, and a wicked violent streak :)
I felt I played it fairly well for the most part (although when I suggested Outlaw Bowling, I was sure I'd blown my cover, those of you who have been around for a long time know how obsessive I am about Bowling video games).
When it went into the second, and third days, I began to lose my edge and lost focus on my goal (to nail every damn female or moogle on the board) and got caught up in the Hiroshi and Stanley soap opera, I could have played that better :) It also became a lot harder for me, as a very shy person, to be as bold and brazen as I was, even as an alter ego it was just a very difficult thing for me to do.
Overall, it was a blast, and I can't wait to find out who some of the others were...
Kaine23 = Stanley?? Noooooooo really?????? [/sarcasm]
Good job everyone :)

Who were you? My Alter Ego was(is) Ace Mcloud.
How did you choose your character?
Ace is actually my Alter ego that I came up during
the 80's when I first played Gunship (thought that most of you would get that hint) on my PC. when ever I got a high score I didn't put down my name but I would use Ace Mcloud. But that wasn't the end of Ace, He later showed up again in the high score of most of Jaguar games also.
He also eventionaly showed up in some past issues of the AVC's Atari zone newsletter where he wrote an article about gaming tips(I did reveal my self later on). He still shows up from time to time when I play video games.
(I have thought of using Laserman as alter ego which actually based on the game I made for the ti-99/4a (later on I made a keystone kappers hack based on the character for the 2600(which was posted on AA,some people might have figured that out right away)
How did you think it went and what would you do differently next time?
seeing how limted my post was I think I did pretty good (the only battle I had was with robotnik which was toward the end of the forum days)
what I would do differnetly is prob post more asking for people to battle me.
(I came to the aid of others in this one)

Well, I guess it's scooterb23 who gets the unfortunate pleasure of finding out I wasn't a woman. Really now, everyone picked every female past or present on the boards for my alter ego.

I was "The Troll". I thought it would be cool to rekindle everyone's memories of -=Jet=-, TheAveng and Blake. I would have had a lot more fun with it, but we got slashdotted and i couldn't get on for an entire day (as you well know), and then I had school and work the next two days. Ah, well, such is life.

Since no one either could or wanted to guess who I was, I think I did a pretty good job of keeping my true identity hidden. So okay, no more suspense. Tell me, does this sound familiar?
STAY AWAY FROM MY URN, DAMN YOU!!! DAMN YOU ALL!!!
Yep, it is I who was Old Man Graves' Ghost. :) Why that particular character? I've always loved the 2600 game Haunted House, and when I was a kid I thought the ghost in the game was the coolest looking character I'd ever seen. So, when it came time for this, I recall running a list of alter-egos I would have chosen through my head, but all of them seemed too obvious. Then I remembered Old Man Graves' Ghost, and... here we are.
I was also his foil, I Stole The Urn, but I guess that's pretty obvious by now.

MWAHAHAHA! Nintendo is the most dominant force in the Videogame industry today!!!
It is I who sported the moniker of Hiroshi Yamauchi. :P I picked him because I wanted to be different and not pick a videogame character. I enjoyed playing the part, but I did start to lose my wit after the first couple of days. I decided to try and do what no one would expect of him, and it looks like that wasn't the greatest idea. Still, though, lots of fun. I'm glad most of you thought I did a good job. :)
I also jumped in the forum a few times as Mr. Nutz. I think it's the funniest character name ever, and it gave me an excuse to show off that silly picture of the squirrel and his yabbos.
Wow, Scooter! I am in complete amazement. I thought it was Butta all along...especially after that bukkake statement. LOL

I was Rock, RAWK, and Johnny Turbo. Yes, all three of them.
If I'd known that Rock was popular, I'd probably have posted more as him. As it was, I decided that Rock was going nowhere, so I went with a completely stupid Alter Ego for my own amusement on the second day. Then, upon realizing that nobody else was going to do it, I started up Johnny Turbo.

the four-five days thing was unavoidable from the slashdot but did make things hard, somehow I went from being an 'actor' with a Napoleon complex to being "The littlest gay Moogle". I really don't know what happened there. A few of my RL friends got a laugh from it, thankfully.

My wife would tell you that my alter ego isn't much of an act at all - she occasionally called me Mr. Gropey, which isn't a side of myself that I've let out of the bag here at ALL, not even in the pub. Truth be told, if the CGE webcam thread wasn't enough proof, I do have a bit of an eye for the ladies, i.e. if you're a lady, I'm looking at you.

Jag4Ever was a usenet poster several years ago who posted quite a bit of Jaguar advocacy rhetoric which was pretty hard to swallow. Many of my initial posts were direct copy/pastes of his posts to usenet. Once I got some replies, I found myself channeling the spirit of Jag4Ever, and it was actually quite fun.
I was kind of surprised to see that PDF was Buster.. I had Buster tagged as NE146, but I realize now that NE1 is way too lackadaisical to have gotten so involved. (IE: Prize lot did not contain "ch1x w1f d1x") LOL

Well, I wanted a character with a distinctive speech pattern. Not easy, considering most classic characters don't talk. (Except for Mayhem's occassional %$#% This time around!). So, I found a character from an obscure series of arcade games and, using the way he spelled his name as a launchpad, ran with it.
Th'ts ryte! I iz Kapt'n Krooz'r ov the starsh'p Kozmik Krooz'r! (I iz starr ov Wacko an' Kozmik Krooz'r! Famouz iz me!
Buuuuuuut, I just didn't have the time to reazlly play him up that much, nor was he a character I was happy with. After the game had started, I realized I had messed up because one of the Bluth characters would've been fun. Especially Commander Borf of Space Ace.
