I've been a video game fan my whole life. Over the past year or so, I haven't had much time to spend on my hobby. Last summer we moved into a new home, and even after a year it doesn't seem like we're fully unpacked. On top of that, my wife and I have a 20 month old son, which as you parents out there know, tends to eat up most of your spare time.
Last week I turned 30. About a month prior to that, my wife told me to "stay out of the shed." Our backyard has a work "shed" that is 14 feet x 32 feet. The prior home owners used it as a wood working area. We still haven't emptied it in the last year. My wife told me that my birthday present was out there, and to not go look. I didn't.
Finally, my birthday rolled around. When we went out to the shed, I could not believe my eyes. My wife had spent the past month (and a lot of money) converting the old, stuffy shed into my very own ARCADE!
Of course, all the extra wood and junk which had been stored in the shed had been removed. The formerly wooden floor was covered with black and white checkered tile, giving the room a "vintage diner" look. The walls were painted white. But that stuff was just the beginning.
My wife cleaned and moved the two cabinets (Shinobi and Bucky O'Hare) and the bar-sized dart board out to the arcade. The new things she added were: an air hockey table (commercial grade!), a bumper pool table, a small dinner table, a small bar, three bar stools (great for playing video games on), and a small dorm-sized fridge! On top of that, my mom bought me a microwave, and my dad bought me a real slot machine!
My 20 month old son loves the room. He loves the colors and sounds of the video games, and loves to play Shinobi already.
For me, it's certainly put the fire back in me to finish my MAME cabinet and my MP3 Jukebox, for sure!
I have a very cool wife.
