It's been a long time since I've seen any video game commercials that I really liked and thought was quite good. Recently, Namco has used several that have had me laughing in fits.

Anyone recall their Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball one from a few months ago? It showed six teenaged boys, from all different backgrounds and cultures, playing the game. The scene would change back and forth from pictures of the game and the boys reacting to it, like opening their mouths wide, cocking their heads, or opening their eyes wide. Perfect. :D

Then there are the current ones for Soul Calibur II. Namco did a commercial for each version of the game. In each one, you're seeing the Point of View from the unique charcter in that game as a older guy talks to him and tries to convience him to change his weapon or get something else. It's the same guy in each of them, but what happens is a little differnet. After they show a short video of the game and talk about the unique charcter for that version.

My favorite HAS to be the GameCube one. Link is the unique charcter in this one, and the guy says, basicaly, to Link (and I know I'm paraphrasing here) --

"That sword of yours is not going to cut it. Here, take this one!"

Link looks at his sword.

WHACK!

(offered sword cut in two)

(look of surprise on the guy's face)

"Uh, okay, I guess that one will do just fine"

LOL :P

Oh man! If only they had done a commerical for Xenosaga. :-D

Dead or Alive Volleyball was by Tecmo, wasn't it?

You are correct...and with that, half of his thread goes down the toilet. :P

Oops! That's what I get for writing a note late at night. :embarrassed:

Okay, just change that to RECENT game commercials. :D

The Dead to Rights spot didn't have me jumping out of my seat and grabbing a copy.

They did. It featured a delivery boy walking into the office of one Dr. Matsuda. Finding the doctor gone, he notices a strange relic on a desk. He then removes a Zohar-shaped pendant from a chain around his neck (How'd he get that?) and places the object on the relic. Lights shoot out from everywhere, and we see a rapid montage of footage from the game: spaceships, robots, lasers, sexbots, and that gawking megane-ko, Shion. The screen then reads "Let the saga take you."

It wasn't that memorable of an ad, but its use of elements from the game was interesting.

I've found recently that Video Game commercials focus way too much on trying to be witty, and nowhere near enough on the game itself.

I would just like to point out that most of Nintendo's commercials suck. I see them at work every day, and only occasionally do I get a chuckle out of them. Warioware was pretty good, and the Mario Golf commercials are kind of funny, but for the most part, I wish Nintendo would change their advertising company.

The most annoying part of all this is that it is practically the only way Nintendo is willing to spend its advertising dollar. They are only interested in the most viewers per advertising dollar, leaving interesting promotional opportunities (like CGE) untouched.

I really liked Nintendo's commercial for Paper Mario a few years back.
