I didn't have a colecovision back in the day, and I didn't have any intention of picking one up--until I saw a screenshot for the colecovision version of Frontline at the videogame museum (WARNING: POSSIBLE MASSIVE POPUP INVASION UPON CLICKING THIS LINK):

I was a big Frontline fan in the arcades, but the Atari 2600 conversion was a real stinker. So can anybody comment on the Colecovision version? Is it good? In particular, is the aiming independent of your movement (a key feature of the arcade version)?

Just what I need...another reason to get another console.

While I can't specifically remember about the aiming thing, I do remembe the graphics being better on the Colecovision, and it being a much better port of the arcade. However, I have the Super Action Controllers, and I believe that the game was designed with them in mind, rather than the regular ones. So, you'll probably want to pick them up too. But, if you don't have a Colecvision already, you should buy one anyways. It's a great system with very few bad games.

Oh yeah.. Tomorrow's Heroes has the manual here:

And it looks like there are 2 buttons used to control the direction that you're aiming.

The ColecoVision version uses the Super Action Controllers, so aiming is independent of moving. All 4 buttons are used.

The graphics are good, although the scrolling is a bit choppy. Sound is good. It looks somewhat different than the arcade version, and there are some things missing (such as the boulder), but some extra things seem to be in it- I don't recall the barbed wire or the machine gun in the final area.

Overall, it's a good game, and a good arcade translation.
