It was about 5 years ago to this day, I was about 14 and had about 50 nes games, I still owned an nes when everyone had long traded theirs in for a next gen system. I frequently bought used nes games in bargain bins when I wanted a new game. Anyways, I suppose I just started the collecting scene and heard a lot of talk about Dragon Warrior. ( I didn't even know it was a series at the time) I placed my first bid on e-bay for a "sealed" complete copy. When it arrived in the mail I was pretty stolked, I asked my good buddy if I should open it or keep it sealed. (no horizontal line, Didn't even look factory sealed..but what did I know) After a while I opened it..no explorers handbook or maps, (could've fooled me)..I was a happy camper, and my feedback became one :-) ...Funny to look back on that stuff...what are all your newbie e-bay experiences/purchases, or simply your newbie purchases if e-bay doesn't apply.

Castlevania III, NES. I don't even remember what I paid but it was the average rate for ebay NES carts, considering shipping. I have since become addicted to getting stuff in the mail.

Wow, this is really frigg'n emberassing, but I was just to happy to get my ebay account in the first place (you know the feeling you have your first week or month, where you just buy stuff like crazy!). Anyhoo, my first winning was a lot of 3 little plastic ocarinas for like a buck seventy five. But after that I won 2 complete SNES games (within minutes of the ocarinas :D).

Used panties, I mean Sentinel for the 2600.
Seriously, I won the item because I was being bad. It was a long time ago so don't hate me. I was bidding up items because I was insanely board working in Lake Tahoe finishing a game (our team had quit and I had to bring in a fire fighting team to our Tahoe office, but that is a different story). Nothing to do, I discovered EBay. I started playing Russian roulette. Well I was having so much fun that I shot myself in the head, or rather I bought Sentinel (crappy label and all) for like 28.99. I wanted it so I paid for it and have been buying responsibly ever since.

Whew,it hasn't been that long but..man this is hard to remember.
The first thing I won off Ebay was a boxed Gamecom..
I had never went on Ebay before....
Something fell on the Gamecom I had and cracked the outer glass screen.
I was pissed and wanted another Gamecom quick.
So a friend won me one on Ebay..Then he won me a boxed Liko Video Game System..((A Famicom knockoff.......right?
Ok I was hooked and I didn't even do the bidding..
Then next thing I know my Jaguar stops working...Oh man..Ebay again..
So my wife bids on a boxed Jaguar and some other goodies at her moms house using Web TV.......(Horribly slow)
I go to her moms house a few minutes before the auction ends..and she's in a bidding war for the Jaguar....
She'd never bidded before and was going nuts with excitement and anger..the Web TV was dragging and she kept bidding higher..Trying to outbid the other bidder...
She wins the auction for around $80.00 or so...
We were happy..,.we were running around in excitement....This Ebay Bidding thing was cool....It was like a a fight to the end..I really wanted this Jaguar now..I felt like someone stole an item out of my shopping cart at a store when she was outbid....
Then when she won it It felt like she cut someone off in traffic..LOL LOL for good reason..
I/we were really hooked now..
We go buy a new top of the line computer and both get an Ebay account..
My old computer was a fossil and needed to meet the Garbage can..
The first thing" I" won was two non working Microvisions 1 boxed 1 loose with some loose carts...$15.00
The seller tried to fix them, they had good screens..but he couldn't get them to work..
I took them apart and found out the connectors were bent two far back..
I repaired both of them and had my first Ebay Score..buy/purchace /win..Woo,Woo
...I was so scared when I worked on these..I kept thinking the screens were going to pop or something..They were so old looking.
I wanted one of these for awhile too...
Now $1000.00s of dollars later...I've really bought a lot of Video Games off Ebay..
Even though I had a rathar large collection before Ebay existed..I don't know where I would be without Ebay..What my collection would look like now.
Somethings just can't be found without Ebay..

I actually went to my file cabinet and pulled out my eBay file and this was the first purchase that started it all...Some good memories.
A few weeks before this purchase, I was at Goodwill and found a bunch of Atari 2600 games. I looked around town for weeks and could not find an Atari anywhere. I was forced to turn to the internet.
This was before I even started collecting. I had nothing. No video games since the '80's.
So my first ebay deal was:
An Atari 7800 with 13 games,
came with a 7800 joystick and a Wico and 13 commons for $27.00 purchased on 8/3/99

Some very interseting responces, E-bay was pretty damn exciting for me too at first, although I think my only laughable purchase was that Dragon Warrior

Four years ago I remember buying two things on my first eBay day. A Riva TNT2 video card which was probably a little bit overpriced but I needed the older PCI version that no one was selling anymore. And I also got a complete boxed Atari Jaguar system for $30 which was sweet, still works, and got me positive on eBay. About 200 buys and sales and not one problem yet on eBay.

The first thing I ever bought off eBay was a copy of Dragon Quest 4 for the Famicom back in 1997. And I paid way too much too. Go figure.

3-4 years ago...
Complete copy of Impossamole for the TG-16 for $2.00
I got incessantly harrassed by some jagoff who was mad I got that game at that price...until I threatened to report him to eBay...
I've only used eBay one other time since. A pair of Super Action Controllers for the Colecovision for $7.

I remember it well, it was the Dr. Who RPG bookset complete, something I had always heard about but never found until eBay. I had to go through a few accounts though because I was an idiot my first times around. Now I know how to bid and sell responsibly.

My first eBay purchase was a Chun-Li action figure from the G.I. Joe Street fighter line. I have no idea why I bought that ugly thing, or why I still own it.

Haha, it all becomes so obvious now why you can sell just about anything with so many bidders out there with 0 feedback :P

I think mine was a bootleg Goonies soundtrack CD (ah, the days before Napster or Kaazaa or whatever) made by "The Nostalgic Icon Preservation League". Since you STILL can't get an official Goonies soundtrack CD here in the U.S., I still have it. This one did have a nice plus, admittedly - most of the score by Dave Grusin was included, which wasn't on the actual soundtrack.
The first thing I ever sold was a friend's Saturn with Radiant Silvergun (which was in near-mint condition) - he was moving and needed some cash, and he was going to sell it at a pawn shop. He said to me "I can probably sell it at a pawn shop for $25", and I replied "Let me try something before you do that. I'll put it on eBay." We ended up clearing $230 for the set.
The thing is, the Saturn was damaged in the mail, and the guy sent it back, but he didn't care about the system. He was just happy he got Radiant Silvergun! As he put it, getting a Saturn was easy. Getting Radiant Silvergun - that's hard.

I have a legit cd copy of the Goonies soundtrack. I got it on eBay. Japanese import.
I think my first purchase was a CD-R of a Black Sabbath bootleg from 1987 for around $20. What the hell was I thinking, paying this much for CD-R's... :embarrassed:
Great show though.

That would be a really great 3DO lot. Included the original system (perfect), over 40 games, and 12 controllers (1st and 3rd party versions) including that one arcade stick that can take a SNES controller as the 2nd player. Very cool!

You know I've been E-baying for about five years now and I have yet to buy any gaming equipment through E-bay. Oh, I've bought an Atari 1200XL and an Atari 600 XL along with some disk drvies but not game carts, disks or consoles. All of my gaming purchases have been via thrifting, Gameing stores or CGE. My first E-bay purchase? A training cd called "Mastering C++".

Quite honestly, I have no idea what my first purchase was on eBay. I registered back in college to make a little money on the side, and happened to buy things along the way.
I'm almost 100% sure that it was some kind of game though! :)

My first eBay purchase was a Tristessa 12" single by Smashing Pumpkins on Sub Pop (1990). 1 of 5000 copies pressed. And here's the feedback I received from that transaction:
Very Fast Payment. Good Communication. Recommend A +++++
Ah, old eBay feedback is always good for an ego boost ;)

I've only just started using E-bay last month. And I won my first item last week:
Transparent yellow DC VMU - $44 AUS.
Though it's unlikely to be the last, as I think I have reached the limit of what second hand stores can provide me.
