Today while browsing through EB I saw a nicely packaged little handheld system behind the counter that I did not really recognize. It was a NeoGeo Color Pocket system with 4 games selling for around $70. The guy at the counter, who knows me because of my constant visits saw me eying it and offered to make me a great deal if I brought in a couple of games for a trade in. Now I don't remember what the games were so.....Does this sound like a good deal? I mean I was just kinda interested because I never thought that I would see a less popular much less discontinued system in EB. Also If I do pick it up what games would you recommend?

I would say it really depends on the games because, the neo geo pocket beleave it or not has been in stores lately out of nowhere, so if the games are not that great I would not get it, also snk vs capcom I would say is the best game in my opinion for the system.

The EB deal doesn't include boxes for the games. However, the games included with that pack are all pretty much spectacular, as are most of the games on the console. Check out my reviews on the site for some of the best. Oh, and buy it....yeah, that's what I forgot.

:hmm:
There is no such thing as a PAL neo geo pocket game. It s a HANDHELD system. The PAL/NTSC designation applies to TV's, not handhelds.
Apparently SNK had a lot of carts made but hadn't printed the boxes or instructions when they decided to pull the NGPC.
Go to www.neo-geo.com for more info.

I saw TWO packages at my local EB -- the system and SIX games for about $75, and 4 games for about $40 (I think those prices are right). Both bundles seem like a good deal. I saw games like Samurai Showdown, Metal Slug, and others. I'm just not into action and fighting games. Still, it's a nice way for SNK Playmore to get rid of extra stock.

Well, not for me. :) I find fighting games borring, action games don't do much for me either, and I have Pac-Man allready. :) I mostly play strategy, simulation, adventure, shooters, and RPG's. So not much reason for me to buy either one of these bundles. :D

Again, I note that if you don't mind waiting for the shipping costs, the same package is $10 cheaper at Gamestop's site.
You can't miss with this system, I got one from maxlords in a trade and as soon as I got a copy of Card Fighter Clash, it was over. I've logged in 15 hours on it in 4 days and have no sign of slowing down yet. This is -with- all my time in Soul Calibur II and my eBaying routine, plus a 30+ hour a week job.
...I'm addicted.

I don't think I'm the only person here who thinks this but...
Best. Handheld. EVER.
The NGPC is definately a great system, and those packages I wish I'd bought. Samurai Showdown, the Metal Slugs, SNK vs. Capcom, and Cardfighter's Clash (Best card game EVER, screw that pansey Pokemon TCG) are definately choice games, good for anyone who likes action and strategy. Plus there are good conversions of Puyo Puyo and Bust-a-Move, along with a lot of other fun games if you're into importing games. But don't play games like Melon-Chan's Growth Diary unless you can truly read Japanese. Learn from my mistakes, my friend.
But I'm curious, in the DP guide it said that Last Blade was a Japan-only title. Was it actually released in the US other than these packages?

No. The US Last Blade games were made up, but not released before the plug was pulled on the NGPC. They also fall into the no-packaging-was-printed category. So, unless you buy from one of the many sellers on eBay that has a piece of the new-unpackaged NGPC game stock, then this particular package is the only option you've got.

Thanks. I picked up Last Blade at CGE, and I was confused. It wasn't listed in the US section, and it had the same subtitle as the (J) game. Plus, it was by a vendor who was selling a lot of NGPC games, all without boxes. So I had no idea if it was a (J) title or what.

The games in the EB packages are the titles produced by SNK right before they pulled out of North America. However, no boxes were printed.
Then again, at this point any Joe Ripoff can gather together a bunch of used carts and claim newness, I guess....

Last Blade came out in the UK, I have a copy :)
For the record, there are 39 UK releases for the handheld... and thankfully now I own all of them, complete too 8-)
Less came out in the US, though some, as mentioned made it as far as being made onto cart (Faselei, Pocket Reversi etc) but no packaging or manuals were done for them. You can pick them up loose in a "US release label" casing if you look on eBay, though apart from the label on the cart being slightly different, they are no different to the UK releases.

Well, kinda. The new unboxed ones don't have ratings....most of 'em at least. They also have a really ugly colored bar across the top of them that says things like "Neo Geo Pocket" or "Color Pocket," amongst other things. The games themselves....well, there exactly the same....

I used to be a manager at a used game store and someone brought this in, and we didn't take Neo Geo stuff because it it didn't sell well,so I bought it off the guy for around....$100-125, I think
Clear NGPC boxed, nike new and has an EB sticker on it
2 rechargeable battery packs and a worm light for NGPC (boxed)
a Shock N Rock rechargeable batery pack for NGPC
And 6 games all complete mints with the little game cases too.
Metal Slug 1st mission
Metal Slug 2nd Mission
Match of the Millennium
Card Fighters Clash
Dive Alert
Dark Arms

Faselei and Pocket Reversi were released in the UK in snap, in fact ALL UK releases were in snap. I'm not sure if Faselei or Pocket Reversi were solely released in snap in Japan, or whether they may have also been in cardboard. To my knowledge, no boxes or manuals were done for the US releases of those two games, hence you'll only find them "loose".
Faselei, Last blade, Cotton, Neo Baccarat, Pocket reversi, Picture puzzle, Dynamite slugger and Cool boarders pocket was released in europe (and asia) but non of them was officially released in the US. However the US versions of Faselei and Last blade was very cloe to being released, carts where produced and both games (along with Dynamite slugger) can be seen in the last US ngpc ad (with mock up boxes even).
Now the contents of SNK's old HK warehouses have surfaced on ebay, etc. Lots of it are euro / asian carts but also the US carts of Faselei and Last blade, you can tell on the serial number and the fact that all us games have an ESRB rating. Speaking of the ESRB rating, do a search on their homepage and you will find the us version of Dynamite slugger (http://www.esrb.org/search_results.asp?key=dynamite+slugger&type=game&x=0&y=0) (no carts for that one have surfaced though)
Check out this NGPC games faq, it probably the most complete list of releases, demo carts, etc: http://www.rattlebrain.com/~opaopa/pokefaq.html
I'm not sure if Faselei or Pocket Reversi were solely released in snap in Japan, or whether they may have also been in cardboard.
Nope they used cardboard boxes. However some of SNK's later best collection (budget) rereleases used clamshell cases (might come from some of those european games that was sent back).

if Faselei was never released why is it on the dp guide?? on neo-geo.com in the collection pics, theres a guy who seems to have a boxed Faselei

As mentioned above it was released in europe and japan. It's just that the carts intended for the us release have surfaced reasently (same with Last blade).
Also since all european releases used the nice plastic clamshell cases and never went cardboard collectors tend to focus on the european releases first.

It seems all the variations only appear when a company's in trouble :P
Thank god for struggling companies, then?
Oh and about King vs. Nakokuru...
DANG, some of those old Samurai Spirits characters look muddy..! I don't think SNK would be quite the same without either of those character, but I like King better myself.
