I just ordered Ikaruga from Bestbuy.com for 19.99 with free shipping!! I didn't think that I would find this game for a decent price anywhere.

And, if you can find it in store, and you have a $5 coupon from the Gamer's gift card, you can get it for $15!! The coupon is located on the back of the gamer gift cards located near the video game section at Best Buy. Buy a gift card for yourself, and you can use the coupon and gift card next time you come in the store. Hope this helps some of you!!

Great buy on a really great shooter! Almost makes me wish I didn't have it already.

And I'm having cheesy kids TV flashbacks from your avatar..."It's the G-news, with Gary Gnu!" if I remember correctly. Was this from "New Zoo Review" or some other bad influence on my youth?

Great game, but I also should have waited, considering how much I play it these days. Yet another reason not to listen to the overly eager, suggestive voices of game store employees...

Game store employee (in an echoing otherworldly voice): "Pre-order now before it's too late...we're only getting two copies on release day!"

Feh...

Also, I think Gary Gnu was on Electric Company, if my former two or three-year-old self remembers correctly....

That game is STILL kicking my ass.

I finally got good at the 'wheel of death' boss on Stage 3, and now Stage 4's boss continues to work over me. I can't beat it -- I just try to not to lose too many ships before the 99 seconds run out. :)

Think I reached the final boss but not enough play time yet. I like how more play time equals more credits. :)

Is this that game that was mentioned in the past week as something that might later be costly to find as it will be an overlooked gem? What system, anyways?

Wednesday I am going to pick up FFTA, the new IRON MAIDEN, and who knows what else...

Finally the price dropped for this great game. :) Thanks for the great tip.

The last game I bought for $50 was Zelda WW. All the other games I got for $15 to $25, and they are all first rate. Can't wait to get my hands on Ikaruga now. :)

Hey, Gary Gnu!
I just wanted to take a second to greet you and "officially" welcome you to the Retrogaming Roundtable forums! We've got a great bunch of people here of all ages and all backgrounds, who collect for and play all kinds of systems so you're sure to find someone you've got something in common with.

I see you've already stopped into our "Introduce Yourself" thread, so I'll skip that bit :) However, I do have to say how much I love the word "gnu". We shall make BEE-YOO-TIFUL music together! Look forward to seeing you around in the future!

Like the man said, "Game ON!"

Let me warn all of you, this game is TOUGH.

I thought Contra: Shattered Solider was going to be the hardest game I had played this year -- nothing doing!

It took about six hours of game play to get past the infamous 'flaming wheel of death' (AKA the end boss of Stage 3) and another hour of game play to try to avoid the boss of Stage 4 for 99 seconds, as I can't find a way to beat him, so I could get into Stage 5. I've run into the end boss once, but nowhere close to finishing the game on Easy mode yet.

The English version of the game was rushed -- not all the text was translated, some was taken out, most of the text is VERY hard to read, and the robot voice is VERY hard to understand in most areas.

However, you have here a wonderfull shooter with great graphics (I espeicly LOVE the big fireballs and explosions you get when a boss goes BOOM!), very good music, easy controls, and a major level of challenge that can be adjusted (sad to say, only down to a certain point :) )

Also, for each hour of game play you log, you earn a credit (up a point, I think it's 8). That will help get you into the game further. There's a pratice mode and a demo mode, but in order to use either one on a stage you have to get to that stage on ONE credit. I finally did it for Stage 3, but good luck doing it for Stage 4!

Assuming you don't destroy your controller throwing it aganist the wall ( ;) ) this game will keep your GC going for a long time. I paid $35 for my copy and consider it worth every penny.

With the age of shooters coming to a end (R-Type Final and Gradius V being the only other ones coming out soon), you should get this even if you're not a huge shooter fan (I'm not). Just be warned about the difficulty. :P

Thanks for all of the positive remarks and greetings!!! I have been hanging around here for a while, but find it hard to contribute considering my limited knowledge of past games. In fact, I am even more limited in my knowledge of current games. :) I just love playing games and I am a cheapskate when it comes to purchasing new games, so I am glad that this little tidbit of info seems to have helped out many of you.

Even though it has been answered above, Gary Gnu was on the Great Space Coaster. It was on before I went to school every morning, and it has just stuck with me ever since. There were some other characters such as Baxter, Knock Knock, Goriddles, but Gary was my favorite. Where have all the good puppets gone... :(

Anyways, after reading the responses, I can't wait to get this game!!

Aaaargh! I was hoping that futureshop.ca (best buy's Canadian sister chain) would also have an equivalent deal on Ikaruga, but no. It's still full price! :(

Usually, Future Shop tends to follow Best Buy's deals.

Well, I went to my local BB to get one with the coupon, and they're all out. The guy that was in that section said that it's becoming a greatest hits title... somehow I find that hard to believe. I ordered online and it's now backordered until next week. It damn well better ship! I've been waiting for a pricedrop for ages.

:D

FYI- I went to Circuit City and used their computer to go to the Best Buy website, printed the BB page that listed Ikaruga, printed it off........and went to the register and received a price match for it!! Woo-Hoo.

Oh, yeah, a CCity employee gave me the idea to do it!

Is anyone still able to get one at this price and want to help me out? BB.com just refunded my money to my CC and says it will be filled within a month, but I'm not going to hold my breath...

Thanks,
Drew

Mine got backordered too (bestbuy.com), I hope I'll get it in three weeks. Yesterday I saw it at Gamestop for $40, but no way that I pick it up for that price.

Instead, I picked up ready to Rumble 2 for the PS2 for $15, and Sly Cooper for $20 (the latter ONLY because Joe Lieberman and Herb Kohl recommended it, of course.) :)

I just want to let everyone know that Ikaruga is back in stock at Bestbuy.com. It seems as if a couple of you had this item backordered, so check your order status. For the others who haven't purchased it yet,

BUY THIS GAME!!!!

IT ROCKS!!! :rocker:

Sorry for the short and biased review, but I love shooters, and this is one is just kicking my ass!!! Finally, a challenge in video games in the modern age...

Ikaruga was alright, but I don't think it was one of the best shooters to come out lately. Fun game, but as someone else said here, it's simple once you figure out when to change colors.

You're right, the order status doesn't say anymore "backordered", but "in process being fulfilled." Good news indeed.

SIMPLE? What world are YOU living on? :D

I STILL lose 5 ships trying to beat the 'flaming wheel of death' in Stage 3 and can't beat the boss for Stage 4! LOL

Same experience here until I got better. Play on easy mode (which ain't "easy" and ....

Stage 3 wheel -- turn dark, follow a red shots link around the circle, hiding between the also-moving barriers , keep shooting upwards. Pretty soon there won't be too many links left and the beams will start. Just hide inside the moving barriers and the wheel boss will time out or you'll defeat it.

Stage 4 boss -- donut of death? I haven't beaten it either, but if you have enough lives and learn where to go in order not to be crushed too many times, it will also time out and progress you to level 5.

I actually just loaded up Ikaruga a few nights ago for the first time in months and had one heck of a great night relearning and playing it. Great shooter.

Heh, I originally put this on my PayPal debit card, but the balance is too low now so I had to call and change it. The guy helping me out was asking why so many people were ordering it now, and couldn't understand how a $20 game could be any good. He also didn't understand the concept of a 2d shooter. He did sound interested though, so maybe he'll give it a try.
