I'm looking for any game that is regarded as a clone of the original Legend of Zelda for any system that is 16 bit or less. I'm already aware of the following:
Golden Axe Warrior-SMS
Neutopia-TG 16
Spiritual Warfare-NES
Any info about any others that may be out there would be appreciated.
TIA

Star Tropics?(NES)
??
I'd certainly say Golden Axe Warrior, but StarTropics seems a stretch.

Don't forget Neutopia II!
Faria and and Crystalis may fall under that description as well, but neither game is as close to Zelda as the Neutopias were.

I've never played it, but I've heard "Crusader Of Centy" is quite Zelda-like

Are we talking about the same game Ed? I just double checked my copy, and it is a dead on clone of the original Zelda. I put question marks because I couldn't remember if that was the correct game or not. Well to be fair, I need to spend a little more time with it, but my first impressions were that this was a Zelda game, it has the same heart/power meter, it has a similar weapon system, and some of the level design is just like some Zelda levels. An overworld, with dungeons/castles, surely thats typical of Zelda type games. I always thought Nintendo published Star Tropics to feed our need for more Zelda, since it was going to be a little while until Link to the Past was to come out.

The two Star Tropics games are both pretty Zelda-like. They're both pretty good, not to mention cheap and common. If you don't already have them, you should keep your eyes open. Crusader of Centy feels and looks like Zelda 3 for SNES. I really liked it myself. It's reasonably hard to find though, and might cost you $20 for a nice copy.

I hate to bump such an old topic but I was interested in hearing if anyone had some more Zelda clones to list. MY WTB list continues to expand! LOL

Hydlide on the NES seems to really want to be a Zelda clone but it is a pretty horrid game and not even close to being anywhere close to being as good as a LoZ1 on the NES.

Hydlide is actually older than Zelda 1 anyways. The NES version is the only one to make it to the US, but it came out on scores of systems in Japan.
Mind you, it's still a lousy game now. LOL
