I don't know what it was about that game. For as soon as I first played it I knew I found my favorite RPG of all time. But that wasn't all,it never is with that game. The controversary that erupted when Aeris was murdered in the game. Was that crazy or what, I can not imagine the effort someone would go through to find a Game Shark code to bring her back. But the music was so amazing plus the CGI. The mini bosses and the SO CALLED AMERICAN BOSSES. There is so much too that game like the Arcade at The Gold Saucer, plus the Battle Arena, Turtle Paradise Flyers I swear if I didn't have the strategy guide I would of missed so much. If your stuck please feel free to PM me if you just want to post your feelings about the game, feel free to do so. There maybe better games out there but what other RPG has spawned to much personal feelings towards what is just a figure in a game.
Like Clouds and Aeris appearance in FFT. Then the lastest rumour which no one can seem to kill. That FF7 is coming back but only to The Playstation Portable. I tried to contact EA/Squaire when this rumour first appeared.
To this date severial emails and phone calls to the companies offices who have given no reply. All I can add to this is one word...WHY?
If it is false why hasn't EA/Squaire said so, frankly I don't know.

I'm getting thru it- little by little, bit by bit, using an online guide. Im afraid I may miss something if I go solo. I think I'll get a guidebook so it's here when I need it.
I'm not a RPG-er by nature, but I heard so much about FF7 I thought I'd try it. Frankly, I'm still waiting to be impressed. I know it was great for its time when released but it shows its age to me, & I've seen so much else in other games. I don't like all that cutesy stuff (like the Mog game in the Gold Saucer arcade- what a waste of time!) & I never was a fan of turn-based combat. What bugs me most is that no matter what I do or how I fight, there's probably a better way, as documented in the guide(s). I'm never sure I'm doing it "right". I HATE dealing w/ Materia too.
I like the minigames, & the fact the game's so big/long, but that may also be a strike against it, as I don't have much time to play as I used to- so when I DO have time, every minute counts.

Oh, it's a nice enough game, but it is still surpassed by others. (Chrono Trigger, for example.) I still don't like the way that the immaculately crafted atmosphere of Midgar is unceremoniously chucked out the window early in the game. It also shows definite signs of being rushed towards the end.

And dangit, my only thought during the whole Aeris-death scene was, "Bah, she'll be back." It is no remarkable achievement in video game drama.

(By the way, the Gameshark code is not such a remarkable achievement. The programmers just left a fancy debug mode in the game. Someone would have found it sooner or later.)

While I can sympathize with those who are sick of hearing about the game, I'm quite fond of Final Fantasy VII. Granted, the character models look really primitive now and some elements are indeed rushed (why are Yuffie and Vincent optional characters?), but it's still a fun, captivating RPG. The characters are iconic yet fairly complex, the Materia system makes for a lot of fun customization, and there are enough minigames and distractions to keep the flow from feeling too linear. That chocobo farm was pretty boring, though.

And for some reason, I really dig the character design. I probably wouldn't own Ehrgeiz if it wasn't for the inclusion of a half-dozen cast members from Final Fantasy VII.

FF7 is memorable because it was the first. They were trying something new and they spent time giving it good character development and story. I enjoyed it a lot and I still come back to it from time to time. I like to play it with the cool SB Soundfonts they've created for the PC version - makes it sound fairly good IMO.

I still think it's more of an interactive story than a game, though. When it all comes down to it, you might as well be pressing a sequence of buttons on a DVD controller to make the movie go forward. The Weapon things and other side-quests might as well be the extra features they put on the second disc.

Final Fantasy 7 was the first RPG i really played, and thanks to it i am a big rpg fan now. Some months ago i even started playing it again (i rarely do this)!
But FF8 was so bad... but i still have the playing cards around here ^_-

The reason Yuffie is an optional becomes obvious when you decide to do Wutai and run in to The Turks without your materia. It is really one of my favorite parts of the game. The chase for Yuffie, your capture, the finding of the very last Turtle Paradise posters. There is so much I could get in to but won't simply because it would take too long.

I was wondering has anyone out there have ever come across a Chocobo
breeders guide that actually works for you? I tried everything I've ever come across and nothing works. So that is where my Game Shark comes in handy, on another message board I was surprised to find that many did not know of the Traveler in Kalm in disc 3, and of his need for 3 treasures. What you may not know is this. That there are Game Shark codes that cover each treasure and that each code gives you 99 of each item. So you might be saying So What, heres the what. When you give The Traveler the item that gives you the master summoning and magic materia. As long as you give the same item over and over again you will get more of the same. But codes or not The Traveler is the only way I found that garentees you a Gold Chocobo!

the guides always worked for me as to raising a cocobo. you just need to feed it the right stuff. but before you feed it save outside the barn and then go in and feed the birds. if you don't get the desired results simply reset the game and do it again. it should work. besides, if i remember correctly the gold cocobo you get from the traveler sucks compared to ones you would be able to raise yourself.

I just finished this game, for the first time, about a week ago. And let me say it's definitely got my favourite moment in all video-gamedom right now.

The bitchslap fight between Tifa and Scarlett.

I don't think I stopped laughing for a good ten minutes after that one.

Aeris was murdered in the game.

 I havent played this game yet and I realize it's been out for a long time but DAMN. Everytime I read anything about this game, Aeris' death is mentioned. Usually if it's something I read once I can forget it, but not after 300 times. Well, Ill try and act suprised when it happens.

I was playing through it a couple of months ago, and having a jolly good time, then my game save was erased.

I then played again and got near to where my game save was erased (the start of the second disc). I must say that the crappy translation was ruining it. I would even go so far as to say it was worse that Final Fantasy II.

I think the problem with getting a Gold Chocobo is that to get results, it may be necessary to race your chocobos until they are Rank S. And chocobo racing gets very boring after a while.

I am also fairly sure that most of the translation bugs were fixed in the PC version. Unfortunately, they also got rid of the W-Item duplication bug, and while it is not impossible to reach the debug room (you need a converted Dexdrive save to do it), it doesn't work properly - you can't exit a section once you've entered it.

i played through ff7 this summer and i have to say that i'm not to impressed story wise. as for gameplay, this game hits all marks but the story lacked a lot of originality using plenty of lame plot devices and one sided characters. Xenogears on the other hand *tries not to scream like a 13 yr old n sync fan* thats an rpg for ya!

But no one can disagree the storyline doesn't hold you, and what's up with the ending CGI?. I am referring to the one at the very end of the game. Where you see Red13 and what you can assume are his 2 kids. Then you get the last shot of Midgar, abandoned and over grown. The only quote I ever heard about this is from the games creator, and he only said "Not all games have a happy ending" and he refused to go in to detail. Maybe what Squaire did was when they created there first RPG for the 32 bit era. Was a game that would out live the system it premired on and they certainly have.

Yes, the plot is rather confusing. There is a FAQ at GameFAQs which does a good job of trying to explain everything.

I've fond memories of FFVII - it was one of the first games I bought my PS1 (I rarely buy consoles on release) and I played it through first time for 35 hours and then soon after restarted and did all the chocobo stuff and picked up Knights of the Round etc.

I'm tempted to go back to it at some point, as I'm nearly done with FFX but I fear that time may not have been too kind to the game.

It was a good game, however...after playing more of the FF's for the system I started to realize maybe it wasn't as good anymore? Sure, it was a mile stone....the CG was incredible....the polygons (Knights of the Round...yech....) not so incredible. Music (the shinra themes especially) were incredible.

I know lots of people welled up when the whole 'issue with aerith happened' but I start to think that maybe I was the one who didn't. I didn't care for her, she wasn't that special to me....there were other female characters that were developed more IMO than aerith was in later games. I needed a box of kleenex for the ends of FFX and FF IX. Maybe that's why I'm hyped up for the release of X-2 like a 5 year old on mt. dew.

Good story, but I don't have 40+ hours to beat it four times to gain every single aspect of it. Maybe it was too much? I'll put 80 hours into playing a game once if I can understand all of it.

PS I got the gold chocobo with the strat. guides hints.

Oh, and one last thing: YUFFIE MADE FF7 WHAT IT IS. :P
