I just bought Eternal Darkness at work last week and I'm in love with this game! It's the first game I've played in quite a while that makes me lose track of time.

And the music... well, the sound quality is such that it sounds great even on my cheap bedroom TV.

Only thing: I'm making sure to not play this game during weeknight cos I'm afraid I won't get enough sleep for work!

And I have yet to experience everything from the game (I have seen the sanity meter but haven't seen any insane effects yet; nor have i have found everything to make magick in the game).

If the game continues that way, it may well be the most engrossing game I've ever played.

I'm really glad that people are still discovering this game. The game is so common you can't give it away, yet I still can't get anybody over the phone to try it out.

An excellent game. I can attest to what Fluke said about no-one checking it out. It's sad, really. A game as engrossing as ED should be played by a wider audience.

Congrats on your new addiction. ;)

One of my favorite games for any of the newer systems. And it only gets better the farther you get. Enjoy.

Ah yes, bought it the day it came out, beat it twice and got a tshirt (preorder bonus :D). I recently bought it again but I sold it to a friend for roughly what I paid for it. Just didn't do anything ot me the 3rd time around, but that's not really a complaint, as most games don't even get that far :D.

I'll finish it today the 4th time.
I must say that this game is freaking fantastic
I even say that it has the best story and atmosphere of all games of the past 5 years.

It is a fabulous game, still one of the best GameCube titles.

I mentioned in a thread awhile back when the game came out that it had one of the few genuine "scares" that have had any effect on me. The scene where you look in the bath tub (I won't say when it happens or what happens) ... for some reason it caused one of my eyes to water. I thought it was some weird fluke, so I tried it again the next day and the same thing happened!

I've played the game through twice but I'd do it again, it's great fun and unlike a lot of the survival horror games, you never find yourself running back and forth through the same areas trying to figure out what you're supposed to be doing next.

I think I remember someone posting here, not to play the game with the lights off because it was that wild. I've wanted to get this game but for some reason I haven't. You guys have convinced me that I really need to check this out.....

It's really too bad Gamecube's reputation is as a Kiddie machine because this game on any other console would've sold a *tonne* I think. It's just a fantastic experience - and still one of my fav 'Cube games.

What was cool about the insantify effects was that, even though you know they're coming, they still manage to trick you now and again. And that bathroom bit was fantastic :)

Besides adding in another vote of praise for the game....

Some of the insanity effects are just WICKED. Like the one where you think you're walking on the cealing of a room. Or the one where suddenly the game acts like your controller is uplugged! I'm not ashamed to admit the first time that happened I jumped out of my chair, dashed for the TV, and furiously checked my connection. How stupid I felt when I realized that had happened. :embarrassed:

Oh, my personal favorite is the Windows 'Blue Screen of Death'. LOL

Yet, I still haven't beat the game when I first bought it when it came out. :embarrassed:

This is still my favorite GameCube game. If you haven't read anything about it prior to playing, the insanity stuff is wild.

My only complaint is the spell system. The whole rune mixing thing was confusing at first & a bit tedious.

One if the more literary game I have played. The story is amazingly well fleshed out and the game play is some the best for the genre. The use of magic and the insanity effect were so well done it never detracted from the overall arch of the plot. It is a shame Nintendo did not push this game harder.

Absolutely astonishing game. I loved the remake of RE for the cube, but this game was just incredible. RE can't touch it.

It's so hard to explain why it's good. The play mechanics aren't that great and it's really not too challenging... but the story alone just kicks all kinds of ass, enough so to get me to finish it. That's saying a lot these days.

It's really too bad Gamecube's reputation is as a Kiddie machine because this game on any other console would've sold a *ton* I think.

The problem was, Nintendo toted this as their game to get them out of that niche.

Anyhow, it's a wonderful game. Gruesomely terrifying when you get done playing with the side characters and go back to the main girl (yesh, I haven't played since it came out) and your sanity meter is low and things start to....happen. It's very cool how you progressively go through time in the same spaces with different characters and the buildings are falling apart (my favorite was the temple with the amazon chick and the indy rip off)

Don't forget: beat it three times through using the different colors (ruins?) and get the "bonus" ending the final time.

I have played and beat the game and thought it was great. However, I didnt' think the ending was too hot. Is there a better ending? And if so what is it?

A note for those who haven't yet picked up Eternal Darkness: Gamestop is selling it for $14.99, brand new. At that price, there's no reason for GameCube owners to avoid this one.
