What is this analog RGB they speak of?

Most modern FPMs (indeed the one I own does) allow both a digital connection and an analog one (of RGB standard). In other words, 2 sockets. The analog one would be equivalent to the current way to connect a PC to a monitor using the 9 pin trapezoid cable. Digital connections, if you've seen them, are completely different.

It's great for me, I can have my 2.6Ghz P4 connected digitally to the FPM and also have my 486 that I use for Star Commander transfers (enables the putting of C64 emulator images onto real floppy discs and vice versa) on the analog at the same time without having to unplug or move anything.

No, those won't work.

Just because a monitor has a analog RGB input, doesn't mean it can handle 15khz horizontal scanning frequencies.

Commodore 1084's are still the best way to go, and the cheapest.

If you have tons of cash to burn, and you know somebody that is really good at making custom RGB cables, then get a 33 inch Wells-Gardner arcade monitor.

There is a certain, old Wells Gardner Arcade Monitor that works perfectly in RGB with game systems, if you can get the right cables made for it. The only thing is, these monitors were made to go inside arcade cabinets, and they don't come encased in anything.

When you get it out of the box, you see the wires and all the electronics in the back.

At some point in time, I hope to get one of these behemoths, and it will be my primary display device for all my RGB-able systems. This would be the ultimate display device for: TurboGrafx-16, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Super Nintendo, Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn, Sony Playstation, Neo-Geo and Sega 32X.

I'm having trouble finding a commodore 1084 in my area. Dammit.

Hrm... which of the commodore monitors is the best? I am looking at this one for comparison:

That thing looks pretty big...

Another question, would an old TI99 monitor work? I could actually see myself finding one of those. This area is TI99 HEAVY.

I'm not sure about that commodore.

I saw a Commodore at a thrift, that looked alot like my 1084 for only 5 bucks, and it looked like it would work in RGB for my game systems, but I came home and did research on that model, and it wouldn't have worked.

go here and ask questions

I lucked out and got an Amiga 500 with a 1084 monitor and all the hookups recently for $10 Cdn. I can tell you that it's an AMAZING monitor for games....very nice, if a bit small. Well worth it though, and it even has a built in speaker :) It's RGB and AV compatible!

Take the number of times the C1084 has been recommended and add one more to it. Awesome monitor. In fact, I'm using one on a project right now... pictures to come this weekend.

For the last two guys that responded to this post, do you guys actually have the Custom RGB cables for your game systems to be hooked up to the RGB monitor?

If not, I know a guy who could hook you up.

Whoops! I take it back! I have a Commodore 2002 monitor. My bad! I've also heard that the 1084 has some color problems due to age sometimes which the 2002 doesn't get, but I'm not relaly clear on if that's true or not.

The 2002 is GREAT though!
