Don't make these up. If you do any selling on eBay at all I'm sure you won't need to. Just post an item for sale and then email the bidder. After you don't hear anything for almost a month file a NPB and TA DA instant sob story.

What people won't say to get out of paying for an item. <sheesh>

I am sorry about this item, my brother (XXXXXXXXX) is a cancer patient and he is the one that bid on it, he really still wants it but he was rushed back into hospital on Monday 8th for surgery.

I will try to make the payment this week, don't get me wrong please dont leave bad feedback for him, I just need to wait till I get paid and then I will send it to you.As you can see by his ebay feedback , this is not something he would do normally.

Sorry for all of this but our family is quite worried about his condition

I've got way more bad buyer stories then seller..

My worst as a seller always has to do with 2600's..

"I WANT A F$%$ING REFUND!! I PLUGGED THIS POS IN THREW THE LINE IN AND I GET NOTHING!!! NOTHING!!!"
of course then I tell them that a switch box or RCA>coax adapter is needed and the system runs on channel 3-4. Sometimes I will get afte that,
"WTF?!?! You mean this system can't go threw the A/V input!! I want my money back!"
At this point I explain what, "Item sold as-is in working condition" means.

THEN there are the people who get a system and 4 months later email you saying that the system sucks and they would like a refund.. This is where I hit the BLOCK button.

I no longer have the specific emails but 'death in the family' is always a popular one. I've heard it at least twice selling, to which I just reply I need the money to keep my grandpa on life support.

I had your typical "family emergency" emails, and then there was one that told me they were "moving to Ireland, and would contact me once they got there". I got an email from them a month later, telling me that they had just sent payment. Three weeks go by, and nothing. I email them back, telling them that I'm re-listing since I never got their payment, which they were cool with. Nearly a year later, the M.O. shows up in the mail-in surpisingly good condition-dated a year prior, close to when the auction originally ended. Weird. Very Weird.

Not Ebay related, but I've had customers return items to the store because "My baby needs diapers" and "I need medicine for my kids". x_x

Oobgram, I'm curious about that story you just told. What was the item? Did you have the option to pay by PayPal or anything faster then a Money Order? And how much was the MO for? It sounds like for once it was'nt the buyer's fault -- the mail system screwed up between Ireland and here and the mail got 'lost' for a year. That HAS happened. Espeicly when mailing to Europe. :D

What did you do with the MO? I mean, it's allready paid for, no way to return the money to the buyer.....I guess in your shoes I would have tried to contact the original buyer and see what they wanted done with it. Failing that, I would have cashed it. It's still good, and if you can't reach the buyer, why let the money go to waste?

Huh, this might be a good start to a 'What would you do?' thread..... :)

Sometimes it takes me a while to pay when the seller does not accept paypal because I tend to procrastinate little things. At least when that happens I'm man enough to say "I apologize, I procrastinated it."

The auction was for a boxed set of Final Fantasy VII figures. IIRC it went for $50. I couldn't (and still can't) take Paypal. The MO finally ended up lost somewhere at my house, or trashed, since it had expired. It was only good for a certain amount of time. I no longer had the buyer's email, and had no way of looking it up.

I once got a sega gen, that was dirtier (htf do you spell that) than expected. I opened up the slot and Yummy 2 dead cocroaches. I shock them out and decide to open up the system to give everything a good cleaning. Well 2 turned into 30. Thank god they were all dead. I had to just toss the system. The seller was mad that I didnt email him before leaving a neg. Im sorry but no appology or even a refund, would excuse him for sending me a frinking roach motel.

I know this makes me a bastard to some degree, but I had a friend that wanted me to bid on Star Fox Adventures (GCN) for him, and he won the auction for $25 shipped a few months ago. Everything was going as usual but then said friend up and decides to move away. This left me with $25 to pay for a game I didn't want (I was also unemployed at the time, making this damn near impossible). Luckily after several emails the seller understood, but even the seller was a prick to some degree. There I had explained my situation to him and I was going to suck it up and take my negative and npb warning like a man when he tries to get me to PAY for an item HE RELISTED AND SOLD. By the way, aforementioned friend is not a friend anymore    . He better not call me when he comes back in town...he can fuck off!
