It looks like Capcom is releasing a new 2-d fighter after alll. This time it will be the Guilty Gear characters vs. Team Capcom. Well, it's not DC vs. Capcom, but hell, I'll take any 2-d fighter these days! I think it is being jointly developed by the two companies.

That news almost caused me to defecate. I am a huge Guilty Gear fan, and Street Fighter is my all-time favorite fighter. Putting those two together is just perfect!
:rocker:
I do wonder how they will incorporate the One-hit kills that GG uses.

This can't be true.
Have the people at Capcom formally declared that they are completely incapable of coming up with original ideas or something? (And besides, didn't they just cancel Capcom Fighting All-Stars?)

When exactly did Capcom go from gaming pioneer to a joke? I would expect this type of cross promotional stunt from companies on their last legs (ie Marvel and SNK in past years). Oh well, I guess a money maker is a money maker. Hopefully this "Capcom vs..." game finally gets something right.
The real fighting game news IMO is that SNKP is moving the King of the Fighters series to Atomisware! Could we be seeing hi-res KoF action??? :o

They got it right plenty of times in the past. XvSF, MvSF, MvC, MvC2, CvS2, are all fantastic games. You can call them "button mashers" all you want, but that they aint.
What's the big deal with hi-res? SSF2x, SS3/4, and plenty of other fighters look better than GGxxxXXX Xx xxxXX24342124 or whatever it is now, IMO.

It was awhile ago that they said they were taking a break from 2D fighters. After the original release of CvS2 I believe. So it's about time for them to get back to their bread and butta
I would expect news about a new SF soon, considering it's the 15th anniversary.
I wonder if all SNK, Capcom, and Sammy arcade games (basically all 2D fighters) will be on atomiswave now? If so, another arcade system I'll have to get.

I'll concede Capcom vs SNK 2. Tthat I did like, although there was a certain intangible that was missing...a lack of cohesiveness....? As for the others, they were too crazed for my tastes.
And you're right, high res isnt the end all of graphics, SS3/4 are beautiful, but so is GG. But after a decade of great KoF action, a visual upgrade would be nice. And it would quiet all of the belly-aching about recycled sprites ;)

It gives me something to look forward to. But, my main concern may be the lack of switching. I know it's early here, but will they be able to switch characters (like in most vs. games?). I really like the switching feature. But, I am just guessing that if this game is going to be hi-res, will they have the capabilities to allow switching?
And, another thing, IF this is going to be hi-res, will Capcom have to re-draw the old sprites they've been using for years?
[Edit] MMCafe says that it will be on the AtomisWare hardware.

I was telling my friend about this yesterday, back when it was just a rumor, guess it wasn't after all.
Sammy hasn't really been around very long though, and quite frankly, the only cool GG characters are I-no and Faust. On the other hand, if they put Amagon in...
The vs series of games has thus far been lacking. The Marvel vs games have been notorious for being riddled with bugs and infinities, to the point that all of them up until marvel vs capcom 2 wasn't that good a game, and that doesn't mean they fixed anything-it just means it all cancelled each other out somehow in that one.
the CvS games, ah the cvs games. CvS1 is widely looked upon as the worst fighting game ever made, thanks to the wildly unbalanced Nakoruru and the fact that ratio 1 characters dominated everyone else. CvS2 is ok, but qutite frankly, the game is too defense-friendly. Sad when a glitch as crazy as Roll Cancels are the sole reason the game is considered playable.
Snk vs capcom, oh god, I liked this game. I really did. It had a neat engine, and some good ideas. But after finding out about the sheer levels of dominance from Geese and Zero, and then add their easy as hell to do infinites, and finally, the fact that Alpha Counters and the guard cancel dashes had a few ummm...problems (you get guard meter back for alpha counters! WTF?) the game is becoming pretty defensive too. I will say though that when they make a sequel, it should be good-SNK seems to like making the first game in every series kinda crummy.
So excuse me if I say, I have little thoughts for how good Sammy and capcom are gonna do. I'll be glad if it doesn't play like Guilty Gear, though-my complaint with that game is the amount of stuff you gotta keep track of. Bursts and Tension and Roman cancels and false roman cancels and 3 different kinds of blocking! 3!!! Now I don't mind some degree of complexity, but that's alot, even for me.
On the other hand, maybe we'll get to see SF3 sprites, with better animated GG guys, and Amagon. Give me Amagon you bastards!

True. I never saw the big deal with updating sprites that didn't need updating. But you're right this will shut up some of the bitching. Only thing is, the same people will bitch that it's on Atomiswave instead of MVS.
Should be interesting to see the Capcom characters redrawn, although the SF3 sprites are already amongst the most beautiful sprites ever.

I love the games, with or without new sprites. I just love making fun of Capcom. They are easily the king of recyclers.

The big question will be the style of the characters. I love that dark look in SVC Chaos. I can't wait to see what they do. Also, since there are some "strange" characters in Guilty Gear, maybe we can expect Capcom to use some of their more unique characters too. Agreed, SF3 is still beautiful to this day.

Though it may not involve a good deal of new content, I'm excited about the prospect of Sammy vs. Capcom, and I hope it won't draw just from Guilty Gear and Street Fighter. One can only imagine the disturbing undertones of a Bridget-Lilith battle.
Somehow, I'm not sure if tag-teams and hi-res visuals are mutually exclusive. Doesn't the newest Guilty Gear have both features?
And if they're including older Sammy characters, Quinn Hart from Vice: Project Doom should be a shoo-in.
Sammy hasn't really been around very long though, and quite frankly, the only cool GG characters are I-no and Faust. On the other hand, if they put Amagon in...
Eh? One should set aside the generous style and amusing quirks of the Guilty Gear cast for THIS?

A few words on the new KOF...
KOF 2k3 is coming out on the neo geo, apparently.
A new KOF is coming out on the Atomiswave hardware in March, at least partially developed by Sammy. I don't know if its gonna be a port of 2k3 or 2k4, or whatever. It's all good.
Most of the characters in GG have nothing on the sweetness of Amagon. Come on, he could turn into Megagon. It could be like old Fatal Fury's Tung fu rue! A redesign of him=awesome.

You've got to be kidding me. I think this is a HORRIBLE idea... Sammy just doesn't have the backlog of memorable characters required for a crossover game like this to work. You've got the cast of Guilty Gear X, and, uh, that's it. Plus, the Street Fighter and Guilty Gear series have entirely different control schemes... they'll have to make great compromises to both styles to come up with an acceptable hybrid, if they don't throw one of the control schemes out completely.
All I can say is this... Capcom, have you gotten THIS desperate to keep the Street Fighter series alive? What's next, Capcom vs. T*HQ?

The sad thing is, Amagon wasn't even Sammy's game originally. I believe the Japanese version was created by Vic Tokai, which makes sense because it really looks like one of their games.

Yes, but Capcom might make Amagon's ducking forward two-in-one into a dashing unblockable super, thus making the game ever-so-slightly unbalanced and earning it your dislike.
Sorry, but the only part of Amagon worth preserving would be the final boss, a facsimile of the Flatwoods Monster.

Man, what's with all this haterade.
Unbalanced fighters are fun. Balanced ones usually aren't (unless its VF). Wildly unbalanced fighters are not fun.
My problems with SvC stem from the fact that Zero and Geese can both not only render Guard cancel dash and CD counters useless, but to top that off, have infinities that are easy as hell to do. Geese's is Close C, forward+D, dash, Close C, f+D, dash, etc. and Zero's is anti air-just do his dp as soon as you get into the air, using a tiger knee-style motion. thats it. You do those, you won the round. It' stupid. GC dash is a good idea, but its execution was dumb-not only does it take barely any meter, but it functions as a parry, but with no risk involved, since you do it from a blocking position. In Japan, where they play the crap out of the game, it's devolved into both guys turtling, to counter whatever the other guy does. It's dumb.
CvS2 is just boring. I played it for damn near a year and a half, extensively, and it's not a fun fighter, especially in comparison to SFA3, 3rd Strike, or KOF 2k2, none of which, should i point out, are balanced fighters. CvS1 is genuinely agreed by fighting game players to be a bad game, and I stated most of the reasons why that's thought. Nako is a major reason-her only counter characters either involve 4 ratio ones who can slowly wear her down, or a character with super meter. After she came out, play for the game dropped off and died.
Note my favorite fighter of all time is fatal Fury Special, and that is full of stupid crap. one button redizzy combos from Duck King and Joe Higashi, Kim's aerial unblockable super, Jubei's corner trap with the cookie and piledriver, line switching, free alpha counters, etc. but I still love it, because its not boring, and genuinely fun.
Millia Rage though? Cooler then Shiki? I could halfway understand Baiken or I-no, but Shiki is in a class of sweet beyond the woman with the crazy hair ;)

Disagree. Even ridiculously weighted fighters are still fun to screw around with, provided they've got some style and a unique idea or two. They might not hold up to any sort of dedicated competition whatsoever, but that hardly robs them of enjoyment. Even if "fringe" fighters aren't the sort of thing you can build a tournament around, there's something to be said for just goofing off with a couple of friends and an accessible, loosely structured fighting game.

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri rock.
Seriously (or not), I've had fun with CvS and CvS2, and though some of your gripes are well-founded (especially the ones about Nakoruru), I was never too concerned with how well either game held up under intense competitive play. If I was the kind of guy who drove miles to attend tournaments and face other players for prizes, I might have more concern for a game's inner workings, but I'm not one for that venue. If I can learn a fighter’s special moves, hold my own against opponents of moderate skill, and enjoy myself all the while, I don't need to master the game.
Capcom vs. Rocky and Bullwinkle. I'd buy that. Really.

Oh, I like to goof off in less then competitive fighters, like Matrimelee, Smash Bros, Powerstone. But when the people you tend to play in games are rather, shall we say, competitive arcade-goers, they'll find some good stuff, and abuse it to hell, like in svc.
I had fun with the cvs games for the first couple months, after that though, they pretty much became "going through the motions". It's not to say I never had fun with them after that point, but I had alot more fun playing damn near everything else.
I will tell you once you get into the competitive mindset it's hard to look at a fighter the other way.
