Here's my dilemna: I have two (2) copies of Atari 2600 Donkey Kong. One is from Coleco and one is the red-label Atari release.

For purposes of classifying my collection, are these two carts unique titles or are they duplicates?

The quick answer would be "It's just a label variation". But I feel that the question is complicated by the fact that these titles were released by two different companies: Coleco and Atari. Even if the source code is exactly the same in both games, it seems that there is some case to be made for the titles being unique. And although my carts are loose, one could also make a case for these titles being unique on the basis of different boxes, instructions and marketing materials, hm?

So, since I can't figure this out , I will defer to the judgment of the board members. Thanks.

They're the same game. Several of the originally produced Coleco Atari 2600 titles were picked up by Atari later including Donkey Kong, Mouse Trap, and Venture.

The way I see it, if a game is the same but released by 2 different companies, you should have both to complete your collection. So, it is both a Label variation and a unique game (in each companies' collections).
