I just received a Game Gear 12-in-1 that I bought from Australia via eBay. When I put the cart in, I only get three of the 12 games listed on the label. I've tried every button and direction but can't get anything else. Does anyone else have one of these? And if so, is there some trick or is there a problem with the cartridge?

Is there a switch on the cart?

Perhaps turning it on and off switches banks?

Is it one of the ones that has 12 Master System games on it? those are cool!

You might want to try turning off, then on the system quickly, or Maybe a "soft reset" (press ALL buttons at once)

The cartridge is glued shut; there is no screw. There's no switch, either. If I push button 1 or 2 the selected game starts, and the start button is non-functional. I've tried the soft reset, but it again just starts the selected game. Here's a link to the eBay auction:

The last three listed games are the ones I can get to, and they're numbered 1, 2, 3. Quickly switching the power off and on does nothing. I've emailed the seller to see what's up.

THose are actually SMS games....hmmm....I wonder...

Well, I bet the Omar Cornut at smspower.org would know what's up. He knows ALL technical things SMS and GG

Oh yeah, try holding different buttons when turning it on.

Well, I just got an email from the seller. He said that to switch the game list, you just power off then on. Unfortunately, this cartridge is bad. I get the menu for the first three, then the next three times I power down/up I get a blue screen. The same menu comes up on the fourth try every time. It was sold as-is so I got a 3-in-1 cart.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Do you have an original Game Gear or one of the Majesco rereleases? The Majesco version isn't compatible with the TV tuner if I remember right. It could be that there's more stuff that isn't compatible, like your 12 in 1.

That's true, Hitman.

The GG uses one pin on the cartidge interface to determine whether it is in TV mode or not. It also uses one pin to determine if it is in SMS mode or GG mode ( since the GG can play SMS games...it basically is an SMS with more colors).

Perhaps, like the TV pin being non-functional, the SMS pin may be disabled/different/something?

Maybe I'm on crack.

I have a collection of images/info/ROMs of pirate games I am putting up on my site Epic Gaming, and I need submissions; the SMS/GG pirates section is extremely tiny thus far. Is there a chance you could open up that cartridge (you said it was glued shut?) and take a photo of the guts? I've already got the images from the auction. If not, thatr's cool too. I've not seen such a cheaply made multicart before, so this would be an interesting thing to have full photos of.

I'll give you credit on the site and link back to any of yours you might have, if you help me out. :) My e-mail address is epicenter713@linuxmail.org, and I'm Epicenter713 on AIM.
Thx. :D

I have two Game Gears; one Sega, one Majesco and it does the same thing on both.

Actually, it was just glued in two spots and I was able to get the top right off. I'll get a picture of it to you in the next few days. It's very plain inside; none of the chips are labeled. There's one orange jumper wire running between two of the chips.
