I recently found an SMS w/ all hookups at a garage sale. When I plug it in and hook it up though, nothing happens. I've tried everything from using a different ac adapter to using a different electrical outlet. Is there anything I may have overlooked, or should I just toss it? Any help would be appreciated.

Egads! Don't toss it.

If you don't have the proper power supply for it, substitute a Genesis 1 (9V @ 1.2A) power supply, a TG16, or Jaguar supply.

Does the power LED come on at all?

no power led at all. Im 100% sure it's not the ac adapter because I have two other working SMS's, each with their own 'official' adaptor. I've tried every adaptor on every system. They all work fine on the working systems but not on the dead one. The problem is inside the machine somewhere. I even jiggled the end of the ac adaptor cord around incase it was a loose fit with the SMS, but no luck. Anything else I could try?

The next logical step is to check continuity at the power switch & power jack, and check that the voltage regulators are operating.

Yeah, you never know, it could be as simple as a little bit of cracked solder, or as complex as a dead CPU. It certainly can't hurt to open it up and look for a problem.
I had a SMS recently I thought had a video problem, but it turned out the damn thing was set for Channel 4 LOL Don't I feel stupid.

How do I check the continuity and the voltage regulaters? Is it simple or do I need electrician tools?

a cheap digital multimeter is really some everyone should have in your box of hardware for the house, well you don't really need digital, but for that $10 more, get one. You don't need no killer Fluke just a radioshack special.

$19.99 at the shack.

there is no rocket science to it.

Where on the SMS do I attach it once I've got that voltage reader thing?
