all this talk of online gaming got me thinking (again) about a little ps2 game i saw/played @ E3: bandai's cool .hack (dot hack, to the "huh?' folks out there)- a simulated mmoprg that's different for everyone who plays it. in a way, this could be the sleeper rpg of the last few years. think about it: a simulated online game where you don't have to pay to play, download patches, or worry about a server being too busy. there are supposed to be 4 parts total, and knowing bandai of america, the game is probably going to get a small production run here. even if the plot is linear (30 or so hours i think, if you just rush through it), the fact that the game randomly generates it's areas depending on what series of words you input makes for an intriguing concept...

i played about 20 minutes of ff 11 at the show, and came away just a bit too underwhelmed. mostly because the game hadn't been localized (so navigating all the menus in japanese was a pain), and the gameplay wasn't all that exciting. plus, once you get all the juicy details on installing and running the game, it makes it more of a hassle for a good portion of potential users... again, we shall see...
