Haven't seen this one on ebay for well over a year now. If it wasn't loose I'd give it a go.

haha.. I just posted about this on the main board, didn't notice you had already done it here :D

I will be watching with interest. The actual value of this thing is pretty indeterminate, and I've not seen a loose one on sale before, so we'll see what happens. I fully expect it to go for an obscene amount of money though...

Well, well ... Joe and Arr have both bid. Anyone else want to have a pop? ;) Just think, you could tell your children "I bid in the famous Darxide auction of September 2003"

If I had any money at all, I would probably place a bid. Not a big enough bid to win - but, y'know, just on the off chance ...

What's the story behind this game and what catagory of the DP rarity guides would this game be under? I couldn't find it under Genesis, Megadrive or 32x games.

The story is slightly complex. It was the last game ever to be released for the 32X, hence the rarity. Not only that, but it was only released in Europe - the US release being canned as the system was obviously dying a death.

Adding to the attractiveness of the game, it was produced by Frontier Developments, a company formed and run by the legendary David Braben (co-creator of the classic game Elite). Apparently he was given the impression by Sega that the game was to be a key part of their launch of the "Neptune" project, basically a 32X and Megadrive in one unit. The Neptune project was swiftly canned, but he was not told, and thus the game was virtually guaranteed to be a dead loss before it hit the shelves. Frontier Developments have, unsuprisingly, been absent from the console market ever since this unfortunate escapade.

I don't know if anyone even knows the production figures for the game, but they are bound to be pretty low. The game will only work on a European 32X, but that does not seem to prevent it from being as avidly sought after by US collectors as it is by Europeans. It is as rare as hen's teeth these days, with pretty much all the floating copies having already been snapped up.

I have only ever seen it on Ebay twice ... both those times were several years ago now, and both went for around $400 (although they were complete, unlike this one). Never seen one anywhere else, don't know anyone who has (although I think a couple of people on the boards here have a copy).

This is in the 32X listing but it's an "import" so you have to jump all the way to page 2 to find it!

I'm clearly talking out of my ass on the values of this (and the other 2 non-US 32X titles) however, so this auction at least helps determine what someone has paid.

I have a liitle sweepstake going with some friends as to the final value of this auction. My bet is on $180. Looks like I might not be winning this bet, but I am fully expecting there to be a flurry of last minute bids, so who knows ...

Like I said, the value of a complete copy is certainly around $400 minimum ... I considered bidding when it was still around £50 ($75) but it's obviously going to be way more than my budget now.

Fifa 32X is not worth $40 either :) I have sold a few copies on ebay.com, and they generally went for around $25 - $30 (complete). However in Europe you can usually pick it up for around £3 - £5 max ($5 - $8). Hence why I passed all my copies on! That and I am not a particular fan of soccer games anyway.
