View Full Version : Nordic-Trak Genesis/SNES controller?!?!?

Alright, today I just came across the craziest video game controller I have ever seen. I think this even beats out the Rock 'N Roller as the dumbest controller gimmick of all time.

On the shelf at Goodwill, I saw this controller that you could hook up to your Nordic-Trak exercise machine to play Genesis and SNES games with. All it was was 2 grips with buttons on them that you'd put on the Nordic-Trak handles. 2 black cords connected them to a small terminal that was to be placed on center of the Nordic-Trak control panel. Out of this terminal went a cord that you would then connect to the Sega or SNES.

From what I read in the instruction manual and on the box, the controller did NOTHING to utilize the skiing action of the Nordic-Trak (unlike the cycling of the CompuTranier for the NES). All it did was let you play video games while you exercised. It was only $6, but I passed on it I could never use the stupid thing since I don't own a Nordic-Trak and probably wouldn't use it even if I did own one. Very strange and very pointless.

I've never seen THAT before.

Now you realize I'm going to have to ask you to go back and pick one up for me, right?

Seriously.

PM sent.

Thats exactly what I was going to say.

If Joe doesn't want it ( yeah right  ) I would like to have it.

I'll even compensate you for your time.

I bought it. I talked to norkusa and found out where right away. Even as a noob, I figured it had to be rare as I couldn't find it in DP 7.

The box isn't in pristine shape. However, with a cursory look it all appears to be there. It includes the Owner's Guide and even has 2 receipts. It was purchased 10/27/95 and it also has the revolving credit slip where this guy made payments on the Nordic Track.

@DP, Pm me when you have a sec. I'd be happy to give this up for the cause.

I've got one of those things too. You're supposed to hook it up to your Nordic Tracks computer, and the faster you ski, the faster you go. ( say in a racing game or something )

I actually have a nordic track too, but have not tried it yet.

Any suggestions on games to try?

Dude that rocks... I'd kill for something you could use from a treadmill without falling on your face.

You would have to have INSANE coordination to be able to effectively play a game and to effectlively Nordic Track at the same time.

Moving your arms, legs to one thing, and then your thumbs to something completely different?

Not for me X_x

Yes, I couldn't imagine trying to work the arms and controlling a game at the same time.
You would maybe have to lean against
the rest and just work the legs to play.

@CueWarrior... (by your receipts), what was the original price on this item,
and the Nordic Track too if you can tell.

I bought both my NordicQuest and NordicTrack at goodwill actually,
not on the same day or even at the same store, but
I paid 15 bucks for the quest and 25 for the track.

I think the most interesting thing is the technology. For one thing,
it can be hooked straight up to a Genesis OR a SNES (no adapters or anything).
Andi it must play on a rapid pause setting??? Who knows?

I might have to take it apart and post more pictures.
