In a thread ("new Zelda bonus disc") a debate came up how flawed the PS2 hardware is compared to the GC and Xbox. Is it actually true, or a rumor spread by game mags, retailers, and gamers?
Participate in the other polls for Xbox and PS2 if you own more than one of the current systems.

A good friend of mine had his gamecube fall off of a 5 foot ledge onto a cement floor.......
It didn't even turn off.
Nintendo builds things to last, straight up. I still have a working gameboy game thats i found in the snow. :o

Bought my Cube late in 2002, and have had no problems so far. *crossing fingers* But I've accidentally knocked the thing around a couple of times -- with no noticeable effects. And the controllers (both Wavebird and standard) are holding up well, without the disintegrating-stick phenomenon that plagued the N64.
Then again, my brother's PS2 (purchased early in 2001) has also been trouble-free so far. I think a lot of the supposed quality issues stem from people taking poor care of their stuff, actually, and not from any particular manufacturing defect (except in the case of the very earliest models).
Don't know about the Xbox (since I don't have one -- yet), but everything I've heard suggests that any early teething problems are now long gone. Then again, it is built by Microsoft, so who's to say the whole thing won't simply explode in a couple of years?

Not a single problem here, and I've only seen ONE GCN returned to our store-and that was a few days ago. Nintendo builds quality products. Remember the stories about how folks dropped their GB's in the toilet? LOL

Ah, my baby. Not so much as a cough or sniffle in its lifetime here.

I've had mine for a good while, and I've NEVER had a problem with it. And that's after tripping over the cords, not once, but twice, and sending the thing bouncing across the linoleum kitchen floor from the living room! They're AMAZINGLY built!

After Seeing PS2's fault after launch, Nintendo has stuck tried and true with their superior hardware production.
Anyone remember the article in Nintendo Power years ago about the guy who brought the ORIGINAL Game Boy with him to Desert Storm, and it melted, and still played fine?
Incredible.

Nah....not one prob so far with any of nintendos hardware
I've a NES which was drowned in cola and kicked(a real hard kick,so it smashed against wall) after losing boss-fights several times.....and IT STILL works perfectly
build to resist the anger of lousy gamers :D

I bought mine the day it came out but it was a Christmas present so I had to wait until then to play it X_x X_x .
The only trouble I've had is with a third party wireless controller. when I let go of the stick and it self centers, it always overcorrects on the screen. I was wandering if the Wavebird does this?
Other than that, I've had zero problems with it, no freezes, no lockups, and the best thing, it's quiet :D

99.9999% of the time. third party controllers (and memory cards)suck. NEVER buy a third party controller or memory card. Ever.
BTW--the Wavebird works perfectly. I suggest you dump that P.O.S. third party controller and buy a Wavebird today.

My GC lasted about 4 hours. Had to get it replaced.
First problem ever with Nintendo hardware.

That same game boy is still on display at Nintnedo's repair center downstairs from the call center in Redmond. It still turns on, every day.

Bought my GC on release and only now, almost 2 years later, has it shown any problems. It will occasionally stop reading the disc mid game and display an error on screen.
In all fairness, I take my GC to the beach with me when we go so its had a fair share of being bumped around in the last two years.
I'll be paying to have it fixed, thats how much I like my GC. 8-)

No problems here. I have had NES, N64, Gameboys and Cubes all if which have preformed flawlessly. My only issue was with the controller for my cube the B button jammed recently and would not work. My other controller was teethed on by my two year old unbeknownst to me. Despite his best efforts there was no damage other than to replace the plastic top for the joystick. We should all feel free to chew on your controller is my lesson for the day.

Thanks guys for participating so nicely! The more participate, the better. Really interesting results so far.
Very interesting reads about the specific probs or no probs. These are really nice indicators of potential problems, weaknesses and strenghts of hardware.
I love my GC, too. It's a lil' powerhouse, right on par with the XBox when it comes to smoothing out edges (my impression), and I have the feeling theta's tthe most reliable hardware. I also love the fact that N didn't use a tray so the disc doesn't come in contact with a surface, and the release button was a very nice addition too.
In short, I love my lil' baby, but I also like the uniqueness of its big balck brother, the XBox; but from a hardware standpoint, I prefer definitely the GC.
