Anyone else got this? I've got the Saturn version and still after all this time, I can't decide if I like it or not.

I love the art and animation (same team went on to do the Metal Slug series) and being in a sub is a nice change from the space shooter theme. But the game is so slow. Not just slowdown, which there's lots of, but just slow period. Perhaps that's because you're in a sub. :)

Anyway, just wondering how the PSX or MAME play compairs (my computer isn't quite up to snuff for emulating a game so new.) Is it just the Saturn port that is flawed? Love this game? Hate it? Know what I'm talking about?

I don't know if the Arcade/MAME version is slow, but the PSX version isn't all that good. There are so many missing frames, it's almost unplayable. Think Donapachi for PSX.

The Saturn version isn't missing frames, it just chugs a lot. Shame, it's a pretty cool little game otherwise.

In the Hunt runs fine on MAME. I owned the Playstation version, and the consoles just don't perform like the coin-op.

It's a great game in my opinion. It's about time somebody made a submarine shooter. Torpedoes, depth charges, contact mines, sonar buoys, and other sub related weapons are on the game, and I find them all to be quite cool. Yeah, the game is slow, but the fastest submarines can only do about 43 knots (47 mph), which isn't anything compared to the 1,000 mph speed that some jets are pulling off in SHMUPS. If I ever saw a game where a sub was going 800 knots under the ocean, that would be a serious stretch. ;) Overall, I like the game and the concept. Two thumbs up.

Cool game, but I have a lot of trouble with it. It's kinda hard to pick up. I think I only got as far as the 3rd level in the SS version, and I haven't yet finished the 1st level in MAME.

I had a problem with the MAME version for a while there; I couldn't get a game to start no matter what. I could put coins in but it wouldn't start. It wouldn't even start if I remapped the start button. Then one day I tried 2 player start, it worked, and now I can play one player. Weird.

No noticeable difference for me. It's a slow game because of the underwater thing, not the SS. I've never played the PSX version.

You can probably imagine the dirty name I call this game when I get pissed off at it.

Me too...:)

It's weird, I can run all these recent Cave shmups at full speed on Mame, but older games give me fits! I can't even play Truxton, it's so damn choppy!

I agree, I love the sub shooting theme. And I always figured it was slow due to it being in a sub. I just wasn't sure how much was slowdown on my machine vs. the actual speed of the game.

I just unsealed a copy of the game and threw it into my Saturn. I don't see any slowdown--it just seems like the game is not meant to play like you're in the red plane from Giga Wing. But then, I only shot my way to level two before the Saturn told me that I had run out of quarters. Are there slow patches later on?

Maybe I'll get further when I flip my TV back to its normal orientation (I've been using Galactic Attack's arcade screen mode).

Also, it seems like people talk about "slowdown" when there are spots where the game starts to chug, rather than the whole experience being like maneuvering a molasses cruiser. Are there games where the WHOLE THING is much slower than it should be?
