unreleased protos-have you played/owned any? tell experience

I've lately become quite fixated with proto games (not that I have any), and moreover unreleased but fully playable or almost finished games. The idea that people have these one offs is amazing to me.
Particularly Neo Geo and arcade ones.
Has anyone ever played said games or owns any? how good are they and how did you come by them?
And finally (though highly improbable) has anyone got/played Neo Geo proto games?
